@Shaun My point about the context is that it is mostly irrelevant. The comment you had in CURED was "show prior research", but your context doesn't show this. It just says "I know some stuff", but it doesn't say you have tried to research the problem itself. You need to focus more on the question, rather than on what you yourself know. It is good to say "I've read book X and Y", but listing a whole bunch of questions, as well as a book you couldn't find but wanted to, is just noise.

I think the main thing missing from the question is the arguments you were presented with in the private conversation. Presenting some arguments shows prior research, and without these the question is very weak. It is a "guess what I'm thinking" kind of question.

@amWhy No problem - maybe let's not weaponise room ownership though? (Actually, I wish this chat room was populated by more people who simply tried, regardless of this opinions. I think offering help is important, and once we have a solid way of providing help to new users then we can get into the nitty-gritty of deciding what kind of help is good help...)

(Of course, it would also help if more people asked for help...)
