I have been told that this is the appropriate place to ask about the source of downvotes on a question, without flooding the meta with such questions. (1 of 2)

I must say that it drives me insane how hard it is to ask a question on math S.E. I spent all the time between 15:10 and 18:49 writing up the question. Only 5 minutes was on the answer itself, and the rest was me trying to comply with the site rules.

According to my last post, it is now 20:59. This is the amount of time a single, 5 minute question can waste, and the result is still a negative score.

I honestly do not know what more I could have done. Should I have written in bold letters that it is a self answer question and does not need an attempt? Should I leave a comment explaining th

@user400188 I suspect the reason for the downvotes is simply that this is a self-answered question (although noone commented so I can't say for sure). Self-answered questions are surprisingly controversial (see meta for more details).
