@FaheemMitha I haven't used it in 25 years or so, but what I remember is that even then it gave me an old, outdated, feeling. Maybe I did something wrong, but I was never able to draw anything accurate in it. The question from yesterday indicates to me that this has not changed. (But it might be yet another user like me...).
@PauloCereda I got an index out of bounds for texdoc.org/pkg/xfig
06:13
@Skillmon oopsie, thanks for the report, we will investigate (@TeXnician)
@Skillmon the error seems to match the results, as searching for xfig the typical way in texdoc.org gives me no hits. Although testing with my local install, I get three results...
@PauloCereda it's not contained in TeXLive, so the server doesn't find the resource, but when using the legacy API the server tries to provide the file, instead of showing an appropriate 404 or similar
@Skillmon good idea
06:52
@mickep I see. I don't think I have used it myself. And if I have, I don't remember.

This project could do with the extraordinary drawing skills of @DavidCarlisle : fosstodon.org/@[email protected]/110697016863505775
@samcarter I could use xfig
@DavidCarlisle Oh, advancing with your tools.
@mickep see:

@DavidCarlisle indeed a masterpiece
09:05
Speaking of TUG'23, I might have a Unicode question or two for e.g. @barbarabeeton
I seem to have got sucked into some work-related TeX stuff ...
@CarLaTeX Choo choo choo
Prof. van Duck and I are arriving, too
@CarLaTeX Yeah!
09:51
@JosephWright TeXing on work time. Luxury. 😉

I'm leaving in about 10 hours, please wish me a safe drive, it's ~700km
@yo' Take care
@mickep Not so much TeX, more 'in the same area'
@yo' Drive safely! You are lucky you are going from east to west. In the opposite direction, the A3 motorway is currently completely closed due to an accident. www-nordbayern-de.translate.goog/region/erlangen/…
(your direction should work)
@yo' Take breaks...

@samcarter I have at least two routes to choose from fortunately, with D5-A6-A3 being the standard, but D8-A17-A4-A5-B49-A3 being the most straightforward alternate.
@JosephWright thanks!
@mickep I will! Plan to drive overnight to close to Bonn and then take a nap in the car in the morning. I did a similar thing for Darmstadt too...
@yo' good plan

@yo' -- We wish you a safe drive. So drive safely. Someday, when you're bored, you can ask me about my drive from Providence, Rhode Island, to China Lake, California, in a 45-horsepower, 2-cycle Saab. It took 3 days and 10 hours. Solo. (I was younger and more sturdily built in those days, and there was less traffic.)
@barbarabeeton you flew via Frankfurt?
@DavidCarlisle yes they came via Frankfurt
@DavidCarlisle -- Yes, we flew into Frankfurt, and proceeded by train to Siegburg/Bonn. The posting for the trains is somewhat sketchy on the platform -- Siegburg/Bonn isn't mentioned anywhere on the main printed schedule, but the people wearing bright red vests and carrying a small electronic device are very helpful. One of them was even able to tell us at which spot the car we were booked on would stop, so we wouldn't have to run.
15:03
I guess I'll be following you tomorrow, early flight out of London:-)
15:25
@barbarabeeton Carla is now there too.

@UlrikeFischer Wow! The professor got his own nametag?
@samcarter sure, Bär too, (but the wind is blowing)
@UlrikeFischer The organisers of this meeting seem to be doing a really good job :)
15:46
Deservedly so! Bär has his own, and Bunny has hers. They will all meet one another at the reception tomorrow.
@samcarter -- +1, many times over.
@barbarabeeton I can't wait to finally get there!
@samcarter -- We anticipate your presence.
16:14
@yo' what about your slides? did you upload them?

so, for entertainment :-)

Thinking of patching the titlepage to include this: \ifIhaveReadTheDocumentation\else\includepdf[pages=1-]{msu-thesis.pdf}\fi Last page of the documentation would tell you to add \Ihavereadthedocumentationtrue. :)

Oh, had one dodo meeting today, missed another one...

2 hours later…
21:07
More than a full day for me until I arrive :(
@JosephWright ooh no, have you been infected by Word?
No drunk or conspicuous people here except me, in the Motel One lounge, good
@StefanKottwitz so, are you drunk or conspicuous?
both and double
sorry I had two airport lounges on my way
@StefanKottwitz it's fine, I had football training this evening, and considering I'm not playing in a high league you can guess whether I'm sober or not :P
ok I'm not drunk I was more focused on eating and being conspicuous :-)
21:15
@StefanKottwitz well, I'm not drunk, just not sober... and I seem to have misunderstood "both and double" here.
ooh you understood fine, I was confirming both but for really being drunk it's too expensive here
excellent that you do football training! I noticed that I got quite rusty during long time home office... trying oculus/meta quest FitXR etc. to not fade away
@StefanKottwitz my legs gonna hate me for it by tomorrow :)
@Skillmon ???
@JosephWright not so much TeX, but in the same area.... My mind just build the worst possible scenario: Word
21:33
@Skillmon not sure about the muscles but Voltaren for the joints :-)
I just came across some brilliant repository: github.com/plante3/2048tex
(the author has two other interesting looking public repositories as well)
@Skillmon Oh, an animated README.md! as ok I see that's a GIF but what does as GIF do in a .md
@StefanKottwitz not only that, the coloured graphical output works really well in my terminal
@StefanKottwitz you can link it there, it shows the output, and it looks really great in my terminal!
@Skillmon In the terminal? What do you run, Lynx?
@StefanKottwitz nope, pdfTeX
@StefanKottwitz (not the GIF, I cloned the repository and put trust in a complete stranger, and actually run his main.tex)
21:41
@Skillmon Oh, that's so third millennium style
@StefanKottwitz I'm playing 2048 now since a couple of minutes
ah, the 1024 successor; how about 4096 :-)
21:57
@StefanKottwitz you might add a feature request :P
@Skillmon I decided to add a star :-)
