Q: TUG Representatives for 2018

Joseph WrightAs a community we have institutional membership of TUG paid for by StackOverflow. (Thanks to StackOverflow for this support and to Stefan Kottwitz for the initial idea!) The membership entitles us to nominate eight people to benefit directly from this, receiving copies of TUGBoat and so on. As in...

@JosephWright Did you see @CarLaTeX's message above? I think she wants to step aside.

@PauloCereda Yes, but the point of a public vote is it's a community decision

Sorry.
@JosephWright Ah got it

@PauloCereda Ultimately, if @CarLaTeX really wants to withdraw, that's her call of course

8:56 AM
@JosephWright ack

@cfr: Regarding Heiko's comments in tex.stackexchange.com/questions/414596/…, I wanted to make a joke about the existence of a potentially infinite number of epsilons in the OP's code, as in formal language theory epsilon denotes the empty string, but I think it's too nerd. :)

@JosephWright Yes, if it's possible, I would like to withdraw because Rmano was not in the list, last year!

@CarLaTeX I've adjusted

@PauloCereda, @CarLaTeX Ciao!!!
@egreg Good morning from Sicily. Here now the weather is better than last hour. I hope you are fine.

@Sebastiano Fine thanks! We have a sunny cold winter day.

Q: mtpro2 and mathdesign: to adapt integral sign at two (or more) different fractions

SebastianoLooking the picture below it is possible to observe the same lenght of the the size of two signs of the integral. For the first integral (red box), the size is correct. But for the second integral (violet box) the size is very small for the integrand. I have adjusted myself the lenght of the ...

@egreg When you have some free time, could you give a view to my question? Now I have my students on break and I'm not home. With Papeeria mt2pro it is not available. Thank you so much and lots of greetings. Good carnival.

@cfr it will display the characters when/if you have a locally installed font that has them.

@PauloCereda :-) Would have lost me.

I'm going to really know a lot about pgf soon ...
@PauloCereda I get a feeling I know what I'm talking about at TUG2018 ...

5:16 PM
@CarLaTeX The marmot seems to be happy. Looks like (s)he got good food (no pineapple on the pizza ;-)

@marmot Of course, being in Italy! :):):)

5:30 PM
What is the luatex equivalent of \mathcode‘\,="8000? I even tried \Umathcodenum‘\,=\the\Umathcodenum‘\', and it doesn't seem to work. (I cheated a little here to deal with markdown syntax; the backticks aren't really backticks.)

@HaraldHanche-Olsen \mathcode`\,="8000

\mathcode`,="8000

\begingroup\catcode`,=\active\gdef ,{A}\endgroup

$,(,)$

\bye
@HaraldHanche-Olsen ^^^

@egreg I could have sworn I tried that, and it didn't work. I'll try again. BTW, how do you get a real backtick in code in markdown?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen use \`

@HaraldHanche-Olsen It depends on the context; here it's a pain: `

5:36 PM
@DavidCarlisle Really? Let me try: foo`bar. I'll be damned! I tried that on the main site, and it wouldn't work.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen A single backquote is backquote backslash backquote backquote; for embedding one in code, use double backquotes around the code \mathcode`,="8000

@egreg double quoting the markdown for a bcaktick is even harder tan
@egreg or you can use a backslash with single backquotes `\a is backquote backslash backquote backslash a backquote
@HaraldHanche-Olsen yes th erules are different on the main site

@egreg Well, now it works. All traces of my failed attempts are gone, of course, so I have no idea where I screwed up.
I found the related documentation in luatex.pdf incredibly lacking, until I noticed something about XeTeX compatibility and looked it up in the XeTeX manual. Oh well.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Welcome to @DavidCarlisle and my world!
On the other hand, pgf does have a good manual

@JosephWright so by next year when @HaraldHanche-Olsen is stuck on l3draw, he can look up pgf compatibility and find the answer there:-)

@marmot Dinner time!

8:56 PM
@egreg It's a bit early, but please make sure not to kill the pizza by adding pineapples.

@marmot Don't worry, we use pineapple only for fruit salad.

@egreg Ohh. No Pina Colada?

9:11 PM
@egreg nice formatting commands in that mla13 thing

@marmot Only grappa and prosecco where @egreg lives

@DavidCarlisle It's a thing of beauty, both code and output.

@AlanMunn it should have \RequirePackage{typewriter}

9:26 PM
@DavidCarlisle \usepackage{doublespacingfetish}

@DavidCarlisle It goes straight in the gallery of horrors.
@DavidCarlisle The quality would improve

@egreg @DavidCarlisle There should be a global option [american-university] which automatically implements these kinds of changes to any document.

@CarLaTeX Makes sense. Also not bad. BTW, do you know if there is an upper bound on the length of functions in \tikzset{declare function=....} ?

@marmot I don't know, sorry

9:56 PM
@egreg lovely
@egreg I cut down on the grey level variability in the version on github in comparison with the original tex.sx answer, it's probably more realistic but makes it less obviously silly and variable. I suppose I should add some configuration options to tweak those things

@DavidCarlisle By the way, the code for \hrule doesn't seem to catch everything; I get a spurious height0pt at the bottom.
Maybe it's fancyhdr's fault.

10:12 PM
@egreg I started to use the token library scanners but then thought I couldn't really do a lot sensible with the values, so I gave up, I suppose I should check. At least the width ought to be usable.
@egreg OK I see the height feature, maybe there'll be a later release without that...
:42793747 one more comment from you and I'll give @eg9 write access to that git repo:-)

@DavidCarlisle I could remove something from the manual. ;-)

@egreg would you know how?

@DavidCarlisle I could learn Git lingo.

@UlrikeFischer all part of Joseph's secret plan to move everyone on to expl3
@egreg I just scan in the order height depth width but the footrule uses \hrule width .. height...

@UlrikeFischer Technically I think a dupe of the older bug ;)
@UlrikeFischer Fundamental issue here is that the original code is clearly written for a non-empty single-token list separator

@UlrikeFischer I guess I'll need to provide two paths: one for 'well-behaved' lists and one for 'naughty' ones
@DavidCarlisle I think I've made it clear in the older issue that in a sense that entire business worries me: I really don't want to give that impression, hence being wary of changes

11:20 PM
@JosephWright meanwhile I worry about changes in hyperref and amsmath, how did we inherit these things? :-)
@egreg fixed on github

11:46 PM
@percusse Isn't him the Fermat bloke?
Someone save me from the carnaval. :(

@PauloCereda yes

@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PauloCereda you could stay at home and work on your thesis

@DavidCarlisle That's exactly what I am doing. Sadly, the stage is just about 100 metres from my window... :(

@PauloCereda you could go out dance the night away and perhaps your thesis will be finished in the morning?

11:49 PM
@PauloCereda Three more days and it will be over. Then Memento, homo, quia pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris

@egreg I will be literally ashes by the end of the third day. :)
@DavidCarlisle Nah. :)
@DavidCarlisle: I am past the TOC!

@PauloCereda given that the toc is very small, that isn't much of an achievment

@DavidCarlisle oi

@DavidCarlisle You can easily make a large TOC, the problem is filling chapters and sections.
