@AlexAngas Looks nice!
@AndersRask Usually I merge users and keep the one they are using most recently.
@AlexAngas Yeah I was trying to think of ways we could improve those...
Maybe leave a space for specifics...

@KitMenke I usually try to think "if I was a new user to the site and received this comment, would I take it the right way?"

Yeah exactly, that's why I liked the "Welcome" part..

So far I haven't really had any negative responses, just usually no response at all. You?

Yeah, usually no response. Maybe they should be more informal? Sometimes I try to include details or examples relevant to their question/answer.
Also, I'm not sure if people use the notifications... (for when I use "Answer used to comment" and then convert)

If neither of us are getting aggro comments then the wording is probably OK
But yeah if we can make them relevant that's good
I sometimes try and do that
Thing is that it takes time

12:28 AM
Hehe yea, no anger is good.
Are we going to have elections after the site is launched you think?

I think that's the procedure
Are you going to run? (if you want to say at this stage)

I'm not sure... at this point I'm not sure if I'll still be doing SharePoint.
I sorta feel like that disqualifies me.

Hmmm well it makes it hard to edit questions if you don't know exactly what they're about
I hope you are able to continue. I think between us we make a good team, although I'm sure we have some great users that would be able to step up too

Yeah exactly. Though I know a lot of moderation is grunt work.
Well maybe it is time to let someone else take up the mantle. I guess we're limited to three mods?

I honestly don't know. You could always stay a mod while you're doing SharePoint - what does this depend on?

12:38 AM
Whether or not I keep doing SharePoint?

Yeah, is your company moving away from it or your role

Hard to tell.. I think we will stick with 2007 for a long time.

Oh well, see how you feel in a few weeks :-) You really get what the Stack Exchange thing is about so that's why i'd selfishly like you to stay on!

Haha I hope I'll stay too. Gives me something productive to do anyways.

Yeah it's weird, I'd never done much to help in the community until Stack Overflow and then SP Overflow came along and it really changed quite a few things in life

12:43 AM
Well I always tried to contribute helpful things with my blog.
But probably not to the same degree as with SO and SP.SE

I was just getting my blog going when SO came along and then it went out the window :-)

Haha yeah I definitely don't update as much anymore.
Although I think my blog post as SP.SE question experiment failed...

Q: Easy way to add a custom web part property to a web part?

Kit MenkeI'm creating a web part using Visual Studio 2008 for SharePoint 2007. If I'm creating the web part from scratch, I typically don't have any properties defined yet in my code. I've found that it is hard to remember the syntax for a web part property because of all the attributes I need to specif...

That reminds me, I need to post my answer

I'll be interested to see it, I would probably use code snippets too

Seriously one of the most useful things I've found
I would have accepted @gavinb's answer but he didn't include the snippet!

Maybe he was talking generally

12:51 AM
Well yeah, he posted two links
Maybe I'll just include it in his answer
There we go.. much better with the code snippet in there!

Really nice!

Yeah, I'm not sure why I don't use code snippets more often... I guess I try not to repeat my code like that too much. ;)

To be honest, I never think of it

1:10 AM
Starcraft time! ttyl

No worries, have fun!

Hi, all. Question about SP groups and sites... if you have a custom group called Editors created at the root with no users, can we then give that group different users based on the site? This way we don't have to create dozens of Editors groups, one for each site. Thanks.

11:39 AM
I think the answer is no... you'd have to create groups for each site if the users are different per site.
so the groups will be Site-A-Editors, Site-B-Editors, etc. dang. that's more work.

12:06 PM
@anders-rask, it does matter to me which one is merged. Whichever is easier for you. Thanks!

2:58 PM
@Alex You're right.. the answer is No.
If you want a group to have different members, then you have to create a new group.
As for actually creating the groups, you could use a feature that gets activated on each site.

@steve-lineberry done

@Anders-Rask thanks!

Congrats

Great! Thanks! To you too) I'm excited that we are out of better. Especially today, at the Programmers Day ) and especially in Metro Style :)

Q: New Design Launched

JinAs you can see the new design just went live. Which means this site has been officially launched! Congratulations! Thank you for your valuable design feedback. If you're still seeing the old favicons, please load the follow urls and do a hard browser refresh. http://sstatic.net/sharepoint/img/f...

Yeah!

8:49 PM
Looking good
Right down to the updated shortcut on my iPad :)

Funny thing just happened. I was explaining to my better half about SPSE and she entered it on iPad. 'Nice design' - she said. 'Nah, this is just beta' - I replied. And then I saw it.... I instantly jumped and ran to my computer to check it out :) She is still a bit puzzled :P

Hope we get SWAG before SPC11

Jin
9:04 PM
@AndersRask you should. we already put in rush order for it

I'm in love with the metro-themed WP7, upcoming Win 8, and obviously the new design of this site. Some swag would be cool!

Jin
i'm gonna take a nap.. when i come back i'll tweak the meta theme a bit. not 100% happy with it yet.

Gj @jin thx

Jin
of course i can't guarantee 100%, maybe 90%...

@tim-gabrhel come to SPC then :)

Jin
9:08 PM
i'm not sure when i'll be make the swag post on meta.sp...
we normally send swag to top users once the site has graduated for a bit.
but they'll come for sure! for now, they're made for conferences.

I'd love to, but I already had my training for the year (got to get out of the colder weather for some California Sunshine)
Anyone else planning to get (or already has) a WP7 phone? Getting excited to see AT&T release their lineup for this fall

9:26 PM
@jin i agree that Meta is a bit... bland. Nah bland is too harsh but, its kinda hard to look at since its white on light grey

Jin
i think the contrast is off on Meta, from a readability pov
i should lighten it up a bit, and darken the text, links

or darken outer background

9:48 PM
@vikasmehta for years back i did create one that integrated to AD. Why?

Jin
ha i didn't have too much time to spend on meta
so i just did it quickly. but i'll revisit the styling tonight or tomorrow

10:47 PM
room topic changed to SharePoint: General discussion for sharepoint.stackexchange.com [site-launch]

11:06 PM
Congratulations to our community for making this site successful to launch!

damn, I just realized that I lost my moderation privileges because mod limit is raised when SPSE went out of beta. Still I had one full day of fun deleting competing answers :P

Ahhhhhh!! New site design is awesome @Jin!!!!

@AlexAngas @AndersRask @KitMenke Congrats. You all deserve credit for your work ... clap, clap clap...

@VedranRasol Haha thanks! I think the community deserves most of that credit though. :)

11:22 PM
Agreed! If we didn't have people leaving great answers and helping to edit, close and flag, the quality of the site would be poor
Speaking of that, here's something new...
What is ? ಠ_ಠ

nah, we (community) are just sheeps (with right knowledge of course) and we need guidance :P

@AlexAngas There's no I in SharePoint SharePont.

pont: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont so it is shared bridge

Oh OK, I guess that kind of works! :-/

Hahaha looks like we need to nuke that tag.

11:28 PM
If only that was easy!
I feel like we should have some sort of celebration but the launch happened so fast there's nothing planned :)

Haha I'm going to go celebrate with some pizza... bbl!

I'm going to celebrate with some... work! Because I have some tight deadlines at the moment
@VedranRasol Thanks for your congrats :)
