@cfr I take it changes to l3build still are required - I'm hoping to have a bit of time this week to look at it
08:08
@egreg Read the esami docs - a long list of 'why not just use expl3' things :)
@JosephWright Clearly @egreg helped with the markup for footnote 2 on page 1
08:25
Hmm, a set of R figures where pdfinfo says the dimentions are 75880 x 631 pts, nah dude unscaled, you're not getting that through anything that uses LaTeX.
@JosephWright I agree
@DavidCarlisle :)
@egreg :)
@JosephWright The first section seems to have four [?] that probably should be bib references...
@mickep That too

Am I correct in if one want to redefine a traditional kernel \@macro using Expl3, then you do say \cs_new_protected:Npn \_foobar_macro:n #1 {... } and then overwrite using \cs_set_eq:NN \@macro \_foobar_macro:n ads the normal \cs_set:X functions look for the colon.
@DavidCarlisle well I have not idea how to fix it, but I can offer a minimal example:
\documentclass{article}

\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols1}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols2}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols3}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols4}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols5}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols6}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols7}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols8}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols9}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
\DeclareSymbolFont{symbols10}     {OMS}{cmsy}{m}{n}
@daleif \cs_new_protected:Nn or similar look for a colon, yes

@Skillmon Just curious as to your definition of interface, especially since there is no real l3 layer, we have l2 that now incorporates the expl3 language as well. Not meant to be a troll or anything. Also your view as to when on should camel case a user function. I hate them to be honest, but trying to absorb the idioms.
11:56
@yannisl the things documented in interface3 are interfaces provided by expl3, happy macros (those ending in :D) are not interfaces to primitives, but the primitives themselves. L3 is admittedly a bit more than just expl3, but that's a blurry line nowadays. Regarding CamelCases: Historically the line was internals use @, things meant for package and class authors are in CamelCases, user-level is in all lowercase. That got blurry over the time as well.
12:21
@Skillmon Thanks my interest in the question you just replied, I have recently used these two commands for chapter openings (similar to what memoir provides) and as I get flak when I post anything using expl3 mixed up with TeX or LaTeX2e I used the happy versions.
@yannisl For a package/class: If you're faced with a primitive no interface is provided for you should use something like \cs_new_eq:NN \__mypkg_<primitive>:w \<primitive> and use that internal throughout your code
For the case of \pagegoal and \pagetotal something like \cs_new_eq:NN \c__mypkg_pagegoal_dim \pagegoal might be appropriate (though I'm not sure whether \cs_new_eq:NN would complain about the name if debugging is on).
Yes much better I will do that, I already do it for latex2e but mostly save them as original eg \orgaddcontentline but your suggestion is good.

@UlrikeFischer thanks there is an open issue for that I'll compare it with the example there
@DavidCarlisle is there an open issue? I found only closed ones?
@UlrikeFischer I thoughtthere was, I know I was tracking down some problems and never completely resolved it, let me look...
@UlrikeFischer ah yes that, you could add the above there so we don't lose it
@DavidCarlisle done

@JosephWright I would prefer not to rely on redefining textfiles at just the right moment. (And wrapping copyctan() probably isn't great either.) but it depends a bit on which changes you think are the required ones.
I did try updating my bash scripts as @DavidCarlisle suggested instead, but the directory structure is completely different for l3build.
@UlrikeFischer thanks Now I just need to remember what my plan was at the time for fixing it....
13:50
@cfr Cool - I'll work on it

does anybody use Blackboard? wondering what exactly they mean by bibtex format as it keeps telling me my .bib contains no references.

@Skillmon you could give me a 100 rep bounty
@DavidCarlisle too late, already got more rep.

Have there been any reported problems with MacTeX 2024 on macOS Sequoia before I upgrade to the latter?

@DavidCarlisle are you ok with the amsthm-tagging PR?
22:17
@UlrikeFischer er probably, I have been a bit distracted, please merge anyway.
