@PhelypeOleinik sorry, but I had to draw some bottom line, and that was 6% for \prg_do_nothing: protected vs. unprotected. And that's why I did the other benchmark with \def\mytmp{}, just to show that with some actual code (even if it's something simple as the single def) the difference already becomes negligible. Maybe my wording was poor.

@CarLaTeX Well, I hope that the percentage of flatearthers is MUCH less than that... and I still think that a good slice of them is just joking around ;-)
