@barbarabeeton Concerning tex.stackexchange.com/questions/534182, you are probably well advised to save the code from the answer from texwelt on your machine locally if you need it before it disappears. I don't have a good feeling about the folks there at texwelt.

@Just_A_Man -- Thanks. I'll do that. (The parsing of the entries was pretty much what I expected.)

@PhelypeOleinik Respondeu ao e-mail novamente :/

@PabloGonzálezL I'll take a look tomorrow. I'm about to go to bed :-)
@PabloGonzálezL Though it seems like something I forgot to declare in case you don't use the samples option

@Just_A_Man Regarding that folks (the one who deleted his contributions): though there was no undelete feature, since nobody expected this, the posts have been manually restored by the admin, since the intention is not to lose code once it's published with Creative Commons license.

@PhelypeOleinik Have a good rest, Netflix time for me :)

@PabloGonzálezL Thanks, you too!

breakfast

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@JosephWright I get a curious pdf version back if I compile this with latex (not pdflatex):
\documentclass{article}

\usepackage{l3pdf}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\pdf_uncompress:
\pdf_version_gset:n{2.0}
\tl_set:Nx\l_tmpa_tl{\pdf_version:}
\tl_show:N\l_tmpa_tl
\ExplSyntaxOff

\begin{document}
\end{document}

@UlrikeFischer -1.-1.

@DavidCarlisle yes, it is in the backend code (for every version).

9:24 AM
@DavidCarlisle I remember now, the version has to be set with -dCompatibilityLevel=2.0 and we found no way to set it with setdistillerparams as the option is ignored there. chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/41?m=53279258#53279258. I wonder how \pdf_version_compare:NnTF should handle this.

@UlrikeFischer shouldn't it be set to something sensible at the tex level anyway?

@DavidCarlisle what should be set?

@UlrikeFischer \l_tmpa_tl here:-) but also doesn't it work to set compatlevel in the file if you use ps2pdfwr ?

9:39 AM
@DavidCarlisle Well the question is what is sensible. If I do \pdf_version_gset:n{2.0} in the document and then compile with latex+dvips+ps2pdf the resulting pdf is %PDF-1.4. If I compile with ps2pdf -dCompatibilityLevel=1.7 the pdf is 1.7. So basically the setting in the document is irrelevant, unless there is a way to force the value on ps2pdf which we didn't found yet as setdistillerparams doesn't work here.

9:55 AM
@UlrikeFischer I think it has to be something more like << /OutputDevice /pdfwrite /CompatibilityLevel 2.0 >> setpagedevice but that doesn't work either:-) The example < /OutputDevice /pdfwrite /OutputFile (MyPDF.pdf) >> setpagedevice at ghostscript.com/doc/current/Language.htm looks similar

10:11 AM
@DavidCarlisle but it seems to do something, I get a message about 2.0. In my ghostscript gs_pdfwr.ps contains ` /CompatibilityLevel 1.7` and this is the level I get if I use gswin64c directly.

10:22 AM
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer The whole business of PDF version in non-PDF-mode routes is hard, as we don't really control it. Suggestions on a better approach welcome!
@UlrikeFischer Exactly, which is why I wanted a marker 'sorry, out of my control' value

10:50 AM
Hello friends
I am looking for a symbol that would be a big convolution
ie $*$ but more of a $\sum$
Should I just slap a \large and the syntax to put things under and over it?
Or is there a more standard method for it

@JosephWright yes I remember now. But perhaps with a fresh look we find a way to inject the /CompatibilityLevel in the right place. After all compresslevel suddenly works too ;-)

@Slereah you can't use \large in math mode

@UlrikeFischer Could be

@Slereah pdftex or luatex/xetex unicode has several * 🞾 etc

Thx

@PauloCereda -- Bon matin. That road clearly needs a well-marked duck lane.

@barbarabeeton :)

4:30 PM
Afternoon quack

@PauloCereda Lunch?

@AlanMunn /quacks suspiciously

@JosephWright: I had a quick serial downvote session, which was partially reversed. This may have been an automated reversal, but I think there should be more. How do I inquire about this?
Should I ask on Meta.TeX?

5:08 PM
@Werner Probably one for the Powers

@JosephWright Thanks.

5:23 PM
Cooking advice from cooking.se: If you are trying to char bell peppers, I'd suggest a pair of metal tongs over a gas range or a blowtorch if you have either of these. Or a grill. Or a baby dragon.

@AlanMunn -- Do they have any suggestions where one can acquire a baby dragon?

@barbarabeeton In the toilet paper aisle?

@AlanMunn -- Hmm. Too much of a fire hazard under normal circumstances. The fire inspectors would never approve.

@barbarabeeton ooh dragons
I wonder if the aisle will be labeled Hic sunt dracones.

@barbarabeeton I figured the non-existent dragons might as well be with the non-existent toilet paper.

5:34 PM
@AlanMunn -- Reasonable logic. +1.

@AlanMunn ooh
@AlanMunn that's dragon talk
ooh snake space program

@AlanMunn -- I keep looking for, but haven't managed to find, one of my favorite New Yorker cartoons: a demure maiden sitting patiently on a rock, while a dragon turns a spit, roasting a chicken over a small fire. Quite a different sort of dragon from the one slain by @UlrikeFischer's maiden.

5:52 PM
@barbarabeeton /duck ping

@PauloCereda -- ???

@barbarabeeton mail, that is. :)

6:30 PM
@AlanMunn Baby dragons are probably not good at following instructions. After all, they are babies.

7:08 PM
@DavidCarlisle quack

@PauloCereda dinner

@DavidCarlisle oh no
