@DavidCarlisle I pushed in a branch a new version for zref-pagelayout. But I think abspos has to wait - there is no documentation ;-(. So I need to figure out the code.
@DavidCarlisle it is ;-). I should go to bed. I will dream of the question how to extend this switches in zref-abspos with the luatex test for \pagewidth ;-)
@cis although that is almost never used with \usepackage as it doesn't make a lot of sense in a document. If a package requires a particular version of another package then it makes sense for the package to use \RequirePackag{iftex}[2019/01/01] so that a document using the main package gets a warning if it has an old iftex but in a document that is just for you and you are not distributing as source, the date check isn't useful
Normally I do that: · Download the zip-file of the package (here xsim). · replace the old files of the package with the new files (and the manual too) · type in texhash in the cmd
Normally that works....
tlmgr update ---> gives me "TeXlive is frozen"
... ... ...
Ahh.... But he updates lots of things at this moment.... Maybe, the problem was: I need `tlmgr update --self` first....
@cis you should more or less never have to get the zip file from ctan and install by hand (and it's usually a bad idea to do that as your package manager then doesn't know which version you have and if you have installed it in a private tree your local copy will hide any future updates)
@DavidCarlisle it is a bit of a pain. There is a \ltx@IfUndefined{pdfpageattr} with a long false branch and basically I simply need to enable it for luatex. Any idea how one could change the test so that is says "\ltx@IfUndefined{pdfpageattr} or ifluatex"?
@UlrikeFischer you could do something similar to the horigin tests we were discussing above, set a tmp variable to 0 then set it to 1 if pdfpageattr undefined or if luatex is treu then test for tmp being 0 or 1 later.... or rewrite the package in expl3 and use an inline boolean "or"
@DavidCarlisle yes, just got the same idea and adding it. (I would love to use expl3 instead, but probably I would break lots of spaces in the process ...;-))
c:\texlive>tlmgr install nxeedspace
TeX Live 2019 is frozen forever and will no
longer be updated. This happens in preparation for a new release.
If you're interested in helping to pretest the new release (when
pretests are available), please read tug.org/texlive/pretest.html.
Otherwise, just wait, and the new release will be ready in due time.
tlmgr.pl: package repository ctan.kako-dev.de/systems/texlive/tlnet (not
verified: gpg unavailable)
tlmgr.pl install: package nxeedspace not present in repository.
@HenriMenke A pity that pgfplots 1.17 missed the TL2020 freeze for just hours, with the important circles fix... but overall it is great news. Thanks for pursuing it.
@UlrikeFischer yep I did that in some cases as I had to fix a lot of packages in a short amount of time when I first picked these up, should go back and change them to not do that really. the iterations has been (add requirepackage luatex85, just to keep it working, replace luatex85 by \let of specific commands, finally fix up the packge to use new names properly

What could I do here?

@cis run fmtutil-sys --all to rebuild the formats (that should have happened automatically) but perhaps you have local configuration hiding the sources you just updated.
@UlrikeFischer well it's only one step removed since I know how \ifluatex is defined:-) But if iftex is loaded it should be \ifluatex but I don't see any need to load the package just for that
@UlrikeFischer I'm still a bit suspicious about those \ifpdf in abspos but tempted to say leave them for now, they have been there a long time (but probably change \RequirePackage{ifpdf} to \RequirePackage{iftex}[2019/11/07] wherever it appears.
@cis I have used tex for over 30 years and have never had to uninstall and re-install the same version. If you find yourself doing that then something is wrong with your setup.
@UlrikeFischer yes that's what the search said. I'm in no rush to update the oberdiek bundle though so the ones in there can wait until an update is needed.
@UlrikeFischer shall I change the requirepackage{ifpdf}
