Quack?

@PauloCereda Quack, quack, quack, quack

@JosephWright ooh
SGDQ 2018 anyone? :)

9:39 AM
Looks like my Mac has died...

@PauloCereda Oh no!
@PauloCereda What's happened

@JosephWright It does not turn on. No sign.

@PauloCereda Ah, sounds bad

@JosephWright Phew! Power cord.

9:57 AM
@PauloCereda You should have followed @egreg's advice and stuck to windows.

@DavidCarlisle I am a UK-TUG member so I strictly follow the no windows policy. :)

@PauloCereda you mean like Joseph and me?

@DavidCarlisle :)

10:58 AM
@DavidCarlisle :)

3 hours later…
1:49 PM
Does anybody know a bit of Dutch?

@PauloCereda Yes, David's best friend Google Translate ;)

@TeXnician I was afraid someone was going to say that. :)

2 hours later…
3:41 PM
@PauloCereda nederlands is heel gemakkelijk

4:00 PM
@DavidCarlisle oh my

@PauloCereda Ik steun Brazilië, dus win ik £ 20

6:19 PM
Defining a new shape for circuitikz turns out to be something I don't manage...

6:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle Interesting choice of quote ...

7:17 PM
@Skillmon You could just look up a resembling symbol, copy its definition and then modify it.

8:06 PM
@marmot I know, but there is no resembling symbol. I'm currently just writing a macro (in a similar manner to tex.stackexchange.com/a/435151/117050)
@marmot this low level pgf simply isn't my cup of tea.

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE

@Skillmon I dunno, once I fabricated something here, the OP seemed OK with it. Pretty much any TikZ command cann be straightforwardly translated into a pgf command (which is not very surprising, is it?;-), and the only thing one has to remember is to use \pgfpathmoveto instead just starting at a coordinate.

I like how Outlook marked an official Microsoft email as spam. :)

@PauloCereda I thought Brazil has not yet been kicked out. What R U talking about?

@marmot Problem is, I need something resizing to contents and stuff, it's just simpler to define a macro which can use anything usable in a tikzpicture.
@PauloCereda you know the saying: "Windows is not a virus, a virus is well engineered"

8:17 PM
@Skillmon There exists \pgfnode for that. Do you have a picture?

@Skillmon LOL

@marmot you don't have to invest time, as I said, I can just define a macro for it.
@marmot something like that with the empty circles being anchors I can use and the grey box being subject to size changes depending on the contents... And the height in between the connectors fixed.

@Skillmon everyone should use picture mode

i'm typing up some stuff in LaTeX and in a \lstlisting I have some mathematica code. However, the equals signs in the code are merging together, so double equals signs just look like a ridiculously long equals sign. how could i fix this?

@DavidCarlisle I know, but it's not only for me

8:23 PM
this is also happening in a \lstlisting with python code.
is there a way i could get, say, \, to work in lstlisting so I can add a space?

@Skillmon luckily I still had time to edit my comment

@heather this might depend on the language specific definitions, used fonts, ... Best to ask a question on the main site.
@DavidCarlisle nice edit. circuitikz is faster if you're drawing some sketches.

@Skillmon okay, thanks =)

@heather you can define an escape character to allow you to insert tex commands, but the real question is why the = are being squashed together in the first place

@DavidCarlisle upvote for comment

8:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle i asked a question on the main site.

@heather er yes but you don't give many clues, the advantage of using the main site is that you can show a test document and an image of the output you get so people can reproduce and debug the problem

okay, i'll update the question.
...and updated.

8:54 PM
Is there a possibility to add a specific coordinate to the anchors of a node? So lets say I have a node created with \node (zz) at (0,0) {}; is it possible to add a specific coordinate to the known anchors of zz with something like \path (1,1) coordinate (zz.foo); (that sadly doesn't work).

Frank broke my package I guess I need to update tabulary

Q: Missing vertical space in tabulary

NoMWENoAnswerPlease consider the following MWE: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{tabulary} \begin{document} \begin{tabulary}{5cm}{rL} A & B\\[5cm] A & B\\ \end{tabulary} \end{document} Previously (with array.sty v2.4d) this resulted in an increased space between the two rows, but with arr...

1 hour later…
10:08 PM
@Skillmon The picture syntax allows you to do something like this.

@marmot what is the picture syntax?
@marmot you do mean \pic, don't you?

@Skillmon give me 5 minutes

10:23 PM
@Skillmon Yes, I meant \pic
\documentclass[tikz,border=3.14mm]{standalone}

\tikzset{Skillmon/.pic={
\node[draw,rounded corners,fill=gray!20,align=center] (Skill) at (0,0) {#1};
\draw[fill] ([yshift=-4pt]Skill.north west)
-- ++(-0.8,0) coordinate (-tl) -- ++(1pt,0) circle (1pt);
\draw[fill] ([yshift=4pt]Skill.south west)
-- ++(-0.8,0) coordinate (-bl) -- ++(1pt,0) circle (1pt);
\draw[fill] ([yshift=-4pt]Skill.north east)
-- ++(0.8,0) coordinate (-tr) -- ++(-1pt,0) circle (1pt);
\draw[fill] ([yshift=4pt]Skill.south east)
-- ++(0.8,0) coordinate (-br) -- ++(-1pt,0) circle (1pt);

@marmot sadly, this is not exactly the same :( Adding something with a - instead of a . is easy, as TikZ doesn't bother about the dash, but the dot :( Sad that this seems not so easily manageable. Thanks for your time, though!

@Skillmon I agree. Perhaps [tex.stackexchange.com/q/349914/121799](this) is a reasonable starting point for you then.

@marmot nope, it doesn't. I already took a look at the circuitikz code, and roughly understand how the shapes are defined, but I don't want to reimplement TikZ's text box code, which I think I would need to, if I was about to implement it the way I wanted it at first. The somewhat hacky solution I use atm should satisfy my needs though, anything more would be of academical interest, but I don't have the time for luxury like that :)
