@Kurt I think your edit nullified our deletion here: tex.stackexchange.com/a/386700/101651

@PauloCereda New version of tikzducks available, with Paulo duck! @samcarter I love the page numbers!

6:34 AM
@AlanMunn I don't know what search pathes luaotfload uses on mac. You could try to call luaotfload-tool to recreate the font name database.

6:47 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh god, you weren't satisfied with the normal pineapple pizza and thought of taking it to the next level with mango?
(also... mango? Why mango?)

7:32 AM
@AlanMunn Also Schweizerdeutsch, Romansch, ...
@DavidCarlisle Ooh, where?

@UlrikeFischer Oh I see... I don't see any improvements though

@Moriambar If you want I can add also lychees, bananas and perhaps some melon.

@UlrikeFischer It's just that I don't like mango, even when it's not on a pizza

8:38 AM
@CarLaTeX :) I just have to be careful that there won't be too many pages - otherwise this might get confusing.

8:48 AM
@samcarter If the roman were able to represent large numbers it should be possible with ducks too. Ask @PauloCereda to invent a duck number system.

@UlrikeFischer Fantastic idea :) Maybe colour code the place value - and as base number the number of toes of a duck?

@samcarter You could use the big duck for the tens and the little ones for the units :):):)

@CarLaTeX Interesting idea!

@samcarter :)

@CarLaTeX Do you know this story: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ugly_Duckling ? Maybe every n-th duck could be an ugly duckling

9:02 AM
@samcarter Oh yes, it's very famous! It's "Il brutto anatroccolo" in Italian. Great idea!

9:38 AM
OMG DUCKS

9:52 AM
@PauloCereda They read in van Duck's mind: tex.stackexchange.com/q/386800/101651

the author of a book includes exercises and solutions, with a home-grown "delay" mechanism that saves the solutions and posts them at the end of a chapter.
unfortunately, some of the solutions contain numbered equations, and the numbers are assigned at the time they are input, so equation numbers end up out of order.
has this question appeared here, or does anyone know of a workable solution?

yo'
1:48 PM
@barbarabeeton a workable solution is delayed expansion, e.g. via an external file

@yo' -- thanks. i need to wrap my head around this (and figure out how the homebrew code actually works). i'll be in touch off-line.

> The Radio Times reports that Jenna Coleman has been asked by the BBC to make an appearance in the upcoming Christmas special, reprising her role as Clara for one last time in Peter Capaldiā€™s tenure on the show.
C'mon, I am sick of Clara Oswald...

yo'
@barbarabeeton well, there are certainly packages for this. But basically just wrapping the stuff in \begin{filecontents}{\jobname.foo}...\end{filecontents} and then doing \input{\jobname.foo} at the end of the chapter should do the trick

2:03 PM
@yo' -- i'm hoping not to have to rip out the entire code (the book is over 800 pages long and also contains significant chunks of r code) and start over. the exercises appear in dribs and drabs, so the file will have to be kept open for the duration, like an aux file. more later.

2:19 PM
@JosephWright Can mods migrate to any site? tex.stackexchange.com/q/386852/2693

@AlanMunn Yes: done

@JosephWright Thanks.
@JosephWright BTW, do you have any thoughts about my font weirdness with luaotfload? (see above) I know you've abandoned the Mac :( but...

@AlanMunn Not abandoned, more been forced out by economic realities
@AlanMunn Will have a look

2:38 PM
@JosephWright Yes, I know. I just hope your new PC lasts as long as a Mac will. I have some veritable antiques that are still chugging along.

2:57 PM
@Alan, @Joseph: Mac woes: my iPad broke the screen in the oddest way possible (from inside), and I had to pay a lot of bucks to fix it.

@PauloCereda Did you drop it?

@AlanMunn That's the crazy part: I did absolutely nothing significant that I can remember. Even the technician was mesmerized by this. I raised the possibility of something related to the batteries (there are reports of batteries inflating in some corner cases), but he debunked my theory because the location was far from the batteries themselves, and they were fine. Also, the touch was compromised.

@PauloCereda Very strange. BTW s/mesmerized/mystified/

@AlanMunn Thanks. :) It's not an official Apple fix, but it's an specialized one.
@AlanMunn: in other news, do you like arroz doce?

@PauloCereda I do. As long as it's not to stodgy. Our local Lebanese restaurant makes a really good one.

3:11 PM
@AlanMunn No it's a good balance. :) I will take @barbarabeeton and @egreg for some when in Rio. :)

@PauloCereda :)

3:30 PM
@JosephWright Happy 1000 commits :) github.com/josephwright/beamer

@samcarter yaaay

3:46 PM
@PauloCereda I wonder if there are greeting cards for such occasions.

4:17 PM
@PauloCereda -- i love good arroz doce; even better is aletria. (the mother of one of the waiters at our formerly favorite portuguese restaurant used to make batches of it, and it would be available on special occasions. "formerly favorite" only because, sadly, it no longer exists.)

@barbarabeeton oh I am sorry to hear that. Arroz doce is very famous in Portugal, so I heard. In here it's quite common. :)

@samcarter I love the SG1 ducks in the tikzducks manual (just updated)!

@TeXnician Any resemblance to characters I don't have the trademark are purely coincidental :) But good to hear there are still a few people out there who remember it :)

@samcarter Of course ;) You won't believe it, but I have seen all of SG1, Atlantis and (well, the very short) Universe (apart from all Star Trek Series, but that's another story).

4:36 PM
Oh no no no no.... no!!! tex.stackexchange.com/q/386886/3929

@TeXnician My OCD to see all series even forced me to bring back the DVD of Stargate Infinity from an holiday in England as these were not available in Germany - but I was very disappointed! Star Trek did not strike me as hard - I could resist all series besides Voyager (this one I found very good).

@samcarter Well, Stargate is (at many points) a modern Western, whereas Star Trek is mostly a soap opera in space :)

@TeXnician Interesting but very good description! Are you looking forward to Star Trek Discovery? --- I have to go now (need a few things before the shops are closing), see you later!

@samcarter Actually yes, although I made the experience that you have to see a Star Trek series before you can judge it (most obvious for Star Trek Enterprise, that one with Cpt. Archer).

4:53 PM
Wait a minute, why no one is mentioning Red Dwarf?
So, do you guys want some toast? :)
Where's @LoopSpace? ^^ :D

@TeXnician Specially made for you :)

@samcarter They look awesome. I hope they'll find their way into the next manual (or do we have a showcase anywhere else?).

@samcarter OMG

@TeXnician The last section of the manual is for now the "showcase"

@samcarter Ah, okay. We definitely need a thread for that, once anybody in this chat uses the package ;)

@samcarter I think we should have a tikzducks-contrib repository with all duck varieties we've been collecting over the days.

7:47 PM
@PauloCereda @TeXnician Would a repo on github (with free submission rights) do the trick? What do you think?
@PauloCereda @TeXnician Or maybe some showcase questions on the main site?

@samcarter I thought of a post on the main site like we have for tikz pictures, title pages etc.
@samcarter Yeah, exactly.

@TeXnician If you ask, I may be able to answer :)

@samcarter I won't do today, but probably tomorrow. I have written an entry for my calendar ;)

8:11 PM
@TeXnician Good, then I will have time to think of something to add there :)
