@percusse Are you still around?

12:50 AM
@CarLaTeX -- (sorry for the delay in responding -- today has been a day of concerts, all most enjoyable.) although i can certainly be reached at the ams tech-support address, the matter at hand isn't an ams matter, so if @PauloCereda or @egreg knows how to reach you by email, they can either give you my address or send me yours. (and good luck on your thesis -- if you like, i can add you to my "nag list"; paulo is already a victim.)

@barbarabeeton Don't worry! I'm happy you enjoyed the concerts. It was a busy day for me, too, I'm going on holiday today. @Paul oCereda and @egreg have my email address (to them: please do what Barbara said). Please add me to you NAG list, even if I'm not

@barbarabeeton (sorry, I pressed enter by mistake) ... even if I'm not a computer scientist (only an old COBOL programmer) nor am I a mathematician (but I love math)... I'm also too old to be writing a thesis! However, @DavidCarlisle showed me how to check TL traslations, I don't know if you read the messages after mine to you.

A: Drawing manifolds in tikz

prt13463Not all pictures you find in books are created in TikZ. It is possible that the picture you posted was created in a vector graphics software, such as Inkscape, and then exported. https://inkscape.org/en/learn/tutorials/ Unless you have evidence that it was made in TikZ, I'd say that it is unli...

Not an answer. Please help me delete it.

@HenriMenke still not an answer?

@naphaneal Yes. Why still?

8:31 AM
@HenriMenke could have been edited into one

@naphaneal Have you looked at the question? It is clearly not an answer.

New SSH keys generated for new laptop ... phew!

@CarLaTeX I'm fine, thank you

@egreg coupling pagestyle and pagenumbering is mad. What did they try to achieve?

@Johannes_B I really don't know. They just want that anything before \tableofcontents is numbered with Roman numerals. Note that part of \maketitle is \pagestyle{myplain}\pagenumbering{arabic}, so adding \pagenumbering{arabic} to the myplain style is nonsensical.

@egreg Proper template nonsense :-)

10:08 AM
@Johannes_B And they don't issue \clearpage before \pagenumbering, so the proper warning of duplicate destination is issued.

@egreg I don't know who coded that stuff, but as so often with templates, the result is rubbish.
Druck den Quelltext aus, schreib mit Edding SCHEIẞDRECK drauf und häng das ans Schwarze Brett. So einen Müll sollte keiner als Vorlage nutzen. Warne die anderen Studenten. — Johannes_B 3 hours ago
@egreg I was angry about templates earlier today.

@Johannes_B My impression is that Sch...eck is quite a strong word.

@egreg It really is.

@SBM Me too, I'm going on holiday! :):):)

SBM
@CarLaTeX Nice
It was raining so much today.

10:19 AM
@CarLaTeX Have a nice time!
@Johannes_B Nice pearl in jheppub: \DeclareFixedFont\trfont{OT1}{phv}{b}{sc}{11}; plus generous usage of \sc
@Johannes_B Not to mention \hoffset=-1in and \voffset=-1in

@egreg Oh. I didn't care to look at the rest :-)

@JosephWright: welcome to the Dell world, although I never had a XPS. :)

@SBM Oooh, instead there is a serious drought this year in Italy!
@egreg Thank you!

SBM
@CarLaTeX oh :(

@PauloCereda Working OK so far

10:34 AM
@JosephWright Thankfully. :) SSD?

@PauloCereda Yes, 256 Gb

@JosephWright Lucky

@PauloCereda Getting all of my old TL versions back will take a while!

Q: unicode-math failing to compile after update of TL 2017

wilxThe following MWE has started failing for me after TL 2017 update today: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{unicode-math} \setmathfont{TeX Gyre Pagella Math} \setmathfont[range={`A-`Z,`a-`z,`0-`9}]{Charis SIL} \begin{document} Test. \end{document} The error is ! Missing number, treated as ze...

@wilx Already reported on GitHub: I'll take a look later today

@JosephWright OK. Cool.

`$ man synctex` starts here with an error message on stderr: mdoc error: .It without preceding .Bl (#22)
[...] Is it the same for you?
I run texlive 2017 on gentoo Linux and try to find out, if it is a gentoo problem or from upstream.

@JosephWright The greedy booleans strike!

@egreg Yes I know: was bound to cause a few issues
@egreg siunitx one is fixed (that was an out-and-out error on my part), will look at unicode-math later

1:54 PM
@JosephWright The fix seems to work, I implemented the workaround as CW

1 hour later…
3:13 PM
long time ago I used \usepackage[printonlyused]{acronym} with pdflatex for acronyms, is it still a clever way in luatex? Or is there something more modern/better?

@JonasStein There's acro

1 hour later…
4:23 PM
@DavidCarlisle ^^

5:05 PM
@egreg the acro manual looks great. Do I understand it right, that I will not need extra compilation runs for acro like with glossaries?

5:23 PM
@JonasStein I think it depends on your options.

6:00 PM
@PauloCereda @egreg Do you know the jingle referenced here? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/382897/…

6:14 PM
@Johannes_B windshield?

@PauloCereda That annoying jingle for autoglass repair and replace. You might better know this as Carglass.

6:29 PM
@Johannes_B oooh

@PauloCereda Check out the different jingles in different lanuages. The melody is always the same. :-)

7:05 PM
@Johannes_B :)

A duck!
/ducks

@PauloCereda Quack

@CarLaTeX ooh another duck

@PauloCereda And Palmeiras is leading 2:0

@egreg Yes! :D

@PauloCereda See @ChristianHupfer's comment here: tex.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/7330/…. Tell him something!

8:32 PM
@JosephWright @StefanKottwitz Is there a way to ping Andrew Stacey under the question tex.stackexchange.com/questions/337898 with a mod hammer?
let me check his latest undercover agent name... @LoopSpace

@mathforge You are being summoned! https://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/38963607#38963607
@percusse He's quite active in Twitter.

@PauloCereda Ooh social thingies... I'm quite the opposite unfortunately every now and then
well except this SE thing that is

@percusse Oh I don't have FB.
So I am safe!

@PauloCereda Well others have. So when you open your account, your friends will be ready as a list, thanks to Mark

@percusse Damn Zuckerberg, he ruined my awkward social life.

8:53 PM
@JosephWright I think this is something for you too ;-( texwelt.de/wissen/fragen/20468/…. I stripped it down to this here:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{expl3,xcolor,etoolbox}

\begin{document}

\makeatletter
\def\tcb@set@color#1{%
  \letcs{\current@color}{\string\color@#1}%
  \colorlet{.}{#1}%
}
\tcb@set@color{red}

\ExplSyntaxOn
\color_ensure_current:
\ExplSyntaxOff

\end{document}

@UlrikeFischer Arg: badly formed colour string ...

@JosephWright Yes. But I have no idea what should be changed (it worked in TL16 and supposly also a month ago ...)

@UlrikeFischer I know what's changed ...

@JosephWright That's why I asked you ;-)

@UlrikeFischer The idea of the driver revisions was to use a single internal format for colour in the L3 code: the dvips one. That though relies on the idea that people stick to the way \current@color is supposed to work: it's a raw driver string not some instructions to TeX
@UlrikeFischer I guess for 2e I can pick up that format

9:01 PM
@JosephWright I'm certain that the author of tcolorbox is willing to adapt his code. But what should he do?
