@DavidCarlisle So no palindromes until you reach 700K.

@egreg @AlanMunn has shown the way I just downvote some of your answers to get back in sync

@DavidCarlisle Be my guest. :) You can downvote all the TikZ answers which should have been answered with picture mode.

@barbarabeeton ooh a dangerous duck
@egreg ooh red pens :)
@DavidCarlisle worse: sandboxing was preventing fonts to load

Renewal time for texdev.net ...

Speaking of renewal time, it's been a couple weeks since the November TUG News assured us that “TUGboat 38:3 is going to hit mailboxes soon.” But I don't see it on the web yet. Is it posted on the web after paper copies go out, or is it just that “soon” is a bit flexible? (I foolishly let my TUG membership lapse many years ago, and only recently rejoined. So I don't know what to expect.)

do you guys know if there is something like captionof just without the automatically added figure text? So something to caption a image displayed with includegraphics but within a minipage, so no floats allowed

@Felix.C not clear what you mean, you can just write text in the minipage under the image, or with caption package if I recall correctly you can use some pre-set caption formatting but use the * form to suppress numbering or ...

you cant use a caption inside a minipage...at least not if the minipage is not withi a figure environment and that's the case :(

@Felix.C \captionof not \caption, but why can't you just write text?

i solved it using, centerline...thx anyway

@Felix.C centerline isn't really a latex command, better to use center environment or \centering

TeXnicCenter is open source, where is its source code?

@ArtificialStupidity putting texniccenter into google suggests sourceforge.net/projects/texniccenter

@UlrikeFischer I might try installing it on my machine. Oh, wait a moment…

Thank you all!

@egreg we know you have a windows vm where you do all your real work

6:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle A few days ago a student came to show me some problems with his LaTeX file; his Windoze machine, being in front of me, didn't want to start off.

@egreg you have too high opinion of your powers. That's normal behaviour even when you are not there.

@DavidCarlisle Really? ;-)

is there an acceptable way to call the attention of a question asker to the answer you took time to find for them?

@AGoldMan I think they get pinged when you post the answer, so not much else you can do

@AGoldMan That's their call

The guy put up a bounty, and I answered just too late
You figure he wanted an answer

@AGoldMan he may have the answer

8:31 PM
Also plausible

@AGoldMan Main payoff of a bounty is getting attention ...

@HaraldHanche-Olsen -- i received the "editor's copy" ot tugboat 38:3 on november 7. i'm hugely surprised that the regular mailing hasn't arrived yet. (in the past, for some issues, the regular copy arrived before the editor's copy. that's an anomaly, but there isn't usually such a big gap.) i'll check.
