@Sebastiano Hi ;).
@Sebastiano Good morning for next time .... or now ... ;) Am a little out of it right now.

@barbarabeeton I now had the chance to try, and \footskip=18pt is clearly the simplest solution for the preprint. Thanks!!

tex.stackexchange.com/a/394471/67761 I can't seem to use this for LuaLaTeX

OK. solved now

@percusse Interesting, thanks!

@JosephWright could you take a view on:
it is not very nice to ask a question that almost anyone understand and be locked, i must say..Any idea why it is locked? — Hernan Miraola 21 mins ago

@PauloCereda Should I try the chocolate in the centre?

@samcarter ooooooooh
YES
<3

@PauloCereda Done :) It's better than the Ecuador one (I have yet to try Trinidad )

@samcarter ooh :)

@samcarter 70% is the bare minimum! But 68% can be acceptable as well.

@PauloCereda Good news, it also won against Trinidad! Now my colleagues have to repeat the experiment - let's see what they say.

2:58 PM
@samcarter wooo, I want some. :)

@egreg Normally I would go with > 80%, but then I cannot share with the people around me :(

@samcarter As I said, “bare minimum”. ;-)

Being chocolate, it's alright. :)

@PauloCereda No cacao tree in your back yard?

@samcarter nope. :)

3:02 PM
@PauloCereda Some virtual chocolate for you: ascii-art.de/ascii/c/chocolate.txt

3:18 PM
@egreg Hopefully your paper will help to free more data from their table prisons!
@egreg The disappointing reaction to many "prison break" answers on the main site is something like "Well, this looks good, but I have so many tables and don't want to change them all..."

@samcarter That's sadly true

@DavidCarlisle you are mean

@DavidCarlisle you are not mean :)

4:32 PM
@DavidCarlisle I just saw something rather curious: When you run pdflatex with pdflatex \input test-utf8 then the log-file doesn't contain the message about the the latex format (the LaTeX2e <2017-04-15>) and the babel info. Is this normal?
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.18 (TeX Live 2017/W32TeX) (preloaded format=pdflatex 2017.6.30)  4 OCT 2017 18:30
entering extended mode
 restricted \write18 enabled.
 %&-line parsing enabled.
**\input ./test-utf8.tex
(./test-utf8.tex (d:/texlive/2017/texmf-dist/tex/latex/beamer/beamer.cls

what's in your test-utf8? If I try it with an empty file I get
$  pdflatex \\input test-utf8
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.18 (TeX Live 2017) (preloaded format=pdflatex)
 restricted \write18 enabled.
entering extended mode
LaTeX2e <2017-04-15>
Babel <3.13> and hyphenation patterns for 84 language(s) loaded.
(./test-utf8.tex)

4:52 PM
@DavidCarlisle It is a simple beamer document, but the class doesn't matter (or if it is empty). And the problem is not the terminal output, there I see the LaTeX message, but it isn't in the log-file.

5:32 PM
Hi chat!
I am having a problem - due to insertion of images in the latex code,the paragraphs are shifting their positions somewhere else like upside where i donot want them to be,how to avoid this and place the image and my text paragraph at correct position

@UlrikeFischer oh yes I think that's a known feature, it starts printing that banner before it knows what \jobname is if you use \input
@ChristianHupfer vvvvv
@aidangallagher4 it's also the solution you should accept. (Christian won't mind giving up his tick to a lady:-) — David Carlisle 1 min ago
@BAYMAX paragraphs never move out of sequence, and images inserted by \includegraphics never move out of sequence. If you mean that the contents of \begin{figure}... move then yes that is the only reason to use that enviornment to allow its contents to be moved to get better page breaks.

7:15 PM
@DavidCarlisle I think I lost too many ticks already

7:27 PM
@UlrikeFischer so ungracious don't you think ^^^ ?

7:52 PM
@DavidCarlisle Have some pity, he probably needs the money ;-)

@UlrikeFischer he'd only spend it on sauerkraut pizza

@DavidCarlisle But isn't this good to annoy the italian fraction? He could add pineapple on top.

@UlrikeFischer excellent idea

8:55 PM
@egreg Is arstexnica@guit.org still a valid mail box? My mails return ("Recipient address rejected: Unknown recipient")
@egreg Well I guess that email address I read at guitex.org/home/en/guit-meeting-2017 was just wrong there. It should be guitex instead of guit I think now.
@egreg It's only wrong at the English page, the Italian page has the correct mail address I see. So sorry, no question, it's clear now, thanks.
The second year I mess up attending the GuITeX meeting :-o

@StefanKottwitz :(

@egreg I re-sent, let's see what the org team answers if there's a slot to fill. Since I work right in Mestre/Marghera (with TeX) it would be a good occasion for me.

9:12 PM
@StefanKottwitz Are you there now?

@egreg Just back in Hamburg, but I will be in Mestre several times in the next months, for newbuilds at the Port of Marghera / Fincantieri, the "Carnival Horizon" and the Holland America "Nieuw Statendam"
At the meeting I could present about using TeX in shipbuilding, with recent updates.

@StefanKottwitz Very interesting!

I'm too late as usual, this time with the excuse of >1 month in rough yards with power outages and unusable Internet (Freeport Bahamas) and escaping 2 hurricanes :-o and the wrong published contact email address >:-)
@egreg You are on my slide 13 of tex.world/industry.pdf :-) that's an earlier talk about my topic

@StefanKottwitz :)

1 hour later…
10:41 PM
@egreg all that code you posted and no tick, you should have included some zzzz text.

10:54 PM
@DavidCarlisle Wasn't worth the pain. OP was rather unclear.

@egreg I suspect OP was put on the wrong course by \left\right. Who would have thought that possible?

@DavidCarlisle Incredible!
