@Jan He probably just missed it/forgot it/didn't think about it. As for style manual, I'm not actually sure. Search a bit on Meta, and if you can't find anything, ask a question about it.
@Jan not really. the main thing in that case was to get the main block in a code block so it was readable, other things just do as you notice. for example I noticed that I missed the initial comment line, as I posted the edit but decided to let it go as it was, then presumably you or Stefan added it into the block which is fine as well
@TorbjørnT. @DavidCarlisle: from what I learned till now (sorry, I am still new to be active SE-member) that any greeting, intro or closing lines shall be deleted.
One of my first revisions was denied. I was a bit curious about how deep an editor should change the text of the original poster. So I only formatted the code as it was obviously. My revision was rejected by two peer reviewers, saying, that my edit did not improve the readability at all.
@Jan some people are very hung up on that, I tend to leave them in, especially for new users, and never edit just to remove such things. (there is a question discussing that on meta somewhere)
@Jan yes in the review there are just a few "stock" answers, also the review queue is somewhat notorious for people only spending a few seconds on each review to pick up review badges:-)
@DavidCarlisle I don't mind a friendly tone either. :-) On the other hand, I see the point, that it adds no real information and is hence superfluous to the problem.
@DavidCarlisle I guessed that it is a stock answer. Meanwhile, I forgot the name of the peers, but I doubt, that they where only after the badges. But I can understand, that the burden to peer review something, which has to be done, keeps us from answering questions, which is, what we are here for, in the first place.
@cfr I totally agree with you about this: tex.stackexchange.com/a/345035/101651 This user keeps posting almost useless answers and there are also people who upvote him!
@PauloCereda -- thanks. i've always felt that, like dragons, yeti (is that also plural?) have been badly misunderstood. (at least the chinese understand dragons; consider the chinese imperial dragon, which, among other attributes, represents good luck and prosperity.)
My only reference of an yeti was an old WCW wrestler which used the ring name the yeti. Amusingly, he dressed like a mummy and the announcer said here comes the yetay... Not a reliable source, apparently. :)
@egreg oooh I need to update mine
[paulo@cambridge ~] $ texdoc scsnowman
Sorry, no documentation found for scsnowman.
If you are unsure about the name, try searching CTAN's TeX catalogue at
ctan.org/search.html#byDescription.
@CarLaTeX I know. And many of them are just an identical or near-identical set of links. But I think the user is well-intentioned and I did not mean to pick on them, let alone start a personal vendetta. But I think that's what the user probably thinks.
@PauloCereda -- but i found it right away using the ctan search. unless you're using a "remote" texdoc, you're not likely to find it, and since the online texdoc isn't maintained by the ctan gang, it might not be there yet. don't be sad!
@cfr I've noticed the link-only-answers, too! Fortunately, someone has converted some of his answers into comments. Let's hope he'll understand soon that his behavior is not correct... Merry Xmas!
@cfr ... and he has discovered the chat, too, hahaha!
@CarLaTeX Good evening Mrs. CarLaTeX. You can explain this? I totally agree with you about this: tex.stackexchange.com/a/… This user keeps posting almost useless answers and there are also people who upvote him!
@CarLaTeX and this? @cfr I've noticed the link-only-answers, too! Fortunately, someone has converted some of his answers into comments. Let's hope he'll understand soon that his behavior is not correct... Merry Xmas!
@CarLaTeX After for the good wishes. First explain to me too "@cfr ... and he has discovered the chat, too, hahaha!"
@CarLaTeX I'm still waiting
@PauloCereda I still have not understood the chat if my greetings you have arrived.
@CarLaTeX And after @CarLaTeX I know. And many of them are just an identical or near-identical set of links. But I think the user is well-intentioned and I did not mean to pick on them, let alone start a personal vendetta. But I think that's what the user probably thinks.
@CarLaTeX I ask you kindly explain.
@CarLaTeX @CarLaTeX Well, chat rooms are all public, as far as I know, except for those made private by moderators. Hi @Sebastiano! Cwac @PauloCereda
@Sebastiano Sebastiano, keep calm, we noticed that your answers are all almost identical and link-only, and sometimes exported from Geogebra. Moreover my little irony about the chat was because I thought you would have acted as actually you did (5 message to me in few minutes).
@Sebastiano No, that is if you want to reply to a specific comment. Then you click the arrow. But if you can also ping a user without replying to a specific comment, then you write @ followed by the username.
@CarLaTeX Good evening again. I would kindly explain the following? @Sebastiano cfr ha detto chiaramente che ti ritiene ben intenzionato, io ho cercato di spiegarti perché le tue risposte non vanno bene, altro non so cosa fare.
@Sebastiano Aren't you Italian? I tried to explain that, for the future, it is better if you avoid posting links-only answers, unless they are explicitly required.
@Sebastiano Here on Stackexchange there is no such thing as private messages/private chatrooms, so you need to use some other means of communication if you don't want it open to the public.
@egreg What they have taught me is to respect my parents, education; many may have many titles, but if you are not humble, good and not bad, those titles are by me zero.
@Sebastiano I'm not sure what you're referring to. Somebody criticized your style of answering questions, I guess: criticizing is not being disrespectful.
@Sebastiano Anyway, if you open a chat for you and another user, that's just a name and everybody can see the chat.
@egreg @cfr I totally agree with you about this: tex.stackexchange.com/a/… This user keeps posting almost useless answers and there are also people who upvote him!
@CarLaTeX @Sebastiano cfr ha detto chiaramente che ti ritiene ben intenzionato, io ho cercato di spiegarti perché le tue risposte non vanno bene, altro non so cosa fare. Intent of what?
@CarLaTeX CarLaTeX I know. And many of them are just an identical or near-identical set of links. But I think the user is well-intentioned and I did not mean to pick on them, let alone start a personal vendetta. But I think that's what the user probably thinks.
@egreg OK egreg for your words. Excuse with all very much for this discussion. But I do not talk behind other people, but explain personally. The lady continues. Minimally should apologize.
@Sebastiano This chat is public and is the place where discussing what happens on the site and that's what cfr did. It's certainly not talking behind people.
@Sebastiano Sorry but I think the misunderstanding comes from the word "vendetta" but @cfr clearly said that he do NOT have any intention to start a personal revenge, even if he thinks you may think that seeing his comments to your answers, I hope this is clear...
