@tohecz He did not hit the rep cap on just 121 days?
I hit the rep cap not once, but i can't blame vim for that.

@Johannes_B 120 actually, the very first result is a noise.
@Johannes_B are you sure?

@tohecz I wasn't rep capped yesterday. But I had more than 10. ;-)
@Johannes_B And several of those days are in August, when I'm on holiday. ;-)

@tohecz It is 109 for me, that means it only takes days into account on which i got rep?

ah sorry, I actually count something different. I cound Legendary progress
@Johannes_B yes, because it groups by date from all your rep changes

@tohecz I wasn't rep capped yesterday. But I had more than 10. ;-)

6:03 PM
@egreg yep I know, as I say: it measures Legendary progress, not capping
well, I've got 25 of them, half-way through to Epic

Q: Do not capitalize usernames?

tohecz(I'm not sure if this hasn't been requested before, I couldn't find a duplicate.) I would like to request my user name not to be shown all-caps ever. I understand that the design choice is to have most titles all-caps, but many of them are not all-caps, so I don't understand why user-name should...

@tohecz People there seems a bit chauvinistic: if it's so on EL.SE, then it's right.

@AndrewCashner tei is in fact one of formats supported by tex4ht :) but it really lacks behind in supported features compared to html and odt exports

@Johannes_B well, obviously not worse than on tex.sx :p

@cgnieder It all merges together. WAH! :-D

@Johannes_B :)

Just saw the little duck of @Joseph on his profile page. And then: »@cgnieder liked your comment« what, wait, where the duck am i?

@Johannes_B lol

Q: Do we really need to capitalize usernames?

toheczI have just noticed that on couple communities (ELU, Money, Electronics and maybe others), the username is written in all-caps in the profile page. I would like to ask whether this is really necessary. From what I have tried to get from Data Explorer, around 15-20% of users have a username consi...

The same question on Meta.EE.SE: -2 score and 3 negative comments in 20 minutes, and on Meta.SE: +3 and 2 supportive comments in 5 minutes. Ahhhhhhhhhh

@tohecz Isn't that every day life? ;-)

@Johannes_B well, they suggested in a (now deleted) answer that 'tis so on more sites. So I refiled it on MSE

@tohecz I like your paint foo :-)

7:40 PM
@Johannes_B well, freehand seems to be the only way to go on MSE

@tohecz :-D

@Johannes_B: Thanks

@PauloCereda I've seen that one
@PauloCereda User has posted a few equally poor questions

@JosephWright uh-oh. Non English speaker TeX newbie?

@PauloCereda I think so but also the question is far from clear

@PauloCereda, @JosephWright: The OP of that question sent it to my contact mail address as well -- I think it is spam. Take a look on the Low Quality queue ... it's been deleted thrice already

@ChristianHupfer I'm not sure: perhaps someone desperate and misguided
@ChristianHupfer I'll cut us back to one question to focus on!

@JosephWright: If he writes an question on Graphics to me he must be desparate and misguided ;-)

@ChristianHupfer See? Your mail works. :)

@PauloCereda: Yes, once a week some mail drops in :D Well, my 'real' mail gets about 50 mails a day, all on CTAN and regarding my job ... and some from friends of course

8:36 PM
@ChristianHupfer I get 2 or 3 mails/day. :)

@PauloCereda: No mails to the duck? Shall I write some mails to you? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Apparently my duck deserves no simpathy.
:)

@PauloCereda well, it's more pathetic than sympathetic :D /sarcasm

@PauloCereda: Imagine, @DavidCarlisle proposed I should delete tikz on the dante server :D

@tohecz Oh.

8:41 PM
@tohecz: Rather sympathy for the devil @PauloCereda :-P

@PauloCereda Jon more mailing lists!

@ChristianHupfer ooh so you are in charge of Dante? yay!
@JosephWright I'll get more work to do. :)

@PauloCereda: Not fully yet... I am 'observer' currently, no work to do so far, just having a look how the other ones do the job

@ChristianHupfer Cool, so Robin and Rainer will get a slave volunteer. :)

@ChristianHupfer Oh, so you're one of the people who responded to Petra's article in the recent DTK?

8:43 PM
@ChristianHupfer Who else is new on the team?

@PauloCereda: You won't get a sympathy mail from me :D
@cgnieder: Yes, I was one of the silly ones :D

@ChristianHupfer Oh. :(
@JosephWright David, for sure. :)

@JosephWright: A guy called Johannes (no, not our Johannes here), another German... I don't know him and a woman called Ina, I don't know her neither... and there was another one, but he dropped out quickly...

@ChristianHupfer Hmm, don't know them at the moment
@ChristianHupfer Have to pursue Robin about the UK node

So the snake guy didn't get eaten by the snake? Boo.

8:46 PM
@PauloCereda: The anaconda waited for a duck :-P

@ChristianHupfer Hey! <3
My message was a reference to a Discovery Channel program. :)

@PauloCereda: I read the teaser on Spiegel Online ...

@ChristianHupfer :)

Can anybody explain the difference between \expandonce\emph{blah blah} and \expandonce{\emph blah blah} to me?

@AdamLiter: A rhetorical question? I think @egreg and @JosephWright and many others can ;-)

@AdamLiter First one leaves the expansion of \emph separated by a brace group from the remainder, second case does not
@ChristianHupfer Yup
@AdamLiter Try \edef\test{\expandonce\emph{blah blah}}\show\test and \edef\test{\expandonce{\emph blah blah}}\show\test to see this

@JosephWright How exactly do I do those tests?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{etoolbox}
\begin{document}
\edef\test{\expandonce\emph{blah blah}}\show\test
\edef\test{\expandonce{\emph blah blah}}\show\test
\end{document}

@AdamLiter Just put them in a document and run it

@JosephWright That's what I tried, but I get an error?
@JosephWright Oh, never mind. It just shows it in the log. That makes sense. Sorry. Thanks!
@JosephWright So I take it \emph{blah blah} can't really be expanded any further?

9:15 PM
@AdamLiter Both are incorrect.

@egreg Well yes
@AdamLiter Not in a useful sense with the normal meaning of \emph

@egreg @JosephWright Care to elaborate a bit?

Oh good, another 'three plots' question

@JosephWright Uh-oh.

@AdamLiter No: neither makes any sense to me.

9:34 PM
@AdamLiter What should be the outcome the italic versions of the characters after the expansion?

@egreg Haha, fair enough. :P I definitely don't understand the internals of (La)TeX, nor do I understand how macro expansion works that well. I guess I naively thought that it would expand to something like blah blah. I was trying to answer this question.
But I guess you would need some version of \emph{} that can expand to \emph{blah} \emph{blah}.
@percusse ^^ That, if the above makes any sense.

@AdamLiter Why skip the interword space? It might be different for the normal and emphasized version.

@AdamLiter Don't try until the OP shows a MWE.

@percusse I'm not sure I understand what you mean?

I'm gonna tag half of the TikZ questions with

9:37 PM
@percusse lol :P

@AdamLiter I mean why should \emph{blah blah} become \emph{blah}x2 space belongs emph context.
and it might be different in the emph mode (ever so slightly normally though).
@DavidCarlisle You really need to use pgfpict2e. It converts it for you :)

@percusse Oh, I see. But in this case, the space isn't relevant. This was an attempt on my part to answer a gb4e question. And gb4e handles spacing based on the length of the words that need to be aligned. Basically, the answer to the question that was asked is that you cannot do what the OP wants unless you had a version of \emph{a b c ... z} that expanded to \emph{a} \emph{b} \emph{...} \emph{z}.
I suppose you could have it expand to \emph{blah } \emph{blah} if you wanted to, but there would be no need for that to happen since gb4e handles the spacing.
If that makes sense.

@AdamLiter xstring is your friend if you don't want to use L3.
Or detokenize

@percusse Thanks, I'll look into that sometime later! I should probably really get back to working on my finals. And apparently @egreg has banned me from answering the question until we see an MWE. :P

@AdamLiter Don't forget to brush your teeth :P
I gotta run too. Laterz

9:45 PM
Talk to you later, @percusse! Thanks.

@percusse I'm giving Music: Practice & Theory yet another try

@AdamLiter I don't think it's enough; the macro \gll splits what follows at spaces before looking at macros in the line.
@AdamLiter So \emph{abc def} would not produce two words as far as spacing in the \glt line is concerned
@AdamLiter But, of course, something like the following will work:
\begin{exe}
    \ex German:
    \gll Dies ist    \emph{ein}     \underline{Test}. \\
         This be.3SG INDEF.M.SG.NOM test. \\
    \glt “This is a test.”
\end{exe}

@egreg True, but couldn't you then force the new version of \emph to expand before \gll does, like Nicola did in this answer? It's probably way more complicated than the OP wants. The easiest way would be to just write \emph{abc} \emph{def}.

@AdamLiter Using \emph{abc} \emph{def} in the input is much easier.

@egreg Agreed. But this is finals week for me. I have to come up with some fun way to procrastinate. :P

10:05 PM
@AdamLiter Something like this?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{gb4e}

\makeatletter
\def\GLL#1\\#2\\{%
  \begingroup
  \let\emph\split@emph
  \let\underline\split@underline
  \protected@edef\@tempa{#1\noexpand\\#2\noexpand\\}%
  \expandafter\endgroup\expandafter\gll\@tempa
}
\def\split@emph#1{\dosplit@emph#1 \dosplit@emph\dosplit@emph}
\def\dosplit@emph#1 #2{%
  \ifx#2\dosplit@emph
    \noexpand\emph{#1}%
    \expandafter\@gobbletwo
  \else
    \noexpand\emph{#1}\space
    \expandafter\@firstofone
  \fi
  {\dosplit@emph#2}%

@JosephWright: more on that dude on the site. :(

@PauloCereda BAN HIM! BAN HIM! BAN HIM! oh, ... sorry... :D

@tohecz Well certainly the questions to date are really not good

@JosephWright well, I know. What I dunno is what to do with that.

10:22 PM
Ola!
How are we all? :)

@percusse Again closer to rage-quitting the page. Got -1 on an answer, no comment, no obvious issue, nothing. However, this time it may be for good since I'll likely get Q-banned.

@tohecz I could reopen (it's been closed) but I'm not keen: it really isn't good

@JosephWright question that can't be answered need not be open. I know that we prefer not to close them, but I don't think that this is the one that should be reopened if it got closed.

@tohecz Agreed, hence no action from me :-)

@egreg Yep. It doesn't look that much more complicated than just doing \emph{abc} \emph{def} instead ... :P

10:50 PM
@AdamLiter :)

@tohecz <3

@PauloCereda thanks for lifting up my mood...

@tohecz we are here for each other, pal. :)
