@Graylocke , you ARE in my twilight zone. "Breathe" happens to be the piece that Binar and i connected through computer to phone as high school students in the late 1970s when making crank calls after hours on $5 million equipment meant otherwise.
The best response was "Is that you Jeffrey? [No known spelling, it was spoken.] I know how you like to play pranks on me. Speak up."
And, yes, the muttered lines about madness were as deliberately chosen then as now.
The defense department spent million$ on equipment meant for other purposes than crank calls in the 1970s. It was still the cold war.
One thing about DOD: The regulars work normal hours but the equipment is never turned off.
Binar and i were on the fringes. By day we were child darlings in their eyes.
By night we had the USA cyberworld by storm. There was no address tracing in the nascent internet. We could and did do anything without accountability.
After making some military-related researchers all over the country soil their laundry, fill in the blanks, for which i still feel guilty, we resorted to plain old crank calls.
We had one of the first versatile speech synthesiszers at our fingertips.
And we had attitude (still do, too much). Binar came from a broken family of some privilege. I came from a loving family with so little that i stole left and right.

Binar and i were true *holes, with bitter and no regard. That was, glad to say, looooonnnnnngggggg ago. We've been do-gooders ever since.

I haven't done harm for decades by now but still break into places from habit. A wire cutter and out-of-stock shoes are all it takes. Along with certain kinds of clothing and some psychopathy.
