I've created this room to keep information and discussion about MATL centralized. MATL topics will be preferably discussed in this room, rather than in The Nineteenth Byte or in the Matlab and Octave room as it was up to now
3
I just published a new MATL release (17.0.0). See description (or better yet its documentation) to see changes
3
Someone pin these two messages.
Is pinning the same as starring? I never know the difference (if any)
Pinning is something room owners can do
It keeps a message at the top of the starboard
Ah, ok. Let's see if I know how to use my new-found powers
LOL... you have the same powers in the MATLAB chat room ;)
tada!
17:55
Oh, do I? Lol. So being room owner is the same as creator, right?
I think so...
@LuisMendo creator isn't a title as such
Yeah, whoever creates the room is automatically appointed as a room owner.
you are the only one who stars as RO though, so you're in charge of that
but as soon as you make me RO, I can remove you as RO :D
Got it. I'm learning a lot of things today!
17:56
Also, I didn't know there was an Octave room on SO
cool
@quartata We've got like a dozen room owners in the MATLAB/Octave room ;)
@quartata well, only @beaker speaks Octave ;)
@Adriaan Haha. For being RO you need to provide a few anwers in MATL :-P
@LuisMendo wow that ping sound is irritable here
is it?
17:57
I'll leave you louts to the MATL stuff
@beaker yes it is
I didn't even know they were different.
I know we need to paint the room... and now we need a new sound system
@Adriaan I hadn't noticed it's different from Matlab room's?. It's probably the same as in The 19th Byte
@Adriaan fuzzed-out electro-bass :/
and everything's blue/pink here. Not very easy on the eyes imho, especially the pink
17:58
@quartata It's a very nice place created by @rayryeng :-)
@LuisMendo Quick question: what does b (bubble) do again? I know it's a stack manipulation thing
@Adriaan That's because PPCG doesn't have a site design yet
@quartata Do you know CJam? It's like "rotate" there
@LuisMendo Ah, gotcha.
So if the stack contains 1, 2, 3 it leaves it as 2, 3, 1
So like @ in CJam
All right
18:00
I thought "bubble" was a clearer name, to suggest that the element which is third-from-the top "bubbles up" to the top
@quartata Yes, that's it. I didn't remember CJam's character
@beaker Exactly! Haha
18:19
@Adriaan said the guy with the pink elephant avatar
3
18:36
@LuisMendo I like pink elephants
19:26
:30411394 inter-chat link test
nope
foiled again
in MATLAB and Octave on Stack Overflow Chat, 5 mins ago, by beaker
@Adriaan Oooh, now I get to discover whether I can link to a comment in a different chat room ;)
@beaker ^
It's not the same!
I used http://chat.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/30411453#30411453 taken from pressing the arrow on the left of the original message, then pressed "permalink"
For instance, you had to ping me explicitly.
@Adriaan I understand how to do what you did ;)
81987:30411394 um
nope
matlab-and-octave:30411394 so there
hehehe
okay, i give up
just copy the bloody permalink :P
19:34
i will
you win
@beaker jay \o/
lol
20:06
You missed the opportunity to call this room CHATTL
20:34
@flawr Yes, beaker suggested that :-) But the meaning of the implied word "chattle" didn't fit
Anyway, the name of the room can be changed...
What is implied by "chattle"? Didn't find any translation o_o
Am I safe to assume it is something dirty?
Well then I suggest that at least all MATL libraries will be named that way.
20:57
Although I think that if you make a specific version for King of the Hill, it should be called BATL
21:08
or "cattle"
@beaker Thief (ninja) I was thinking all the time of how you could justify BATL=)
BROTHL
lol
21:26
@flawr :-)
we need to have a battle bot competition on PP&CG
HOTL, GRUNTL, TITL, CASTL, HUSTL, KETL, LITL to be added to the list
SHUTL, SKITL, STARTL, THROTL, GENTL, WHISTL, WRESTL, APOSTL
oh and I think these are my favourites: SUBTL and TURTL
21:42
GRINDL is my favorite
BRITL
21:59
@flawr @flawr You can remove one byte: CASL
@LuisMendo Does that mean that in the next version of MATL you're going to golf out one more byte and call it MTL?
@beaker FUL MTL JACKT
LOL
22:14
CATL?
insert slowpoke meme
@LuisMendo There's not a way to unpack a vector into individual elements on the stack?
@beaker Do you mean this?
>> matl -h Z}
Z}  split array
    1--2 (1 / 2);  0-- (number of subarrays that will be produced)
    split array into subarrays along the first non-singleton
    dimension. With 2 inputs: split into subarrays along the
    dimension indicated by the second input
This will transform vector [10 20 30] into 10, 20, 30 (three numbers in the stack)
yes, that's what i mean
23:11
Just going to post this here as a reference. @LuisMendo Thanks for setting up this room!
Also I like the fourth output of u especially since XC doesn't seem to work in Octave.
23:28
@Suever Pinned! Maybe add a short explanation of what this very useful script does?
@Suever I had plans to support that on Octave. But now that theres the fourth output of u`it's not so urgent
Hey this is pretty fancy!
23:43
@David :-)
