I love HNQ.
why is this worth 96 upvotes?
96
A: Why didn't Voldemort create a seventh Horcrux not knowing Harry was one?

JADHe wanted to split his soul into 7 pieces, not create 7 Horcruxes. The difference here is that the soul in his body counts as one piece, so you only need 6 Horcruxes. As we can see Voldemort say in The Halfblood Prince: Wouldn't it be better, make you stronger, to have your soul in more piec...

Go for gold!
Time for an edit bump to their homepage
You also got into HNQ and them lot love HP

JAD
You know the worst thing?
I got that quote from a SFF answer to the same question
I guessed that was going to be the case haha
Probably should link it in your answer though
JAD
JAD
well, the quote in question is attributed (to the books), which honestly is the place it came from
but yeah... maybe
@TheLethalCarrot for the sake of this then :P
Depends, did you use any reasoning from the answer too? If all you got was the quote then you probably don't need to
Your judgement call of course

08:27
I came up with the two sentences above by myself, then thought "maybe I should provide a quote" and went to look for it
Meh probably not worth it then
96 for 2 sentences and a quote though, wish I could get that haha
JAD
JAD
Honestly, I'm surprised as well
something similar for this one though: movies.stackexchange.com/a/85119/53942 basically someone answered in the comments, and I just ran with it
M&TV is weird in its voting
but hey, I don't mind rep
Well MTV and the HNQ vote weird
08:48
@TheLethalCarrot Take a look at this Bad boy
No quotes at all
9 lines total
Bloody HP and HNQ -_-
Maybe I should become a "HP expert"
The great answer I got for this is like a badge of shame
Someone should say "shame, ding ding ding"
JAD
JAD
shame, ding ding ding
:tips hat:
My first great answer was for a story id question that took about 5 mins to do, that annoys me haha
No longer my top answer now finally though
JAD
JAD
hmm, my first gold badge was actually for a pretty decent question
55
Q: What was Hans Gruber's plan in Die Hard?

JADIn Die Hard, at some point, Hans Gruber reveals a part of his plan to John McClane: When you steal six hundred dollars, you can disappear...but when you steal six hundred million, they will find you...unless you play dead. Die Hard ...

08:51
My first great answer was alright
JAD
JAD
ah yes
hmm, why didn't I upvote that one yet?
Bit late but...
09:25
There are only 13 Great Answer badges total on Seasoned Advice, and no one has 2.
Hmmm, I've never noticed this before, but a few of our "Great Answers" really aren't.
Ours? As in SFF or SA?
As for SFF a lot of ours aren't great, I'll openly say one of mine isn't. In fact it annoys me that it has so many UVs yet ones I spend lots of effort on (that in my opinion) should be great never even get to "Good Answer"
09:54
Ours as in SA. Sorry for the ambiguity. Yeah, I know the feeling. Some of the answers of which I am most proud never got noticed.
All depends on topic and how many eyes see it in the opening few hours unfortunately
My #1 on SA happens to also be the Q&A (plus another answer) of which I am most proud. It doesn't happen often enough, but it's cool when it does.
I did read that one and just UVed it, it is a really nice self answer
Thank you.
And the question now, I always forget to UV the questions, especially after reading a long answer
10:01
I do that too :D Once in a while, I go on a tear just looking for questions that need some love.
I've been doing that whilst going through old questions to answer though again the same thing happens when I look through the current answers haha
I'm getting a bit better at it nowadays though
10:28
I am only just now solid enough on ASOIAF canon to even really try to write answers. I've gotten lucky once or twice because I had just freshly read a relevant passage in one of the books or companion books.
I still haven't completed the books haha
I keep trying but making time to read is hard, especially cos I am a slow reader
same, haven't finished the world of ice and fire despite having it since more than one year
You don't need to be an expert in a topic to answer question (there exists a relevant meta) you just need to use google haha
10:31
or a search of ice and fire for ASOIAF
I've completed them, but these books are dense. You could make a career out of trying to really know them.
yeps, that's Elio and Linda
Well being an "expert" surely does help cos you don't need to spend time googling haha
I still spend all my time googling
@Edlothiad LOL, I hate to admit how little I actually know about food! :)
10:32
One could say the same about myself and ASOIAF
All I know about food is it tastes nice when it goes in and stops me being hungry :P
I Google good though!
why hate? not knowing a lot isn't a problem, not wanting to learn more is
It's more of an expression rather than actually hating it
i hate to admit that i have a lack of knowledge about english
10:37
Bazinga
Lol :) Though to be honest I think I've made more language mistakes than you have haha
I love the way Stack Exchange causes us to see the world through other cultures and languages. It gives me hope that maybe someday we can learn to get along.
Get along, with TLC in the room? Good luck that happening ;)
Oh did everyone see the leaky not so leaky information.
Oh cos I'm the argumentative one!
Does anyone else here love the History and Lore videos?
10:49
I tend to dabble in them, but I've had so much experience with that stuff being incorrect I've stopped seeking them out
(Not necessarily in ASOIAF but in the various other universes I can be considered "knowledgable" in)
No plot spoilers, except that there's one HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE battle, that took at least twice as long, if not more to film compared to BotB and the Carriage Train attack. And that the creators said no one would really realise how many people worked incredibly hard to make it happen. Also S8 in a year.
I was gonna post that earlier and forgot haha
I feel like they're gonna blow all their budget on battles and special effects and forget about plot
Well, the final battle needs to be incredible. We will accept nothing less at this point.
They have a pretty high bar after the loot train attack.
Yes but if most of the budget has gone into one battle the rest of the season is going to be crap. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best
D&D have always said that they know how it ends. Hopefully, that will translate into a solidly written final season.
Yeah but that's the problem, D&D :/
I'll be clear I really enjoy the show but there are a lot of things they do that just leaves you scratching your head
11:06
I posted this a while ago, but no one was around. It's cued up to a great Blackfish line:
Quoth the Blackfish of the Freys:
"Up-jumped toll-collectors. Living on a bridge instead of underneath it like the rest of their kind."
@Jolenealaska I saw that message last time and I can't recall the quote :[
Is it Show only?
No, it's more complete than that. It goes into a lot of detail from the books.
But nothing that contradicts the show.
The Blackfish section in that video is a good example of how the History and Lore videos in general enhance the understanding of viewers of the show. How the Riverrun siege and Edmure's surrender happened is clearer after watching the relevant history.
11:24
@Skooba Happy gold badge
JAD
JAD
ayyyy, gold badge for that HP answer
Lucky you getting first answer on it
JAD
JAD
hmm, the other answer is really good as well
I'm glad that's getting some love too
The quote about Harry making the same off-by-one error
11:50
Isn't that one a book answer though? I can't be bothered to open the Q/A again :P
JAD
JAD
yeah I think it is
but honestly, I don't really care. 90% of my GoT answers on M&TV are book answers as well
Oh yeah book answers greatly improve understanding but shows should be the main focus of answers on MTV
Although from my experience wild speculation is the best type of answer on there
JAD
JAD
@TheLethalCarrot exactly, I'd say book answers are the sane method
I'd say that unless the book answer is grossly offensive to the show canon (LOL), it should be fine
unless explicitly requested in the question of course
To me, for show questions, it should go
- Show
- Books
- Informed speculation
JAD
JAD
plus, finding book quotes is so much less of a pain than scripts
11:53
It seems OK to use the books to answer movie (or show) questions, but don't answer book questions with show (or movie) answers.
Although people usually vote:
- Wild speculation
- Informed speculation
- Books
- Show
JAD
JAD
hmm, I guess it depends on context
@JAD Give me 10 years and I'll finally get gameofsearches.com up and running :P
JAD
JAD
I was actually tempted to ask on SFF whether something similar for HP and LOTR exists
I'd guess it would be on-topic for main
@Jolenealaska Yeah it's fine but shouldn't be the sole focus of the answer especially considering they are 2 separate canons
@JAD Ed was going to create one for LOTR but I'm 99% sure he never even started
JAD
JAD
11:55
I don't know enough about HP canon to know whether that's actually an issue
of course, the HP movies suck ****, but still, I don't think they made stuff up
just left a gross amount out
My one for the show is, I think, done for the front end but needs the back end doing
Yup. Less so for HP, but GoT and ASOIAF are so different now that I expect them to have completely different endings.\
Apparently same ending different route but if the books ever get finished we shall see

@Jolenealaska Valar morghulis
But first Valar dohaerys very hard on some books
did Elio and Linda know the end? if George R R Martin dies, I don't want to see D&D end as the only end...
They've seen extra notes and stories from when he helped with TWOIAF but I think that was all history stuff, I doubt they know the end
Though with endings being the same they'll know it one way or the other
And if he dies, and they do write the last books (which I doubt), they'll have access to his notes
Of little he has
Dunno, there are two books, and as the tv show derivate a lot, would they really know what is from Martin and what from D&D ?
still, i don't think some notes and a tv show ending is enough to write two books
Well I mean they will know the overall ending not the route there
They would likely have to come up with a lot of it themselves
However, E&L didn't really enjoy writing TWOIAF from what I can see so I'm not sure they'd want to write the books if they needed too
12:06
they would be the best to do so, but it would still be fan-fiction. Lot of speculation/created plot, but without altering the universe
Well even if they didn't write it I'm sure they would help
12:18
@TheLethalCarrot Don't we all?
Jon saves the World and becomes King
And everyone clapped!
And boatbaby get's launched at the NK with a trebuchet?
He may or may not fly into the sunset with Dany
E&L's style is just not......GRRMesque
Granted they were writing a different genre entirely
But still.....It felt off
Parts of ASOIAF and prequels are also just history
But GRRM makes it all great and exciting. Unlike TWOIAF, which for the most part, is pretty boring
Oh yeah that's what I mean by I don't think they'd write it, along with them not enjoying it, but I think they'd co-author it with someone else or help with the history and what not
Anyone have a guess as to what happens if you bring a jackass and honeycomb into a brothel?
JAD
JAD
@TheLethalCarrot eek leaks
12:28
Tyrion gets shrunk
@JAD Lol
@Jolenealaska That is the Tyrion used to be 6' joke right?
Is it? It's a joke that Tyrion has started twice (once to Lysa Arryn and once to Grey Worm and Missandei). I have no idea of the punchline.
Well I can't remember if it's in the series but I've read one similar to that, let me look
Oh someone has come up with the ending themselves but it seems plausible
Tyrion walks into a brothel with a honeycomb and a jackass.
Madame: What can we do for you?
Tyrion: I need a woman to lay with, for mine has left me.
Madame: Whatever for? And what's with the honeycomb and the mule?
Tyrion: My woman found a genie in a bottle, and he granted her three wishes. The first was for a house fit for a queen, so he gave her this damn honeycomb. The second wish was that she have the nicest ass in all the land, so he gave her this damn donkey...
Madame: And what about the third wish?

12:47
LOL!
It definitely has not been finished in the series, but that's a pretty funny guess!
Yeah I just had a quick look through the transcripts but that one is pretty good
13:20
Oh nice I hit 300 answers yesterday :)
14:07
Congrats!
I got only 275
Thanks and haha that was an odd time watching that
