08:33
Watch a flood of questions come in tomorrow because I'm out at a customer.
09:17
@TheLethalCarrot Excellent.
@Aegon Arianne II was good, although most of it was just walking. Elia Sand wasn't too bad because she was forced to stay quite by Arianne, and Lady Lance was only mentioned once and that was by Arianne.
@Edlothiad Haha thanks
I'll answer them for you!
I bet you will
@Edlothiad Why do I have such a bad impression of her then
Maybe it's time to re-read the preview chapters and form second impressions
I don't know, cuz she kissed the Maester?
09:27
No idea
I just remember hating her for "Lady lance" stuff
Ye, the two times she said it, lol
They talk abut her a lot in Arianne I, like that she loves horses etc...
I think I'm going to read Barristan I next
@Edlothiad Oh it is great
Want spoilers?
Btw guys, whose dreams do you like the best? I find Dany's dreams the most interesting and engrossing
09:57
I hate Dany (lol ;)
Arya's wolfdreams (or Jons) or Brans greendreams #biasnotbias
No spoilers plx
10:08
Why did Robb not marry Talisa in secret or just keep their whole relationship secret until after the war? Seems even though he was "stupid in love" he could have done that.
@TheLethalCarrot Heh yeah because the Freys in his army would never find out. making him an oathbreaker and a liar
He would have needed witnesses
And witnesses talk
@Edlothiad Boring
@Aegon No, Dany's dreams are boring. They're the ones GRRM wants you to like
Ghosts lined the hallway, dressed in the faded raiment of kings. In their hands were swords of pale fire. They had hair of silver and hair of gold and hair of platinum white, and their eyes were

opal and amethyst, tourmaline and jade. “Faster,” they cried, “faster, faster.” She raced, her feet melting the stone wherever they touched. “Faster!” the ghosts cried as one, and she screamed and threw herself forward. A great knife of pain ripped down her back, and she felt her skin tear open and smelled the stench of burning blood and saw the shadow of wings. And Daenerys Targaryen flew.
It was already a private ceremony though, as long as he kept it that way and the people who were there, who I can't remember, didn't talk he'd be fine. Plus in the show he never had any reason to marry her.
How do Bran's dreams hold up
10:19
So all he had to do was not marry her and keep it quiet and he'd have been fine
@TheLethalCarrot And what happens when she bears him a son? Does Robb disown him as a bastard? Since he never married? What if he dies before the war ends and after that people refuse to follow his heir as Young Wolf never married or sired a son?
@TheLethalCarrot People talk. See How important news was always leaked by serving men and women in Harrenhal or King's Landing.
@TheLethalCarrot Talissa exists only in the show.
In books, that whole thing is rather way more sinister
@Aegon Oh I know people talk and I know she only exists in the show. In the books it makes sense
I feel like they didn't really think it through in the show.
Idk
Felt like given how show was proceeding, there was no incentive in keeping the marriage hidden
Or secret
@Aegon If he dies before the war ends he's lost anyway so Jon/Bran/Rickon take over. Or the Boltons. If he survives then he marries her and the child won't be a bastard anymore.
@TheLethalCarrot Jon was in Nw, Bran and rickon were dead
That's why he needed a heir so bad
Otherwise Sansa would inherit everything, Lady Sansa Lannister
10:23
I haven't watched the early seasons for a while so can't remember exactly what happened and in what order.
Oh yeah I meant Sansa in that list too
He couldn't let Sansa inherit
Sansa meant Lannisters taking over
Either way he'd f'd up then
Wurk time
Does Euron have his own personal coat of arms as well as the Greyjoy one? I'm assuming it's this one...
But I'm not sure if that's for something else of just his own.
@TheLethalCarrot Thats him
10:27
Cool, any reason he has his own or just cos?
Was it cos he was banished or did he have it before then?
I feel like show Euron would be better if he was using his own personal sigil on his ship.
Diont remember
Think he took it after he was crowned
He used plain old greyjoy colors before
Boring then
Would be better if he had it before especially with the design of it
A Feast for Crows - Samwell V

"Who would be so mad as to raid this close to Oldtown?"
Xhondo pointed at a half-sunken longship in the shallows. The remnants of a banner drooped from her stern, smoke-stained and ragged. The charge was one Sam had never seen before: a red eye with a black pupil, beneath a black iron crown supported by two crows. "Whose banner is that?" Sam asked. Xhondo only shrugged.
As far as I can see, in my limited search, that's the only place it is described so doubt we know when he chose it.
@Aegon Pretty good when they confirm R+L=J
Though that does happen after he's taken the Iron Islands, I believe, so not knowing might mean that he did take it after being crowned.
I doubt he sailed under the Greyjoy sigil when he was sailing through Valyria and to Asshai
10:36
@Edlothiad I'd assume he didn't fly one at that time though.
I'd probably speculate he used this personal sigil
If he did that means word would have got round about connecting his personal sigil to him
Why do you write ibid for sources @Edlothiad
I'd assume Sam would have known it was his at that point
Ah
10:38
Well I mean he was in Asshai, no reason Westeros would know him
@Aegon It means same source as above
ibidem
I thought it was something to do with ibid the user
Hence why ibid chose the name ibid.
@Aegon Another user was reading an article when she told me the article cited ibid a load of times
I couldn't stop laughing
@Edlothiad True but word does spread
@TheLethalCarrot From Asshai. Let's agree to disagree
I'm not saying it's likely haha
I'm annoyed that the show doesn't use his own personal coat of arms for the silence and Greyjoy fleet now though
Though I probably need to expect less of the show on all the smaller details
10:42
Well they've shabanged Victarion into Euron
Euron isn't that crazy/piratey in the books, Victarion is
@TheLethalCarrot Mr Robb should've married in secret ;)
Is Victarion even in the show or is literally a straight merge of the two?
@Edlothiad Haha I was repeating Aegon's comment :P
Answered my own question according to the wikia he isn't mentioned at all
Ye they literally killed that character and threw him into Euron. The only reason I like Euron is for his Victarion side
Just like they took Sansa and merged her with Jeyne Pool
Poor Jeyne, stuck with Ramsay. And least Alayne is free
10:59
I get that they can't show all the characters but merging is odd
They've merged Jon and fAegon
Maybe not
Well I think they have
They might have just got rid of fAegon all together
Possiblé, but I think they intended for Jon to be fAegon
I'm sure Jon will end up being a Targ, but I don't think George will call him Aegon, at least not before it's revealed fAegon is a Blackfyre
11:02
I guess we'll only find that out in the next book though
Oh Barristan I is short!
@TheLethalCarrot so..? never?
Quick Barry S catch up before I read his chapter
@Edlothiad Bout right
cryeverytim
@Edlothiad Think there's actually a question on it here
Is Jon = fAegon like Gendry = Edric
Oh you think one exists, that better have been closed as POB
11:08
I think it'll be POB or at least FWP though won't it?
Surely
Kit spotted with Season 8 Script
11:29
Savage
Is that Rhaegal and Viserion bursting through the pyramid?!
Jesus Barrry S gives a lot of oompf to Dany's character
12:13
Before either of you moan that I self answered... I wanted the bronze ASOIAF :P
That was the worst "research" for a question I think I've ever read, lol
Euron was banished, what are his coat of arms?
Well it was a self answer so the research is in the answer
I know but I couldn't think of another reason and I didn't want to just put "What are Euron's coat of arms?"
I don't see the point of self-answers besides badge hunting
0
Q: What coat of arms does Euron Greyjoy use?

TheLethalCarrotEuron Greyjoy was banished by Balon: Some time after the war, in 297 AC, Euron was sent away from the Iron Islands by Lord Balon as punishment for seducing or raping Victarion's salt wife, and he was warned never to return while Balon was alive. Victarion wanted to kill Euron and would have i...

You should've left it open for 2-3 minutes and then slapped that answer down
12:16
It was badge hunting...
@BaeltheBard BURN IT WITH FIRE
@Edlothiad I don't see the point in doing that
@TheLethalCarrot Hence why I've not up-voted you yet.
Why get everyone to start looking then right as they're writing up their answer, answer it myself
@TheLethalCarrot If you're going to abuse the system, abuse it properly, let users like Aegon and myself throw down a quick answer and then you already have one written out and bang!
Multiple answers = HNQ
12:17
Fine will do in the future but it's not abusing the system it's a feature of the system
You think Aegon's self answer last time was "accidental" or "I wanted to even the playing field", if I'd have seen it before him I would've got the same answer in before him, but he would've still posted his answer
@TheLethalCarrot I am the last person to moan about self answers
I just don't see the point in waiting before posting my answer, there's a feature to post it straight away and I'm going to answer it anyway so I might as well do.
Self answers are a feature. Self-answering to get yourself badges is abuse of said feature
@TheLethalCarrot Multiple answers therefore HNQ
Well I would have posted it even if I didn't need the badge, it just so happens that I got the badge for it as well
12:23
7 mins ago, by TheLethalCarrot
It was badge hunting...
That suggests otherwise
This also suggests otherwise:
10 mins ago, by TheLethalCarrot
Before either of you moan that I self answered... I wanted the bronze ASOIAF :P
;)
Systems are however, made to be abused.
Yeah I'm not saying it wasn't, I'm saying even if I didn't need the badge I still would have posted it. Just that the need for the badge provided a further incentive.
I'm skeptical, but ok
I just hate self-answers, cuz my self-answer only got like an upvote a month
Whoohoo, the random question I answered today is in the HNQ
Well my previous self answer only got +3/+4. For some reason users of this stack don't like self answers...
I have a bug that appears and disappears out of its own will without any specific repro scenario
@Aegon Heisenbug? Hate those.
12:29
I have applied a fix but now idk if the bug isn't appearing because the fix worked or because its simply not in the mood of surfacing rn
@TheLethalCarrot They hate self answers. Unless you do an Aegon and answer late
@TheLethalCarrot yeah. Idk what to do
I've had to deal with quite a few of them before, we've got one in our UI that no one can fix because you think it's fine then 2 days later it appears once and disappears for a month again.
@TheLethalCarrot I figured out the why, the how is still eluding me.
This software is shit, can't get it to work
12:38
@Aegon The how is the hard part and sometimes you only find out that the why is wrong when you work out the how...
@TheLethalCarrot I am still going to moan
was ah that a decent question and answer, oh wait it a selfie..... DV :P
I really don't understand why SFF has such a problem with self answers. Actually talking about that they don't get much love on other sites too...
DOWNVOTES
They don't get any love anywhere, cuz if everyone asked every question they'd solved themselves the number of questions on the site would've trebled.
12:43
@TheLethalCarrot I think immediate self answers are the problem. not that i havent done it myself
There's a reason I only have 10 questions, I normally figure out my answer before I need to ask
@Edlothiad How did you get the awoiaf images to be transparent properly?
Go to the site
I think the original theory was User has a problem, posts it here, doesnt get much attention or other users can not solve it. OP eventually find a solution, comes back and posts it.
Yeah but the SE idea is to create a repository of knowledge, so immediate self answers aren't a problem in that regard...
12:44
@TheLethalCarrot There's no non-transparent versions.
@Edlothiad Ah that'll be the problem then
@TheLethalCarrot No one cares about the repository of knowledge, like 99% of our answers come from the respective wikias, which are already held on their own network. the wikia network
@Skooba This is correct.
@Edlothiad I wasn't saying people cared about it haha
Well you're saying they're not a problem, I'm saying not going to stop people from hating
Anyways, you lot can stop moaning about it as I'm the only one posting questions at the moment :P
12:46
Lol
@TheLethalCarrot but its all we have at the moment because no is posting questions
not questions I can answer, keep moaning!
Haha, ones still open waiting for an answer, there's a free "We don't know" just waiting there for someone. If they can make it into something more than those words that is :P
@TheLethalCarrot That would be easy to do, there's enough speculation out there.
Oh yeah but you'd have to use something more than pure speculation... though I have covered a lot of the "evidence" in the question :P
12:49
"We don't know, evidence: see question"
Haha, I think you'd have to do like "Evidence for/against LF: Evidence for/against Joff: Evidence for others:"
There's theories that 3ER sent the the assassin or that Bran did it. Though the Bran ones are annoying- Just because he is the 3ER now doesn't mean he is responsible for everything!
You're gonna end up making me self answer it as we don't know with all evidence for and against each character and then your gonna moan again :P
No, I'd upvote that self answer, not immediate ;)
Cmon two more upvotes to a silver badge!
I might compile a bunch of evidence if I get bored later on then
12:58
The difference is getting high, currently sat at 24!
You should've done the immediate self-answer accept
(I joke you can't accept if you're the self answer)
I'd upvote but wouldn't want you to be badge hunting :P
Can after 2 days
Lol
I'm the only answer to a question asked by someone else, hardly badge hunting. (although, ah nevermind, doesn't help me to silver)
I upvoted it cos you made an easy answer "She turned it down" into quite a good one
What I really need is Superman, Doctor Who, Star Trek and short-stories questions
Well that fella on M&TV was like "She turned it down" but this guy says "it's outrageous how could she...
13:03
Sorry misremembered
IT WONT LET ME EDIT RAAAAA
It was "it's outrageous..." is was "The studio is searching for a new actress who can replace Ms. Holmes in the big-budget picture"
which is just untrue.
@Edlothiad I once asked a question purely to keep the tag active
Knew the answer and all
Was thoroughly disappointed
By the "High voted answer"
Ended up adding my own as well

Q: Why do many statues in Volantis lack heads?

AegonOn ASOIAF Semi-canon wiki page for Volantis, it is said that: Many of the statues in Volantis lack heads Why do those statues lack heads? What is the story behind that and in which part of the series is it told? Is it a cultural thing or some historical event caused that mutilation of those...

The Original answerer didn't even bother to add the quote
lol wtf?
Taliban-ish behavior, perhaps. — PoloHoleSet Oct 14 '16 at 16:12
Badge me up baby
Yeah you went a bit too far there Aegon.
@Edlothiad Well Bamiyan
@Edlothiad Well that's how I would have answered it
Instead of just writing "Century of blood".
13:16
Justin's answer (with your edits of course) is sufficient, your answer is basically an answer to the question "What is the history behind the knocking off of the heads and what was everyone thinking at the time" - An Essay by Aegon ;)
@Edlothiad Sufficient isn't sufficient for me
I did ask the guy if he would like to add that to his answer. He wasn't interested so fair game
@Edlothiad Aren't all of Aegon's answers "An Essay by Aegon"? :P
@TheLethalCarrot ^
Hmm I guess reading your question further does allow for a long essay
Although most of the time your essays tend to ramble
@Edlothiad Sureeeeee
Yay HP question
Yay Downvoted
13:19
I don't know if that's worth a downvote.
I hope you're not downvoting all HP questions because they're HP questions, I mean hilarious, but probably not the nicest way of dealing with them, you can ignore tags
Huh, actually this is not a hypothetical question after all.
That is a daft question though
@Aegon Okay... Ramble =/= become bad. Ramble just means they go on to tangents which aren't really necessary for the most part
@Edlothiad Nah I downvote HP questions which are "If Voldemort drank polyjuice potion with Dumbledore's bits in it, could he see what Dumbledore sees in the Mirror of jahdjkahwd"?
This one, tho, isn't that as I discovered on re-reading it after your comment. Removed the DV.
Oh ya, those are DV worthy, like most HP ting
13:25
And the heisenbug is back
FFs
Why that now works I have no idea
WTF...
In the books when Robert is talking about it'd be kinder to let Bran die than live a cripple, does that happen in the show?
C'est possible
13:43
Lazy/rough evidence, have I missed anything?
Joff: Seems to know about valyrian steel now - similar to books
: Same as books
: Catspaw says "Assassin: You're not supposed to be here. No one is supposed to be here. It's a mercy. He's dead already." similar to what Robert says for Joff to try andf impress him
: He wants to impress Robert?
: LF didn't bet with Tyrion to lose the dagger so might be the same as books and he lost it to Robert, quote?

LF: It was his knife at some point before the attempt, may never have bet it?
: "Chaosh ish a ladder"
Next up Victarion I, @Aegon, good or bad, or should I read Theon I first?
Why "Chash ish a ladder"?
@Edlothiad Theon's was good
@Edlothiad He'd do it to cause chaos and move up the ladder...
Loved what Stannis did
Victarion, I don't remember? I recall Aeron's chapter tho
Oh nay I read it too
I recall the promises Vic made
Hmm Victarion's is shorter, hence why I want to read that for a quick break and save the long ones for later
13:48
It is unrelated to Theon's so the order wouldn't matter
Can someone just favourite my "evidence" post above so I don't lose it? :)
@TheLethalCarrot you being lazy again?
@Skooba Yes and no, means I don't save a file to disk then forget where I put it
Thanks
Skooba I'm going to need you to pin something later.
Meh Victarions chapter was a major let down
Oh it's only partial
@Edlothiad just let me know
14:07
I just did...
@Edlothiad okday done
Well played sir
14:25
@TheLethalCarrot TWOW have Euron's sigil
> And so, Aeron Damphair returned to the salt sea. A dozen longships were drawn up at the wharf below the castle, and twice as many beached along the strand. Familiar banners streamed from their masts: the Greyjoy kraken, the bloody moon of Wynch, the warhorn of the Goodbrothers. But from their sterns flew a flag the priest had never seen before: a red eye with a black pupil beneath an iron crown supported by two crows.
CARRROOOOOOOOTTTT
@theleth @lethal @carrot
theleth got me
lol
@Edlothiad What chapter?
The Forsaken (Aeron I)
Also confirms the okay for the greyjoy sigil
Yeah good spot, will add it in
14:32
That's worthy of my upvote.
Cos of the shout out? :P
Oh no, because now you have 1 real evidence from the books, are up to date with the latest canon, and it looks less speculative.
"as Ed points out"
I know, though I did have some real evidence for his personal CoA
People are going to be like "Where did he point that out?"
Meh, let them wonder
14:37
@TheLethalCarrot Yes, but I didn't like that quote
Like I am with this bloody answer haha
Welcome to the HNQ, the HNQ doesn't mind self-answers
Apparently not
14:57
You've only got around 15 arbitrary hotness points, you won't come up very often on the sidebar
It will climb though, my solo answer is currently at 45
Ye you're now at 19
15:23
Did I miss anything?

A: Do we ever find out who sent the catspaw after Bran in the show?

TheLethalCarrotIt appears as though the show has left it ambiguous on purpose and hasn't explicitly stated who it was so far. The evidence for each of the characters is the following: Cersei/Jaime Lannister: The reason Bran is in a coma is because Jaime pushed him, maybe they sent the assassin to finish the...

In the Bran theory there's this quote "Upproxx theorizes that the current Bran just wanted to ensure he would eventually become the Three Eyed Raven, which makes a lot of sense — we've seen the future Bran guide his younger self before, by taking the form of a raven in visions." - Do we see Bran guide himself? I was under the impression that, that was the current 3ER guiding him.

Q: When and Why did Jeor Mormont join the Night's Watch?

Paul LA key part of the creed the Black Brothers swear to is that "I shall father no sons". But we know that former Lord Commander Jeor Mormont did have a son, Ser Jorah Mormont. Presumably, if the Lord Commander was faithful to his vows, he fathered Jorah prior to taking the Black. Is there anythin...

Has Aegon left?
@TheLethalCarrot you still around?

3 hours later…
21:23
@Aegon is that supposed to be Bran in the ravens?
@Skooba can we get the pointless thing unpinned and the link with the TWOW chapters pinned?
Wait I'm going to make a pin with them all

@BaeltheBard my own fan theory is that Jeor took the black so that Jorah could directly gain the incomes from the lands the Mormonts held, to try and help support his wife's expensive habits
@Edlothiad tis done
@TheLethalCarrot yeah people are crazy. i mean in the books it is clear it is the current TEC

Q: Why was Ser Alliser Thorne sent to the Wall?

C.KocaDuring Robert's Rebellion, so many houses aligned themselves with the current King. However, to the best of my knowledge, none of their heads are sent to the wall. Most of the people fighting for the Crown are pardoned and some of them even retained their former seats, like Barristan Selmy. What...

Hey guys - another book question.
Several times in the first book and perhaps more in later books ...
Cat especially but others too speak of where Sweet Robin was going to be 'fostered".
Some people said Dragonstone with Stannis, others say ... oh crap, now I forget ...
Anyway, the different expectations seem to be significant, but I don't see how. Have I missed some kind of resolution?
Tywin was the other option.
@Jolenealaska I think many people offered as they saw the longer he spent with his mother the softer/spoiled he would become. Since he was to be the next Lord of the Vale and Warden of the East he would need to be hardened up.
Yeah, but either Tywin or Stannis would accomplish that.
What I find odd is that King Robert believed the plan was to foster the kid with Tywin, Cat thought Stannis (I think), and Pycell had an opinion too (in which he was sure).
@Jolenealaska I can't remember is Lysa rejected the ideas or if the other lords did. If they knew of Sweet Robin's reputation and ailments they probably would not want to be blame if the he never shaped up or died in their care.
23:03
I found it interesting that the show made Sweet Robin a bit more enigmatic than the books did. In the books, it's clear that he is actually sick. In the show you're not really sure whether or not he's just overly pampered, protected and spoiled.
23:15
@Jolenealaska yeah i dont they ever show one of his "fits"
