Q: Why didn't the Night King throw the spear at Jon Snow and team

spsIn S07E06 of Game of Thrones, we see the Night King killing a dragon with an ice spear. That got me thinking why didn't he use those spears to kill Jon Snow and others when the white walkers were waiting for ice to form for almost one night. Could there be a specific reason for that?

09:14
@Edlothiad Is there a specific reason why you maintain a certain belligerent and aggressive demeanor on this SE?

Q: Blocking White Walkers sword attacks. Feasible?

Sembei NorimakiIn S7E6: Taking in account how big the spear is, how far he throwed it and we deduce that a huge Ballista would be needed to achieve such a throw. That means that the Night King (or white walkers in general) must be incredibly strong. However in some episodes we see Jon Snow sword fighti...

09:43
@Aegon I personally don't think I'm very belligerent and aggressive. I have strong opinions on matters. Things like the FWP which people quote constantly without educating themselves on all the policies is one thing that bothers me greatly.
@Edlothiad I am not talking about strong opinions
I am talking about certains acts, assumptions and allegations over the span of past few weeks
You're talking about my "aggressiveness" which is based off my "strong opinions"
No I am talking about pure aggressiveness and weird behavior
Like you said above "Without educating themselves"
Or saying "Most people don't read it before quoting it"
I deem your closure of perfectly on-topic questions as aggressive and detrimental to our user base
09:45
When later it turns out you hadn't read it
Evidently not, 4 people agree with me with Close Votes
Hounding people with their reviews
And quoting them on other threads
Just to prove whatever you think you are trying to prove
@Aegon seems like pretty good evidence for most people not having read our POB policies
That's what aggressive, unnecessary and detrimental to our user base
@Edlothiad You are not the Police
Or admin
Or Leader of this community
You need to stop pretending like you know the best
Why do you think you are the only one who is passionate about this community?
And why do you think you are actually helping with your absolutely unnecessary aggression?
Where was I agressive?
How about " Although most people quote it without having read it"?
Implying that I hadn't read the policy?
Or how about me making a comment somewhere on a quote
@Aegon poor reviews in the First Post and Late Answer queues are incredibly detrimental. I'm using the privilege I was given as a 10K user to review these reviews and ensure they meet the standards laid out by a moderator of our community
09:49
And you coming along and saying "Hey don't pretend like thats something you only heard of but can't recall"
@Aegon you can read into that quote how you like. I had other people in mind when writing that comment
@Edlothiad It is a review queue. That's community moderation. People are human. People make mistakes. That's why it takes consensus to take a mod action in queue
@Aegon actually that was more out of personal interest because if a source he in fact existed then it's something I would need to make note of in discussions about the subject
You don't get to hound anyone with their reviews, you are not their reporting manager
@Aegon not in the First Post and Late Answer reviews. Hence why I just like to ensure the users are aware of the good practices and can keep our reviews at a high standard
@Aegon I have acquired the Review Reviews privilege, so really I can
09:52
@Edlothiad Again, you don't get do that. You can make a meta post, have people read it. You can't go around asking them to explain themselves
@Edlothiad How did you figure that out?
Remind me
Where is the Review the Reviews privilege?
And which queue does it go into?
Where self-appointed Supreme Leaders of the community review the reviews?
And First Posts and Late Answer queues work with community consensus as well.
Look across from 10k it says "review reviews"
@Edlothiad We all have review history option
Does it say "Go after the person and bother them?"
@Aegon I've never appointed my self as a Supreme Leader. I have a passion for the review queues. That seems pretty evident as the fourth highest First Post reviewer and over 200 a month. I have an interest in keeping the quality up
09:55
@Edlothiad By your own reviews, by all means, carry on the endeavors.
You have the ability to view reviews
@Aegon would you prefer I simply flagged it for moderator attention and got them banned from the queue withough explaining to them why? That's entirely within all my powers to do
You don't have the ability or right to go after people who made those
I do. @Randal'Thor will confirm that I do
@Edlothiad It's not "your power". It's everyone with necessary rep has that. Happens that I have that privilege as well
@Edlothiad And most certainly, It is more preferable to hear from a Mod, than you
As Mods have a right to go after people
You do to. You can even flag any of my "aggressive" comments for moderator attention and inform them that you think I'm harassing the community. I'll get a message from them and have a talk with them about it
09:57
You don't
And I doubt your flag could have gotten me banned from review queue
But please do try getting me banned
You're wrong there. I have every right to. They have every right not to listen
@Aegon people have been banned from review queues before.
It's hopeless
@Edlothiad Aye for persistant errors, and failing review tests. Not for sporadic, single events
Certainly not by someone flagging a sole event
Yes it is hopeless, you've clearly not informed yourself on the full extent of your privileges.
I see a lost cause when I see one.
Carry on then
@Aegon I'd just like to inform you I have a "personal rule" of sorts based on guidelines set by CMs that unless the user ha at least 70% no action needed in ther past 10 posts. I won't comment on them
That seems like pretty erroneous behaviour to me.
10:00
@Edlothiad The key part here is To you
It looks very suspicious
As it happens, you are not a CM
Well then why have flags been marked helpful when I've flagged people for abuse of the review system?
I have evidence I'll happily show you :)
Flag by all means, and get CMs involved
I have. And they've been marked helpful by our moderators
If they had merit, I don't see why they shouldn't be
All the more reason to flag, rather than taking it upon yourself to intimate people
I'm not getting intimate with anyone?
10:02
intimate as in inform someone of your opinion
Not as in intimate relation
You think it's more respectful to the person to flag them and have them randomly removed from the review queues with a mod message saying "you're reviewing poorly" rather than saying "hey I noticed you use the no action needed button quite a lot. Here's a good guide by our mod to describe its use, I recommend you take a look and judge for yourself how you feel"
@Edlothiad If you want to convince someone that you're not being belligerent and aggressive, then having a long argument with them might not be the best way to do so ;-)
2
@Edlothiad The tone you usually take doesn't convey that mate
Latest episode was brilliant.
I don't care about this Q&A conversation, so I'm having this one instead.
Your tone is mostly "Hey see here, you ignorant idiot. Do this, because I think this is appropriate"
10:04
@DrRDizzle I agree although felt quite predictable
@Edlothiad Everything that can possibly happen at this point will feel at least a little predictable, because every single possibility has been hashed out by various fan theories on the net over the last half a decade.
It's like Littlefinger said, funnily enough - you can't be surprised if you're always fighting every battle everywhere. Only instead of fighting battles, people are writing fan theories very every possible outcome.
@Edlothiad You do know mods can talk as well as just ban, right? :-) There's a few times I've just pinged someone to let them know about a bad review rather than banning them from the queues.
2
@Aegon if that is the tone that comes across I apologise. But noting it as that would've been sufficient for me to change my tone
@Randal'Thor You pinged Mooz yesterday with the same issue
And it is more acceptable
@Aegon As a member of the community, Edlothiad does have the right to raise issues with other members, e.g. about the way they're reviewing. It's also your prerogative not to listen to him, of course.
10:08
And I have never seen you act aggressively
I also talked to mooz personally. He said ok, then we had a chat about what we were up to and that was that
@Edlothiad It's done mate, no problem. That was indeed the tone I perceived when you made the comment about the review. I don't remember it exactly, but I think it was along the lines of "Explain yourself"

Q: Night King's Motive

ashveliI'm stuck with this question from long time and it might be a duplicate. What exactly is the Night King's mission? Does he want to kill all the human or does he want to change the climate to Winter or does he want to rule the GOT world(Westeros & Pessos)?

@Aegon can I ask when this was?
@Randal'Thor a right or privilege exclusive to a particular individual or class. seems pretty unequal to me. Shouldn't everyone regardless of class get the right not to listen to me?
@Randal'Thor I'm also surprised you didn't tell Aegon "it's expected of you not to listen to Ed"
@Edlothiad Can't recall but we had a long conversation, an argument rather, with me first explaining that why I thought no review was needed and ultimately agreeing with you that it may have been a mistake and that its only human to mistake. You're talking to the guy who forgets the quotes he uses in his own answers
@Randal'Thor He did tell me that.
10:16
@Edlothiad Huh?
In the linked message
What I am saying is
Drop the assumptions
And stick to what is helpful
Like "Hey check out this subsequent meta which allows x sort of answers"
Instead of "Don't quote Y, you haven't read X/weren't bothered to read"
Or just "Hey I think it's appropriate to highlight credits on the top"
Instead of "Wow you have hidden the credits quite well"
It's unnecessary
I hope I have conveyed what I hoped to convey
@Randal'Thor dictionary definition of prerogative
@Aegon Crystal. If I recall those were in June which wasn't a great time personally. So I guess I'll just take the opportunity to apologise for making you think I'm aggressive and take your advice on things to do better
@Randal'Thor now that I didn't know. All you reply is "helpful- it's been carried out" OWTTE
@Edlothiad Thank you. And I am sorry about whatever happened in June. Hope you are doing better now.
Oh yeah much better ever since a certain @squirrel egged me on to do something inappropriate.
@Aegon I still don't see the reasoning for closing the other question though. If it ends with "Do we have evidence..?"
But I guess a bigger issue is people coming in on the Monday and editing clear titles with possible spoilers to "why did this character to that thing in that moment while that thing happened" and whether we should just undo those edits
10:32
@Edlothiad That's been an issue on this site since time immemorial, and not just for GoT. There's loads of meta posts about it.
I know. We should do something!
Pitchforks at the ready -----E
Vague titles are useless and annoying
@Randal'Thor is our policy to just change them back?

Q: Will we ever clean up those ridiculous spoiler-free “The Force Awakens” question titles?

DVK-on-Ahch-ToOn one hand[1], I appreciate the intent behind trying to de-spoiler TFA questions. However, we don't have THIS deep and wide a level of hiding data for any of the older works, like the other 3 Star Wars films (Episodes 4-6) or Harry Potter. Does it mean that at some point we will have an offic...

@Edlothiad You are not wrong to disagree. The last line "do we know what happened to Rhaegal?" does make it contentious
10:46
I think a sensible policy is to try to find a happy medium: not spoil anything in the title, but also make the title meaningful and useful.
@Randal'Thor thanks for repeating what I said above :-D
So not "Why did Jon kill Daenerys?", and not "Why did this character kill this other character?" either, but maybe "Why did this murder happen in S8E3?"
A title like that last one is nice because everyone who hasn't seen the episode will know to avoid the question while everyone who has will know what the question is about.
I swear we have a policy about episode numbers in titles.
I'll look when this train decides to take me home. Until then, yes sounds like a good plan
I'm sure someone has seen this: "What Happened to Rhaegal?" and thought "but now it's spoiled because I know something is going to happen to a dragon!
In GoT, it's arguably spoilery even to say "why did [name] do this?" because then people know "hey, that character is still alive!"
@Edlothiad You may be thinking of this meta, but the answer there is more saying "don't make it a rule that every TV question needs to have an episode number in the title" rather than "don't put episode numbers in titles".
Ah yes, that is the one!

Q: Are spoiler edits becoming excessive?

Anthony GristThere seems to be a growing trend lately of question titles being edited to replace any object, person or plot point for a recent movie or TV episode with a vague "this X", resulting in titles like "Why did this person do this thing?" An example from today (before): And after: Why wasn't thi...

@Randal'Thor don't use that argument. I hate that argument.
@Randal'Thor that one sparked the question on slack this morning
Good to know our gut feeling on how to make sensible titles is supported by established policy :-)
@Edlothiad I just said "arguably" - didn't say I supported the argument ;-)
You still used it ;-P

Q: Does The Ice Dragon take place in the same world as A Song of Ice and Fire?
