@bmike, would you mind extrapolating on your comment here? apple.stackexchange.com/questions/88663/…
Like, what should I have done instead? There are just so many different routers and config pages. And I know we want to be as helpful as possible, but wouldnt providing help with 3rd party wifi routers fall out of the scope of support of ask different?
@patrix Fair enough! Pretty screenshots are just my #1 love ^_^

@davidpearce ill give it a go..
I think you did great. The problem lies with the question, not the answer.
As written - its not clear if the op wants an app, a lesson on how things work, a recommendation to get a new router or something else
I'm tempted to edit it to match your answer. Perhaps we can find a better question to host your answer? I don't know what to do, actually. What are your thoughts?
@DavidPearce also - support for routers that are 3rd party is in scope since they relate to iOS hardware interoperability, but I get your sentiment. It might not be the best place, but we tend to defer to the OP when a question is on scope for several sites.

@bmike Yeah, I agree that the question is... /problematic/. At first I went searching on SU for a similar questions (wifi clients on router) but couldn't find a match. I thought to edit the question to change it to "how do i know if my housemates with idevices are home?" but I was afraid that would change the question too significantly.

Do we suspect an issue with support articles in the Apple support area? Or are those safe boot articles genuinely gone? (There's no obvious alternative documentation.)

3:53 PM
@GrahamPerrin Nice catch! I'll look and see, but those articles need a total revamp with all the changes and subsystems that are now under the hood on OS X/

@bmike support.apple.com/kb/HT1564 is back, the 404 earlier was just unlucky timing.
Is the following question clear enough? It's unusual to wish for more swapfile activity …

Q: Mac virtual memory: how to make dynamic_pager create swap (page) files with a normal boot as freely as it does with a safe boot (swapfile1 etc)

Graham PerrinBackground When my MacBookPro5,2 with 8 GB memory boots in safe mode I see that dynamic_pager(8) creates swap files in a way that's relatively unrestrained. In the file system that I dedicate to swap, siblings of /Volumes/swap/swapfile0 are created very quickly, and simple use of an app seems...

… but I have a hunch that with my current environment, it could result in greater performance.

Is this a new discovery: Pressing Command + . (period/full stop) while typing in Messages app brings up a Xcode-style autocomplete box. Haven't tested other apps yet.

@duci9y I don't get that. Is it for correction of spelling? If so, check your System Preferences.

Nope, it's auto completing words for you. For example, you type "go" and press command + period. A combo box opens with all of the words that begin with "go", like good, goal, goalie, goodness, etc.

@duci9y Wow - I've never heard of that. Nice find - thanks for posting it!

So I wonder if I could tell Cult of Mac about it and get my 3 seconds of fame :P

@duci9y looks like it might have been new with snow leopard

@duci9y It works in other apps too. I've always used the escape key instead of command+., but both work.
It's a cool feature, but I've never actually used it :p
Looks like it's actually been around in some form for a long time: hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20031019214026732
But I'm still not sure of the use case. Would this ever be faster than just typing the word?

@NathanGreenstein both work for me now in TextEdit. Yeah I recognise it from long ago, it's probably amongst the hints in Ask Different.
