I have personally noticed that questions do best when they relate to your personal situation.
@Abe So, perhaps your question would be better if it was something like: "I noticed OSX doesn't have a native package manager. Is there a package manager that works well in OSX? I need it to x,y,z."
@Abe This, in turn, allows future visitors to relate to your problem and find a remedy in the same way you did. And it allows there to be a (somewhat) definitive answer: "this will work for you if you..."
