Has anyone with a M1 Mac tried side-loading the Zoom iOS app? I loaded it onto my Air but the sound output doesn't work — other people on a call can hear me, but I can't hear them. Wondering if others have the same experience or if it's just me for some reason... (Zoom 5.4.10 and macOS 11.2, same thing happened on 11.1)

@jtbandes Why sideload the iOS app if there is a native macOS version of Zoom?

@nohillside stuff like this imore.com/…
I know some of this has been fixed with later updates but I feel much more comfortable with the iOS app being sandboxed

@jtbandes AFAIK (and can see) the Mac side of things has been fixed. The Server-side issues are the same for both versions.

I still would rather run the app in an environment where I know it can't randomly manipulate files on my system. Maybe there is a way to do that with standard macos sandboxing—my knowledge on how containers work is not very up to date. I've just seen that generally macOS APIs are much less locked down than iOS and Zoom doesn't seem like particularly well-made software :|

I thought of that - will want to lay with native vs iOS apps when I have a week off for sure.

FWIW, a friend of mine says the Zoom iOS app works on their M1 Mac mini. (The only difference I'm aware of is they're using Zoom 5.4.9 instead of 5.4.10.) So I was just curious for some other data points.
@bmike you'll find many of them don't have resizable windows 😬 Actually, Zoom is one of the relatively few that does. (I think I read it's related to whether the app has iPad multitasking support.) But the other iOS apps I've used have pretty much worked perfectly!

Possibly getting the 2021 MacBook X. Depends on what they release. Looking forward to improved battery life and very low fan usage more than performance.
@nohillside macOS Zoom turns my fans on, guessing iOS doesn't
@jtbandes I thought they blocked sideloading apps.
I heard that but it seems like it was reversed. imore.com/apple-reverses-sideloading-m1-macs
