Hi everyone - could I get some reviewers on this question.

Q: Is there a reason for switch the fn and ctrl keys on the MacBook?

Skeleton BowI've noticed something interesting: on MacBooks, the fn and ctrl keys are switched, with fn on the left and ctrl on the right: This is also how it is on keyboards made for iOS, such as the iPad Folio Keyboard and iPad Smart Keyboard. Apple's own compact keyboard is like this too. Furthermore, Lo...

I really like the author and have found some excellent questions, but as a moderator I need to set that aside and just look at the question in isolation.
1. It has more than one question so it should be closed until an edit makes there one question. If OP has a possible answer - that thinking should be put in an answer, not the question.
2. It’s clearly asking about why did apple do this. My comments indicate how problematic it is to ask Why Apple did X since we will get lots of noise and opinion. Steve Jobs would have fived this - this never would happen if Steve were alive - Apple sucks - no, you suck - Apple rules, etc...
I hope if there’s a practical question to be answered - like if someone needs to remap the keys since they don’t want to retrain their brain - that seems a practical question to ask based on the tidbit of keyboard layouts are not constant in the US layout.
@SkeletonBow We’re talking about your very well documented observation here.

@Tetsujin I won't have a problem with reading stuff on it.. but the posture is just so bad. Hunched over, neck bent, hands put so close looks uncomfortable to me.
That laptop/ tablet is asking too much in exchange for portability (and price maybe? ).

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it might be opinion-based
However, I do know that some things Apple has stated (like why there's no weather app on the iPad). If someone asked that question, would it still be considered opinion-based—even though Apple has given a statement about it? @bmike
@ankii I do however disagree that fn on the left is more ergonomic. I usually press control with my left pinky, so it's easier if it goes on the left. It's practically impossible to press control+tab when the ctrl key is on the right side
This wouldn't be an issue if we could remap keys freely, but it's really difficult to do that. Most keyboards don't send out a keystroke for the fn key, so the OS doesn't identify it as a keypress. Which is really sad.
Also, just another point of annoyance—Apple allows you to remap the fn key to the ctrl key from System Preferences, but they don't let you remap the ctrl key to the fn key! You can't use any other key as the fn key. So if you want the physical fn key to do something else, you basically can't use fn anymore (unless you use Karabiner)
(rant over)
@ankii I use Little Snitch to avoid apps like ScreenShade connecting to different servers with no good reason
