00:00
so instead of sending a letter to
Kyle Cronin
123 something st
city, state country
you'd address it like
Kyle Cronin
virtual box number, country
Kyle Cronin
USA#d89w5
something like that
The mechanism is irrelevant without the actual functioning part of it...
why can't people just address something to my domain and have it make it to me? Screw everything else.
you mean your web domain? that might work
right
For that matter, why not just an e-mail address?
why can't all profile information be stuffed behind that?
it's possible
00:04
the specifics of exactly how this can be accomplished are left as an exercise to the reader
but it would be nice for there to be some way to give someone an address that they can put on a piece of mail that you can subsequently direct wherever you want
basically a DNS for the real world
OK, kind of upset that Lion got rid of the 'pill' in the upper right to hide the top part of the window
Bad answer, but, full screen is the replacement for that.
the full screen button is in the same place as the pill used to be
but the features are completely different
I'm just glad that so far the apps that I want to do it on have implemented View -> Hide Toolbar
well, wait a minute
and you should be able to bind that to a keyboard shortcut too
I actually suggested that because I thought some fullscreen apps hid their toolbar, but that's not the case, aside from iterm
00:12
I wish that the pill was still there
in fact, I use it more than I'll use the full screen, so I wish they just added the full screen stuff to the menu instead
I don't use it often at all.
didn't. don't is futile :).
I first noticed it was missing when I installed Soulver
I wanted to hide the toolbar but the pill was nowhere to be found

Thank you StackExchange, I'm glad you think you're smarter than me.
Any question tagged Lion, on such a specific such as AD (for me) is now highlighted, this is completely obnoxious and unnecessary. I understand it on large topic sites like SO/SU/SF/language sites, and perhaps even gaming. But I don't want it on my Ask Different.
PLEASE tell me there's a way to get rid of that?
I clicked 'set tag preferences' and it took me to my account settings, but the favorited/ignored tags are empty.
This is just frustrating.
wait, where is that?
top right. same place favorite/ignored tags are shown, if set
I don't have it
ah, apparently it's because you don't have any interesting or ignored tags

Q: How do I remove a frequented tag?

gulbrandrWhen I logged in today I saw a new frequented tag on the right side: This causes questions having the 'android' tag to be highlighted. Example of highlighted questions: But I don't want that. How do I remove the tag? Thanks.

I don't want any highlighting, or shading, AT ALL
then add a made up, nonsense tag
it's a hack, but it should work
01:28
yeah, I know, I was going to do that after I complain on that question
frustrating that I'd have to

A: How do I remove a frequented tag?

VxJasonxVSeconding the comment by fluteflute, but it needs to be an answer. Over on Ask Different, I'm generally interested in the whole subject matter, so I do not want any highlighting nor shading of topics. The fact that I'm coerced into it now is absolutely frustrating. PLEASE make this a preference...

Technically I'm third'ing it, I think. But whatever.
-> home.

I plugged/unplugged my external speakers and that fixed my audio problem
that was weird though

8 hours later…
12:56
oh hai

5 hours later…
17:30
@KyleCronin I was going to say that I know the problem isn't inability to communicate with the sound chip, because the volume dialog doesn't behave in that manner when there is no sound device.
Glad you figured it out!

"If you upgraded, your running apps will have the glowing dot indicators you’re used to seeing in the dock. If you’re on a new Lion system, they won’t. With Apple trying to move to a persistent state/instant start app design model, these running indicators may eventually be unnecessary. For now, though, with the vast majority of apps still being designed for Snow Leopard and earlier, the lack of dots is just really damned confusing."
Huh...
22:00
I did a clean install, but I still have the dots
though it may be due to the method with which I did the install - I put my MBP in target disk mode and ran the installer on my old MacBook
very likely
I'm not sure what I think about the indication
The Dock and the ⌘-tab disagreement seems... odd.
I think they're moving towards a world where you launch everything from Launchpad
so that, by definition, the apps in your dock are the apps that are running
hmm
So, I've been using a magic trackpad all day.
When I had the mouse out yesterday, I kept changing back and forth, so I've only put the trackpad on my desk today.
is it magical and revolutionary?
It's easy to go back and forth between my work desk setup, and the laptop itself.
As if it was particularly harder with the mouse.
I mentioned that because, maybe I should shrink the dock way way down / auto-hide it.
I haven't touched launchpad once yet, except to show people it's existence.
But I've never launched an app from it.
22:08
I haven't used it a whole lot either
but I expect I will eventually, once I get all my apps loaded
I'm actually quite looking forward to being able to arrange them around
you're such a downer
might I suggest
it's hard to believe how far Mac OS X has come even just since the Intel transition
:((
yeah, no kidding
I mean, I've been here since the Intel transition. So, there's that.
22:16
yeah same here
my first Mac, my old MacBook, ran Tiger
and now it'll run Lion (though no rush on that)
my first Mac, first-gen macmini, ran Tiger. Oh the $100 upgrade to Leopard...
ah, that's right, you pay for OS upgrades :D
the only upgrade I paid for is SL
I actually payed for it twice, annoyingly
O_o
break your disc?
no, lost the original disc for my MBP
there's an odd keyboard input stutter/debounce "bug" in Lion that admittedly is getting on my nerves from time to time.
ah
22:19
I wish macminicolo.net accepted other kinds of Macs
my old MB would be great in there
mini's are just so shelf-able
true
there would be cooling issues with my MB if the lid were left closed
any problems with Sparrow?
I've occasionally had problems sending
there was one time a few months ago when it just ate my email - could not find it in drafts or the trash
and just today I tried to send some emails with attachments and they didn't go through
Pretty sure I haven't seen problems.
at least in the GMail interface I could get at the draft text, but most of the attachments weren't, well, attached
it's just kind of bizzare
sparrow doesn't upload attachments to gmail when in drafts
22:27
well I clicked "send" in sparrow
it pretended to upload for a while, and it stopped doing anything so I thought it was sent
though when I went to check in the web interface, they were't in the sent folder
they were in the drafts folder, and like I said some of the attachments weren't attached
so I just reuploaded with the web interface and sent that way
22:50
oh god, what a time to remember
burma shavé...
I swear I don't understand these deferred requests my brain fulfills.
23:35
hi, any xcode users?
only 1 user actually present
make that 2
I have used Xcode in a very very limited extent.
thanks @VxJasonxV :)
nite nite then
(No offense, @Dori :) )
@KyleCronin Ever heard of Downcast ?
@Comptrol Feel free to ask your question. If we can't answer, there's always the actual site :).
Though, now that I think about it, programming questions belong on stackoverflow.
You might actually find activity on their chat rooms too.
