@EliahKagan awesome!

12:21 AM
Dupe (not sure about what the best target is though)
@Zanna It might be better to star the message with the link. It's up to you, of course.
But speaking of the starboard, the message with the link to the feedback query is low on it. (Like, I don't see it now in my browser.) I feel like such a message should remain visible. We could feature it... or maybe just post a new one (which could then be starred)?
That can either be starred or not.
Either way, it's a recent message and I'll easily be able to find it to get to the query myself. :)

@EliahKagan hmm yeah. I tend to automatically avoid starring links if I can star an adjacent message that points to it instead because I forget what the URL is about. But in this case the message is a lot less informative than the URL XD
@EliahKagan my finger hit "delete" instead of "reopen"; happy there is a confirmation message for that! But the question had two delete votes already which sucks
@Kulfy well caught!
Haven't seen Bhargav Rao around here for too long
@EliahKagan lol

12:45 AM

@EliahKagan it isn't a bug in that program

Right. Also, if I run nano, and while it's running I run killall -SEGV nano, that causes nano (and any other of my nanos) to segfault, but that's not a bug in nano.
@Zanna Did you want to unstar the uninformative message that preceded your star? I'm not trying to pressure you into doing so if you don't want to, I'm just wondering if the system is preventing you from doing so in the usual way. I don't remember how long one can unstar after starring.
@EliahKagan This is actually useful, for example to test Apport.
@EliahKagan I'm asking because room owners can cancel stars on a message. You can feel free to ignore the question if you like because, as a room owner, you can remove the star that way yourself if you want to.

@EliahKagan it looked like a bug report question to me at first glance, but, maybe it's something to fix locally and not report, or otherwise, not something that should actually be a bug report?

If you think so, you could vote to close it with the bug sub-reason.

@EliahKagan I was not able to unstar it and I don't have room owner features on mobile (at least I can't find them)

12:53 AM
@EliahKagan The existing OT close vote is for the "not about Ubuntu" sub-reason. That's wrong. Voting to close it for the bug sub-reason is reasonable, though I'm not sufficiently convinced that it's a bug to do so myself.
@Zanna But you want to unstar it?
(If so I can do that now. I'm using a desktop browser.)

I think that would be good
Thank you!

Stars Star canceled.
The confirmation dialog box makes it look like stars are something that one does to a post because the post has something wrong with it: "Remove the stars against this post?" :)

@EliahKagan I don't think I want to vote to close it for that reason but I'm hesitating to click Leave Open so I'm thinking aloud in hope of insights :)

@EliahKagan OP agreed but I've starred that question so I can edit it when doing so won't send it to reopen. Maybe I'll find some more targets then.

@EliahKagan This question got 3 Leave Open votes from reviewers and has no remaining close votes, so it's kicked out of the reviewing queue now.

@EliahKagan Well if someone actually goes through the PEP link, they would find on their own. Moreover I expect users to know how to use python3. And there must be a another thread existing regarding that

dupe (or too broad)
dupe (or perhaps the other way around, though then I think we'd want to ask for a merge)
Maybe dupe but I think it should have a new answer (see comments) so that suggests I shouldn't be voting to dupe it.

This suggested edit, while well-meaning, worsens the wording of the post and adds bad formatting and wrong tags. It needs at least one more review.
^^^ Oh, I see. They were editing from a previous revision, and I guess they ended up submitting the edit after the subsequent edits went through. The edit is inadvertently adding back that stuff that was fixed in a subsequent edit.
I've edited from the latest revision in the revision history, further improving the post and overriding the edit in the queue. This was mainly good because I did manage to make the post better (it had text that was only in a screenshot that I transcribed). But it also had the effect of rejecting the bad edit without bringing the editor any closer to the automatic editing ban threshold.

I was wondering... are you able to use the new web-based mobile interface for SE chat? Or is your device / its software too old for that?
I had thought the new interface provides access to all the functionality of chat.
Is the tag supposed to give lang-bash syntax highlighting by default? I had thought it was, but maybe not, and this isn't highlighted.

2:28 PM
@EliahKagan I don't think that tag adds syntax highlighting

Is it just that [tag:foo] applies lang-foo syntax highlighting by default?
I've edited the post to apply syntax highlighting to it btw.

@EliahKagan oh I don't know, it looks like the old interface to me but maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. Not sure about device issues - I was using Fairphone 2 but it got stolen. Because I felt I couldn't manage without a phone I just bought a new phone without doing any research - it's a Samsung Galaxy A10. New but really cheap I guess.
@EliahKagan I should be more mindful of when to add syntax highlighting
Usually I'm only removing it
Since many, possibly most of the language related questions we get have stuff in them that is not in that language, like APT output

Yeah, I guess it would be bad for to apply lang-bash syntax highlighting automatically.

There would be a lot of incorrect highlighting for sure
But maybe people would be more aware and routinely fix it

I was thinking... would it be bad if, on Ask Ubuntu, Natty were to scan all newly posted answers, instead of just late answers?

Does it not scan all answers?
I thought Bhargav said it did

Oh, hmm.
I used to think it did but it seems to scan only what the system used to call "new answers to old questions."
Which is what it was originally intended to do:

Q: Natty - Bringing 10k moderation to All

Bhargav Rao Background and History The New Answers to Old Questions tool helps us to find all the answers added to questions which are more than 30 days old. However the issue with the tool is that it is not real time. There are requests on Stack Overflow Meta to not only make it real time but also to enh...

Other than manually reported posts, has Natty told us recently about anything posted on a new question?

I haven't noticed :/
I think it would be good if it scanned all answers

I don't know how many more messages that would be in here...
...but I think it would be good.
It might not scale well to all answers on Stack Overflow, but Ask Ubuntu is a much smaller site.

3:05 PM
The only argument against it that I can think of is that late answers probably do continue to get disproportionately less attention than other new answers on Ask Ubuntu. If the number of posts from Natty dramatically increases, that might result in less attention to the reports that are about late answers, diminishing its efficacy in the area where it is most needed.
I'm still in favor of having it scan everything though. Just if we find that the reports aren't getting feedback, then the change should be reverted.

Relating to the "alias with arguments" question duplicates mentioned above: I just noticed that my edit message here is actually terrible, because it sounds like it's claiming a difference between Ubuntu and Debian, when actually I'm claiming a similarity: askubuntu.com/posts/301003/revisions
