I wouldn't want to vote to close that question if there was any workaround etc
but I guess the link in the comments will help... and I don't think the question will be deleted

Is there any evidence to support this?

looks like something to do with postfix, not the bug mentioned
I do seem to think I've seen several posts about shutdown hanging on 17.10 so maybe there is some connection. But I don't think faint bells jangling in my mind counts as evidence...

Do you know where the other potentially relevant posts are?

Q: A stop job is running for WPA supplicant - slow to shut down

DeeBeen running Ubuntu 17.10 for a while all was fine till the other day i did a sudo apt update and upgrade. Now it takes 9.5 minutes for it to shut down.. I press esc on shut down and it shows: A stop job is running for WPA supplicant A stop job is running for Raise network interfaces A stop j...

Does it not matter what service is taking a long time to stop? In that it's WPA supplicant and other services related to starting and stopping network connections; in this it's Postfix MTA.

well my feeling is that it matters, and the things are not related; it's just a coincidence

Q: Ubuntu 17.10 require switch to tty7 while shudown/restart

Александр Авраменкоthere is something strange in Ubuntu 17.10. When I do shutdown (or reboot) the system hangs on black empty screen with cursor only. It is not tty1, nor tty7. The only way to let system shutdown is to switch on tty7 manually. After switching in 1-2 sec system continue shutdown itself normally. The...

Q: Problems with Ubuntu 17.10 on Lenovo ThinkPad E370

GeneIn the log file - 'mmc0: Unknown controller version (3). You may experience problems' and a few more error messages. Shutdown hangs for eternity. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix / workaround? The earlier version (17.04) does not have this problem.

the last comment there seems useful - connects to the first one I mentioned, and possibly to the bug report

A: kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds Ubuntu 17.10

SlartibartfastIt may well be this bug on Launchpad. A fix is promised in the "next Artful kernel release".

another thinkpad
maybe a workaround would be to stop the NetworkManager service before shutdown
so these seem possibly related and it might be a good idea to link them somehow, but I'm not convinced the Postfix one is the same yet

Q: Installing Nvidia drivers causes a very slow shutdown

a_glazed_dessertSo I'm having trouble installing and configuring Nvidia drivers. My specs are: Intel Core i5-6200U with Intel HD Graphics 520 NVIDIA Geforce 940MX Not using Wayland Using Xorg (due to Wayland not playing nicely with Nvidia cards) The first thing I did with a fresh install of Ubuntu was open ...

Ok.
Do you just want to post comments (or I can do it) or do you want to close some of them as duplicates? One has an answer that could be expanded and upvoted and the others could then be duped to it, but would that be correct?
Unreleated to that, is there enough information in the comments on this question to justify posting a CW answer about the solution, or should it just be closed no-repro the author be asked for more information because he still uses the site and visited a couple days ago, or what?
BRB/BBL but I'll check back.

@EliahKagan I left a comment. If they don't respond, we could probably manage a CW there, but I'll wait for the (non-)response before trying to figure it out (laziness)
@EliahKagan the only ones I'd feel reasonably confident about closing against the answered one at this point are A stop job is running for WPA-supplicant and this one with the useful info in the comments. Not sure how to edit the answer
this is a duplicate of Apt/Synaptic needs to reinstall package... but I wouldn't want to recommend anyone forcibly remove APT... I really need to reproduce that error so I can work out how to fix it
