NAA, though once it's deleted perhaps a comment should be posted mentioning those pages for historical interest. (The post was never an answer.)

3:36 PM
Can this accepted answer be expanded. It's really a link-only answer right now. I'm not sure exactly what it is saying to do, though.

Do we have something else for this?

should I be answering? I seem to be doing that thing in this comment
But as far as it goes it's a dupe of this
@EliahKagan that one

@Zanna Thanks. VTC'd.

me too :)

We should probably close this as a duplicate of that then, too.
I don''t know if we'll end up keeping the answer or not but this is a wrong canned comment.
I think it was reasonable for me to have made this edit. Thoughts? (Also those comments are no longer needed now, even as of the preceding edit.)

@EliahKagan I'm just not very keen on the answer to the canonical question
@EliahKagan I voted to delete that answer because I'm 100% sure it's completely useless in answer to this question

8:25 PM
@Zanna I put the wrong link in.

@EliahKagan aaah beautiful edit! :) :) :)

If you''re concerned about that answer then you may want to comment on it though.
What I should have said was, can we close both this and that as a duplicate of that one?
Or do you mean you're concerned about that answer?

@EliahKagan I didn't worry about that, I knew what you meant. I mean, although I mentioned the question and I think it's the most upvoted one about this, I don't like this answer
because we don't know that the error isn't going to be about an important package with many dependencies

Can you post an alternative answer?

I would if I knew how to solve this problem
How can I mangle my package management system horribly?

8:30 PM
@Zanna You should definitely post a question on main about that.
It might be considered too broad, though.
But it would be great to know how to create the common problems, for testing purposes.

hahaha yes

@Zanna Why isn't it an answer?

I want to know just how to reliably reproduce that particular error so I can work out a better answer to that question
@EliahKagan because I was going to vote to close as dupe...

Do you want to expand your answer there, then?

but booting the USB is only 1/16 of the battle on this particular device
the other question isn't about this device

8:34 PM
If the question you have not answered needs information to answer it that is not in the answer you have posted elsewhere and doesn't belong there, then it's probably not a duplicate.

the script I mention in the comment fixes some other things specific to the device as well as adding bootia32.efi, which is enough to boot the USB. The problem they mention is that they can't boot the USB. But I guess it would be unfair to leave them in that state

Unless the comment is mostly explaining how the answer applies (and thus contains a link to the page with the answer it's explaining), I would suspect it's not a duplicate. It may be that I don't adequately understand the situation, I guess. But questions that have the same or similar answers are not really duplicates if the entire answer has to be rewritten so that it makes sense that it applies to each one.

hmm I have to answer it I think
I have to test the latest version of the script as I should recommend that to make a more succinct answer

9:08 PM
Zanna, I do not know Meta policy. Do I provide a check to an answer in Meta the same as ASK U? Is there policy/guide for this?

@xtrchessreal you mean accept the answer?

yes, you can accept an answer if you want to :) if you received one that answers your question

Thanks, and thank for the help on the answer for which you are about to receive acceptance. :)

oh! thanks :) :)

9:21 PM
Should a question that is migrated and then closed as a duplicate really be shown as a rejected migration?

hmmm
the latest version of the script fails interestingly :(
sigh he made it so much more elaborate
but the simple script is so long. I don't want to post it all in my answer. Maybe I can simplify it

9:39 PM
when you make shell scripts shorter, they become even more cryptic :S

Can you make it less elaborate without making it denser?

sorry I'm not being clear
I'm trying to simplify the simple script. The elaborate one does things I don't understand and fails
but I have a worse problem - I don't have enough free space to repackage an iso on this system
Actually there is not much script in the script. Most of it is config files to write
it's only 207 lines... I guess I can post it (I don't need to test this one for the umpteenth time; I know it works)

Ok.
If it needs testing, I have some space. If you give me the instructions I can repack the ISO, I think.

9:57 PM
thanks :) I didn't actually change anything apart from remove the redundant else statements, so it's ok

Ok.
Is this a script that runs from a live environment?

OP posted answer...

Where?

A: Booting from usb just goes back to bios menu

Taylor AustinIm not sure if @Zanna is going to post the answer but all I needed to do is add a file to the boot drive and make sure secure boot was off. Here is the file Ubuntu on 32-bit UEFI (only) based tablet pc

I am hating writing this answer

Hating why?

10:04 PM
@EliahKagan it probably can be run in a live environment, but normally it wouldn't be. It needs ~7GB free space
hating because running Linux on the X205TA is for hardcore Windows haters. It's so much pain
or fun :)
if you like everything being broken
because it's too long and too complicated and nobody would want to do it anyway

So if I post something on Unix & Linux asking how to install Debian GNU/kFreeBSD on that hardware, will you hate answering that even more?

hahaha I will post a comment saying "see this post on Ubuntu Forums"
but it could be fun to try...

10:34 PM
Well I don't have that hardware.

I'm abandoning posting my answer for now because the script author posted a script-free guide which is up to date and seems better than using the old script, but I have to test all of it. And I was ready to sleep 4 hours ago :..(
