@Pandya hii

@Vishalprabhulawande Hi! Namaskaram

@Pandya I have a question regarding Sanyas. During Sanyas ceremony does person being initiated into Sanyas order perform the shraadh of his parents?

@Vishalprabhulawande oh! I don't know much about Sanyas Ceremony. You may refer procedure mentioned at Hidnupedia.

@Pandya Thanx Il read that

S S
@Vishalprabhulawande Yes.

6:12 AM
@SS hello. ya. from the site Pandya linked
looks like
it says "Śrāddha including to oneself"
so one's own shraadha also he has to perform?
@SS you know How Sanyasi's diet is? I heard that his assistant/servant. prepares some Morsels in plate. and sanyasi has to eat only that much. that too without touching the plate or puting hand in mouth. Is it true/
?

S S
@Vishalprabhulawande I don't know much but like you said, only small amount is served I think like a bhiksha. He should not ask for more. There is a plate/vessel. No one should touch it.
Only a small amount is served in the form of rice balls(or similar).

@SS ok. thanks :-)

Q: Can we have a suggestion for meta post "Guidelines for new users answering questions" at theanswer popup?

PandyaWe often found that answers from new users are comments/opinions/lacking sources. So, we've to introduce how to answer and Guidelines like citing sources to them. When a new user first time writes answer to a question, system popups the following suggestion: Now It would be very useful if...

^^ @SwiftPushkar @SS @Tezz

@Pandya it's nice!... but 'back them up with refrences' in but avoid section might misinform...

@Pandya - Yes , will try to answer later in the day 👍👍

@Tezz ? I didn't understand
@SwiftPushkar It's a feature request

@Pandya Oh ok.. let it go... it's not important matter...

SwiftPushkarYes the verses you mentioned are indeed pointing towards stable earth and heaven. Lets look at the verses from another translation of Atharva-Veda by ShreeRam Sharma Achrya. ,Published by Yuga Nirman Yojna. Atharva-Veda Atharva-Veda 6 .44 .1 – Rog-Nashan Sukta . @KeshavSrinivasan I read your article on sects & schools of Hinduism. Thanks again for writing it. I've some discussion regarding it.
@KeshavSrinivasan I found most of Shaiv Sampradaya reject Vedanta except Shrauta Shiva Sidhdhantin. And what about Pashupata?
@KeshavSrinivasan I noticed almost all Vaishnav Sampradaya accept Vedanta unlike Shaiva Sampradaya.

@Pandya - I think the same guy again came up with new name
0
Q: Any verse in the Vishnu Purana that insults Lord Shiva?

Surya Kanta Bose ChowdhuryAre there any verses in the Vishnu Purana which insults Lord Shiva?

@KeshavSrinivasan whenever I read information about Shaiv Sampradayas, I feel uninteresting except two sects. I can't understand why Shaiva Sampradaya are so complicated and sometimes deviated from Veda/Vedanta. /cc @Tezz @TheDestroyer
@SwiftPushkar what same guy?
@TriyugiNarayanMani Namaste.

@Pandya - Whose account was removed and asked question about SB insulting women :)

@SwiftPushkar oh! No, this sounds different person.
@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, I also noticed that Sampradayas i.e Vaishnava, Shaiva & Shakta are moreover based on Agamas.

10:45 AM
@Pandya - ok , i guessed it because he already were having 2 separate accounts one of which was removed , so he might have opened another new account. :)

@Pandya which two sects...?..

@SwiftPushkar You can look at his profile says member for 6 days.

@SwiftPushkar Oh nice answer!...👍👍👍

@Pandya - ok , secondly insult is the same word used by all 3 guys , so suspected anyway , we will keep watch :)

@Tezz Namaste. Actually I want to discuss with you regarding Shaiva Sampradayas. I think you also know much about it. Have you read Keshav's article on sects & schools of Hinduism?

10:50 AM
@Pandya Namaskaram😀😀 Yes, I have read it...

@Tezz - 😊 Thanks again , Its just my interpretation though , so may be not that accurate but tried at looking at verses and what they might really mean :)

@Tezz ok, so, most of Shaiv Sampradaya reject Vedanta right? some of them also reject Vedas or say deviated from original concept.
I discourage this type of questions. — Pandya ♦ 4 mins ago

Q: I want to know the exact explanation of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

Eesha Can any one give the exact explanation of this mantra? What is the logic behind chanting this Mantra? How the mind of a person related to this and is it true that we can save the life of a dying person if we chant this mantra for him?

@Pandya I'm not aware of any Shaiva sampradayas which directly reject the Vedas...

@Tezz ok. Btw, which are popular & ancient Shaiv Sampradayas?

11:00 AM
Lingayat (Veerashaiva) thinkers rejected the custodial hold of Brahmins over the Vedas and the shastras, but they did not outright reject the Vedic knowledge

Keshav has also mentioned Lingayats reject Vedas.

@Pandya - yeah , I read that question :)

@SwiftPushkar No, they fully believe in Vedas... I read Veera Shaiva commentary on Brahma Sutras and mostly Veda mantras are quoted there...

@Tezz - oh ok , this is quote from wikipedia , I read that sometime ago & remembered , ok Nice info

@Pandya one of the most ancient is Pashupat Shaivism... they also accept Vedas... actually among the Pashupat sutras itself... 38 Sutras are directly from Vedas...

11:03 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan one another thing I marked that no mention of Shankaracharya's Advaita in any Shaiva Sampradaya. Though you've mentioned Smartha sect separately.
@Tezz ok. wow! I'm also looking for authentic/ancient Shaiv Samoradayas and want to know more about them.
@Tezz I think you also have much knowledge regarding Shaiv Sampradayas. Can you make an article on Shaiv Sampradaya. I'm interested to hear from you! (As I've been observing you often Q/A on topics related to Shaiv)

S S
@Tezz which verse is this from Chapter 38 of Rudra samhita?
सत्येनान्येन सूक्ष्मायान्मृत्युपाशाद्भवः स्वयम् ।
बन्धमोक्षकरो यस्मादुर्वारुकमिव प्रभुः।।

@Pandya Ok I'll try to prepare after having more information... I also know some Shiva Purana and Linga Purana chapters where Guru shishya parampara of Shaivism is told... like disciples of Shiva...

@Tezz Thanks.

S S
28 or 29?

Btw, is there anyone here (or use to talk in this room) following any of Shaiv Sampradaya?

11:14 AM
@Pandya Namaste

@TriyugiNarayanMani Have you identified your Veda & Shaka?

@SS check I think it's in the chapter 'Dialogue between kshuva and Dadhichi'...
@SS yeah I just checked.. it's in verse 29...

@Pandya Yes, Veda is Sama Veda but still not clear about Shakha?

S S
@Tezz Yes. it is. I think you should add 28 verse too. Because the translation will be more meaningful if added above verse too

@TriyugiNarayanMani ok.

11:19 AM
@Pandya I remember your Veda is also Sama Veda?

S S
@Tezz hence Lord is denoted as Urvarukamiva. This is not there in translation I have. Do you have a better translation?

@SS I didn't add it because it is not related with meaning of mantra...

@TriyugiNarayanMani Yes we had discussed earlier. You remember I had asked you because our Gotra (Shandilya) and Pravar (Tri) are same :) my Veda is Samaveda & Shakha is Kauthuma.

@SS No, 'BandhaMokshakaro Yesmad Urvarukamiva Prabhu' means 'Thus as he is cause of Bandhan and Moksha he is called Urvarukamiva.'

@Pandya Yes, and I suspect my Shakha is also Kauthuma but not sure.

11:26 AM

S S
@Tezz Worship that immortal deity Lord Shiva with sacred rites,penance,self-study of vedas, yogic practices, meditation. You will be freed from the noose of Yama. The lord is the lord of Bondage and salvation.

@SS do you have above Shiva Purana?..
@SS it is better than others... although there are some mistakes in it too...

S S
@Tezz I have only english translation by motilal.

@TriyugiNarayanMani - yes , one of the reason could be that is the most prevalent shakha & others are mainly prominant is other regions like Orissa, Karnataka and Maharashtra & kerala

@SS if you want above you can download it from The Destroyers answer on Puranas.. and download from Google drive link given there...

11:31 AM
@TriyugiNarayanMani - Kauthuma shakha

S S
@Tezz Urvaarikamiva means Just like a cucumber. shiva is Not called Urvarukamiva.

@SS actually it is 'Thats why Lord (Prabhu) is denoted by Urvarukamiva (in the mantra).' ...

@SwiftPushkar Yes

S S
"You will be surely freed from the noose of Yama just like a cucumber because the lord is the cause of Bondage and salvation." This looks better @Tezz
Translation and your answer should be separated. @Tezz You are mixing them both. We are denoted with Cucumber not the lord.

@SwiftPushkar This sanskrit is wrong.

@SS - which one ? the one I have corrected ? this user is wrongly editing sanskrit shlokas , I rejected his edit and corrected at first , second time rejected by me ,
@TriyugiNarayanMani - HAVE YOU NOT SEN THE SCREENSHOT BY ME , FROM WHERE U CAME TO KNOW ABOUT HE WORDING ?

S S
@SwiftPushkar THe sacred texts site has the verses given by Anurag. But Yes. He is unnecessarily editing verses.

@SS - iNDIAN SCRIPTURES MB has given the verses , which can be seen in screenshot

12:15 PM
@TriyugiNarayanMani - Waht do you say ?

@SwiftPushkar Yes, I have not seen indianscriptures version. I have given from sacred-texts website.
@SwiftPushkar Because the link in question is of sacred-texts website.
Have you seen that?

@TriyugiNarayanMani - ok , Don't worry , I have checked the iNDIANSCRIPTURES SHLOKAS , AND ASLO checked the words for meaning , and found Sacred-text sanskrit shlokas are not correct they are spiliting the words wrongly , but you made the unwanted correctin

@SwiftPushkar Then you should have edited the link also.

@TriyugiNarayanMani - Yes i know the link given in the answer , If you click the other link given by user Gabe Hiemstra , that takes us to Indianscripture verse , look closely. And how do you know that sacred-text sanskrit verse is correct ?
7
A: Where does Vyasa say this shlokha in the Mahabharata?

Gabe HiemstraThe verse can be found in Shanti Parva chapter 110 and verse 26: यस्मिन्यथा वर्तते यो मनुष्य: स्तस्मिंस्तथा वर्तितव्यं स धर्मः । मायाचारो मायया वर्तितव्य; साध्वाचार साधुना प्रत्युदय ।। yasmin yathā vartate yo manuṣyas; tasmiṃs tathā vartitavyaṃ sa dharmaḥ । māyācāro māyayā vartitavy...

@SwiftPushkar Yes, the user Gabe Hiemstra had used sacred-texts website for Sanskrit and indianscriptures website for English
@SwiftPushkar Now look at the comment hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/18696/…

12:46 PM
@Pandya Yes, that's true. And that fact had major historical consequences. When the Vedanta school became the dominant school of Hindu philosophy after the time of Adi Shankaracharya, sects of Hinduism that rejected the Vedanta school dwindled in popularity or went extinct, whereas sects of Hinduism that accepted the Vedanta school maintained their popularity or became larger.
@Pandya That is the reason why there are so few philosophical Shaivites in the world, as opposed to philosophical Vaishnavas who are extremely common.
@Pandya No, Pashupatas rejected it. I know of only two tiny groups of philosophical Shaivites who accept the Vedanta school. First of all there is the tiny sub-sect of Shaiva Siddhanta known as Shrauta Shaiva Siddhanta, and there is a tiny sub-sect of Lingayats who believe in a philosophy called Shakti Visistadvaita. But most Shaiva Siddhantins and definitely most Lingayats reject the Vedanta school.
@Pandya That's why it's so difficult to find Shaivite commentaries on the Brahma Sutras. I posted a question asking for them here:
1
Q: How many Shaivite commentaries on the Brahma Sutras are there?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, by far the most popular school of Hindu philosophy is the Vedanta school, which bases its tenets on the doctrines laid out in the Brahma Sutras, a work by the sage Vyasa that summarizes and systematizes the philosophical teachings of the Upanishads. You can read the...

@Pandya By the way, you don't even need to put the word almost. I don't know of a single Vaishnava sect which rejects the Vedanta school. Even the Vaikhanasas, who place more emphasis on doing rituals than on high-minded philosophy, still subscribe to a Vedantic philosophy called Lakshmi Visistadvaita.
@Pandya Haha, why do you find them uninteresting? And what are the two Shaivite sects you don't find uninteresting?
@Pandya Yes, almost all sects of Hinduism today subscribe to some set of Agamas.
@Tezz Only a small sub-set of Lingayats subscribe to Sripatipandita's commentary on the Brahma Sutras. Most Lingayats reject the Vedanta school, and some even reject the Vedas. It's just like you shouldn't judge Shaiva Siddhanta by the small number of people who believe in Srikantha Sivacharya's commentary on the Brahma Sutras.
@Pandya Well, most Smarthas have Shiva as their Ishta Devata. But as far as philosophical Shaivites go, the only philosophical Shaivite I know of who believed in Adi Shankaracharya's philosophy of Advaita is Appaya Dikshitar. He simultaneously believed in Advaita and Shrauta Shaiva Siddhanta.
@Pandya The most ancient Shaivite sect is Pashupata. Other Shaivite sects like Shaiva Siddhanta evolved out of Pashupata.

@Tezz @TheDestroyer @KrishnShweta @SS @SwiftPushkar @AnuragSingh @Pandya

@Pandya We have two Kashmiri Shaivites on the site, @RakeshJoshi and @Aghori. We also have one Lingayat on the site, but he's not an active user.

S S
@RakeshJoshi Yes. That youtube channel has a good collection of stotras.
I like Shivatandava stotram from that channel.

@SS yes with your grace

@RakeshJoshi :D . Why my grace?

1 hour later…
2:36 PM
@SwiftPushkar my wifi router got damaged due to thunderstorm yesterday night 😞, so can't chat or be hyperactive until i get new router.
@Pandya i think lingayats only rejected (misinterpeted) caste system of veda.

2:51 PM
@TheDestroyer There are Lingayats who rejected the Vedas because they disagreed with the caste system. In fact a lot of Lingayats don't even consider themselves Hindu. They consider themselves analogous to Buddhists and Jains, i.e. philosophies that grew out of Hinduism but are not part of Hinduism any longer.
@TheDestroyer Oh, was your Wifi router on the roof or something?

@KeshavSrinivasan My ISP technician said it could be due to transfer of excess energy from pole (hub) to my router.

@TheDestroyer Whay kind of Internet do you have? Cable, DSL, or what?

@KeshavSrinivasan fibre optic cable.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok. So the technician thinks that there was a power surge into your router?

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes. Even my friend once had same problem.

2:59 PM
@TheDestroyer You should buy surge protectors. Most of the devices in my house are plugged into surge protectors.

@KeshavSrinivasan There's MCBs installed at the mains usually but they might have a higher Amperage to break than individual surge protectors

@KeshavSrinivasan I think Thunder can break anything. For some reason, Indra Deva was angry with me. :P

3:38 PM
@RakeshJoshi Nice.

@TheDestroyer Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, i also missed my weekly Shiva Puja.

@TheDestroyer Oh, you do a weekly Shiva Puja?

@KeshavSrinivasan Yep. Every Monday after sunset.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok. I don't do any Pujas, only my Mom does Pujas.

3:43 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, i also missed another chance of Pradosham today.

@TheDestroyer The only thing I'd do is Sandhyavandhanam.
@TheDestroyer You can see my Sandhyavandhanam ritual here: samskaaram.com/…

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. I know.

@TheDestroyer Outside of Sandhyavandhanam, pretty much the only thing I chant on a regular basis is Periyalwar's Thirupallandu. That's one of the poems of the Alwars.

@KeshavSrinivasan I thought tomorrow was pradosham as yesterday was Ekadashi. But today is pradosham. Missed 13th day.
@KeshavSrinivasan Ok. You can chant Sanskrit mantras. i think they are more effective.

@TheDestroyer Sandhyavandhanam includes tons of Sanskrit mantras. See the link above.

3:49 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Not Sandhya vandanam. For regular basis or daily while working.

@TheDestroyer Well, Sandhyavandhanam is done three times a day, so that's plenty of chanting on a daily basis, haha

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh.. you do three times?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, there's Pratah Sandhya at sunrise, then Madhyanikam in the middle of the day, and then Sayam Sandhya at sunset.
@TheDestroyer And by the way, if you miss a single day, or even if you miss one of the three times in a day, you have to do Prayaschitta.

4:27 PM
@TheDestroyer -😮 OK , I was wondering though ⚡🌩 🔌📦

@KeshavSrinivasan what scriptures say it? Dharma Sastras and Smritis?

@TriyugiNarayanMani @KrishnShweta

@SwiftPushkar yeah. Me too. I was shocked. But some bad karma. But shouldn't show any reactions for good or bad karma. Trying to be a "Sthitha Prajna".

@TheDestroyer Yeah, it's described in countless Dharma Shastras.

@TheDestroyer - 😀😀 That's right thing u r doing , 👍👍 after all we can't do anything , nature is do much powerful that we have to obey it.

S S
4:38 PM
@TheDestroyer's hammer is back. :B

@SwiftPushkar Karma Yoga is best thing, but difficult in initial stages. But being a Sthitha Prajna is best thing (though one can't become like that easily).
@SS Hail. Airtel 4G.

@KeshavSrinivasan - BTW , I was wondering Is ISKON treats Mahabharata same as SB.I mean they give much importante to SB. Noticed that though.👍

@TheDestroyer - Yeah right & sometimes situation also forces us to become Sthita-Pradnya. So god also gives us lesson's in our day to day lives , but we ignore that part.👍👍

@SS Thor is my favorite super hero.

4:43 PM
@SS -Thor ⚡🔨😊👍👍

S S
@TheDestroyer Oh! Do you like loki too?

@TheDestroyer - I like the gatekeeper of Thor's city ,who is blind and transports them anywhere , forgot his name though

@SS Not as much as Thor.

S S
This is to inform that TheDestroyer's hammer has been named as Mjolnir

@SS Did you see latest trailer? That is bad. How can someone escape Thor's hammer?

4:47 PM
But don't you people think that somehow his position is similar to karna? Not bad totally but victim of Aham ,Lobha & Avidya , disrespecting elderly .of loki
@SS - 😀😀 but what is his hammer , i think moderator GUI is his Hammer@TheDestroyer

S S
@TheDestroyer Yeah. It's a comedy trailer
Music is poor too

@SS I think Thor is equivalent to Indra. true?

@TheDestroyer - Yeah according to western Indologist

S S
In Norse mythology, Thor (/θɔːr/; from Old Norse Þórr) is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing and fertility. The cognate deity in wider Germanic mythology and paganism was known in Old English as Þunor and in Old High German as Donar (runic þonar ᚦᛟᚾᚨᚱ), stemming from a Common Germanic *Þunraz (meaning "thunder"). Ultimately stemming from Proto-Indo-European religion, Thor is a prominently mentioned god throughout the recorded history of the Germanic peoples, from the Roman occupation of regions of...
That's a yes according to norse mythology

@SwiftPushkar Well, they consider the Bhagavatam to be the greatest of the Puranas and the key to understanding the Brahma Sutras. But they consider all Smritis including the Mahabharata to be valid scripture.

@KeshavSrinivasan - Ok , I think Krishna Bhakti , leela & Charitra is very well reviard in SB , that could also be one of the reasons, But a little doubt - How can they understand Brahma-Sutras from SB , Upanishads can be ..
@TheDestroyer - Yes clear answer is provided in second one , only wording is different in both questions , but actual enquiry is the same 👍👍
@KeshavSrinivasan - OR are they interpting BS from SB?
Ok guys , Going to sleep now 🌛 BYE GN , TC 🌬 May goddess of sleep shower blessing on all of you @KeshavSrinivasan - Good Afternoon to you & have a rocking day ahead 🎸🎼

5:15 PM
@SwiftPushkar They think that when you understand it properly the Srimad Bhagavatam is actually a commentary on the Brahma Sutras.
@SwiftPushkar Yeah, they use it to interpret the Brahma Sutras.
@SwiftPushkar Good day for me, good night for you :-)

@KeshavSrinivasan - 😯 I didn't knew this , yeah SB is like Xerox copy of BG & Upanishads or condens version of them.But this BS thing is new to me , i will look at it from that angle also 👍👍
@KeshavSrinivasan - But there are certainly various angles to SB , We get those from repetation.And each repetation revele a new dimension to us. BTW this fact is applicable to all scriptures more or less though.
BYE 😊👍👍

5:32 PM
@SwiftPushkar Look at what Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says in this chapter of the Chaitanya Charitamrita: vedabase.com/en/cc/madhya/25 "Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam gives the actual meaning of the Vedānta-sūtra. The author of the Vedānta-sūtra is Vyāsadeva, and he himself has explained those aphorisms in the form of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam."
@SwiftPushkar And then he quotes a couple of verses that are apparently from the Garuda Purana: "The meaning of the Vedānta-sūtra is present in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. The full purport of the Mahābhārata is also there. The commentary of the Brahma-gāyatrī is also there and fully expanded with all Vedic knowledge. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the supreme Purāṇa, and it was compiled by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His incarnation as Vyāsadeva. There are twelve cantos, 335 chapters and eighteen thousand verses."
@SwiftPushkar Chaitanya Mahaprabhu refers to the Bhagavatam as Vyasa's "nija bhashya" or his own commentary on the Brahma Sutras.
