Q: Why women are not allowed to attend Funerals

GaneshWhy are women not allowed at the shamshan ghat ? Can they perform the final rites of their parent if she is only child to their parents ?

Is it?
Because, I went to shamshan ghat at the time of my Grand parents.
I have seen many other Hindu females there of other families for the same purpose(of their own) .
@KrishnShweta I think it depends on place where you live...
@Tezz Hmm... also maybe caste?
I am not aware of any scripture forbidding it...
@KrishnShweta may be.....
@KrishnShweta ok.. actually caste depends as per Karma (Guna)....
@KrishnShweta what are you doing?.. How is the weather there...?...
07:29
@Tezz Yeah......... About gunas Destroyer and Keshav told me.
@Tezz It's cloudy.
@KrishnShweta I think this has no religious reason. On Manikarnika Ghat, you can see many females attending funerals.
@KrishnShweta oh it's very sunny here...
@TheDestroyer True.
@Tezz To be precise Varna. Caste is man made. Varnasrama Dharma was given by God.
@TheDestroyer yes,... but as people don't know the term Varna... we have to use them as synonyms...
07:33
@Tezz yeah.
@TheDestroyer @Tezz I think it's our right to go there because those are the last moments when people spend with the one they have lost.
@KrishnShweta yes, I think it's Naisargika Adhikara...
And the one thing I want to know...
@KrishnShweta jivatma takes new body eventually during 13 or 15 days. Then with new body around Subtle body it either goes to Heaven or hell.
@TheDestroyer I'm watching Shiva ancient alien video... they are making battery from Agastya Samhita...
07:37
@KrishnShweta those days are important for Jivatma as it takes new body. We do Pinda Pradanam.
@Tezz Yeah. They make battery from Agatysa Samhita. But they say Agatysa learned this from "Alien" Shiva. they also give more emphasis Kailasanatha temple at ellora.
@Tezz BYW, i visited Ellora caves last year and saw depictions of Shiva and Parvathi on hills.
@TheDestroyer yes, I watched that too...
@TheDestroyer I think there are 32 caves... isn't it..?
@Tezz Also, watch "Cosmic Egg" and "Visionary" Episodes.
@Tezz haha. Don't know. I just went there to click photos. I didn't have much interest on them at that time.
Yesterday I was watching one old movie in which one women lost her husband so her in-laws were forcing her to cut her hair totally. So is this now-a-days going on in some castes?
@KrishnShweta I first time heard this case...
@TheDestroyer what do they show on cosmic egg...? Hiranyagarbha?...
@Tezz This was common practice in India. I think this is to make widow look less beautiful during Mughal era to avoid rapes, even Sati was practiced till 1800 due to Mughal atrocities.
@Tezz No i didn't watch that Egg episode.
07:44
@TheDestroyer oh... it may be due to that...
@Tezz Hindus were persecuted and this is biggest genocide in History of world.
@TheDestroyer didn't they make video upon Lord Vishnu...?
@Tezz Who?
@TheDestroyer how many were persecuted... apprx..?
History channel (who)..
@Tezz Don't know exact number. Min 10 lakhs at that time.
Persecution of Hindus refers to the religious persecution inflicted upon Hindus. The persecution of Hindus was carried out through forceful conversions, massacres, demolitions and desecration of temples, destruction of universities and schools, and targeting monks and Brahmins in massacres. Although Hindus managed to maintain their majority in rest of the regions in India, this led to killings of millions of Hindus and a deep social impact on concurrent Hindu customs and rituals. The most important Hindu power to emerge in the prolonged Islamic rule was the Maratha Empire founded by King Shivaji...
@Tezz No. I think. They even say nuclear reactors are like Shiva Linga.
@Tezz I heard this long ago.
07:48
Omg... 10 Lakhs...
@Tezz Did i say that all jyotirlingas form fibonacci series.
@TheDestroyer in the comment section some were writing human sacrifice by cern in front of Shiva... what is that? Do you understand?..
@TheDestroyer yes, you had told before...
@Tezz That is hoax. They preformed mock sacrifice before Nataraja Statue.
@Tezz They want to demean and make Hinduism bad.
@TheDestroyer so... why they have kept Nataraja StAtue there?..
@Tezz Baba Atomic centre gifted it to CERN as Shiva's Cosmic Dance has connection to creation and destruction of Universes.
@Tezz We gifted to CERN.
@Tezz I saw the original Video.
@Tezz Pure hoax.
07:52
@TheDestroyer original video of which..?
@Tezz mock sacrifice.
@TheDestroyer so they shouldn't have kept Nataraja statue too.. if they want to demean Hinduism...
Or they were performing PurushMedha sacrifice..
@Tezz This is not related to CERN Scientists. Some narrow minded people did that.
07:54
@TheDestroyer oh ok...
Lol. i doubt they would ever know that sacrifice.
@Tezz BTW, does Kala Bhairava accept Human Sacrifice?
@TheDestroyer btw in Purushmedha sacrifice also Human is made ready to be sacrificed... but at last moment his life is spared...
@TheDestroyer I don't think any God will aceept Human Sacrifice....
@TheDestroyer where did you heard Human Sacrifice given to Kals Bhairava?...
@KrishnShweta btw... which movie it was?..
08:13
@Tezz In movies they do sacrifice before Kali using black magic.
@Tezz it's Prem rog
@Tezz Yeah. Shiva doesn't accept.
@TheDestroyer they show anything in movies... they follow left hand of left handed path...
@Tezz Did you watch
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a 1984 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the second installment in the Indiana Jones franchise and a prequel to the 1981 film Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and followed by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008 respectively, featuring Harrison Ford reprising his role as the title character. After arriving in North India, Indiana Jones is asked by desperate villagers to find a mystical stone and rescue their children from a Thuggee cult practicing...
@KrishnShweta ok.. so its Love Disease.. hehe..
08:14
@Tezz haha. Even in many Telugu movies villains try to sacrifice humans.
@TheDestroyer No,I haven't watched it...
@Tezz They portrayed Hinduism and India in bad way.
@TheDestroyer one human sacrifice I know is in story of VikramAditya..
@Tezz Villagers believe Lord Shiva sent those Americans to save them.
@TheDestroyer in that film?...
08:17
@Tezz Yeah.
@TheDestroyer ok...
Actually Shankara stone (looks like BanaLinga) goes missing and villagers think it is bad omen. And they think these Americans will recover that Shankara Stone. But that was stolen to appease Shiva and Kaali.
@TheDestroyer who had stolen it..?
@Tezz one user thought this was real story and asked a question
2
Q: Origin of the Shankara legend?

Meir IlluminationThe film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is based on a lot of lurid and sensationalist stereotypes about worshippers of Maa Kali and Sri Shiva. However, the central plot conceit is based around a supposed legend of "Shankara", who met Sri Shiva on top of a mountain and received five stones t...

@Tezz Amresh puri who follows vamachara and black magic.
@TheDestroyer oh by Shankara you mean Adi Shankara... I was thinking about Kailaspati Shankara ...
08:22
@Tezz Shankara is Shiva only. Shankara stone looks like Bana Linga.
@Tezz Read wiki description.
@TheDestroyer but that five lingas giving story is related to AdiShankara...
@Tezz This is pure fiction and no connection to Adishankara. I think writer may have taken idea from that.
@Tezz I know that story.
@TheDestroyer ok...
08:27
@Tezz You watched Bahubali right?
@TheDestroyer yes, I watched...
When is Part 2 coming...?
@Tezz Next year April 17
2017 April 17?...
@Tezz Yeah.
@Tezz Magadheera is also good movie. It is based on reincarnation. Hero's past life name is Kala Bhairava. They are devotees of Shiva and Kala Bhairava. But love part makes the film somewhat boring (for me).
@Tezz He is Knight in kingdom.
It's Magadheera... I think... @TheDestroyer
08:32
@Tezz Yeah. you watched it?
I have watched it more than 5 times..
@Tezz ohh.. good.
@TheDestroyer Did you watched Rudramaadevi?...
@Tezz No. I'm waiting for print to download. :P
@TheDestroyer they show very nice Naaga Vyuha and Garuda Vyuha....
And Naaga Vyuha being engulfed by Garuda Vyuha...
08:35
@Tezz Ohh.. Actually Gona Ganna Reddy is crucial part for Rudrama Devi kingdom. They are warriors.
@Tezz Ohh.. I will watch.
@TheDestroyer is Gona Ganna Reddy actual historical figure?...
@TheDestroyer I watched it during Previous year Deepawali...
@Tezz After fall of Kakatiya Kingdom (Rudramadevi Kingdom), Reddy warriors made a kingdom in Andhra knows as Reddy dynasty. They ruled Andhra for 200 years. I belong to same caste. We are once warriors and then peasants.
@Tezz Pure History of telangana state where @KrishnShweta lives.
@TheDestroyer so a lady was dressed as male.. it is also history?...
@Tezz Yes. She was raised as boy because people wouldn't accept female as ruler,
@KrishnShweta did you watched Rudramaadevi ?...
@TheDestroyer oh... I didn't knew it was based on actual history...
08:40
@Tezz Warangal or Orugallu was capital of Telangana.
@TheDestroyer did you watched Mohenjodaro?..
Warangal pronunciation is a city and the district headquarters of Warangal district in the Indian state of Telangana. It is also the mandal headquarters of Warangal mandal in Warangal revenue division. As of 2011 census of India, the city had a population of 811,844, making it the 2nd most populous in the state. Warangal is one among the 12 heritage cities in the country chosen for Scheme HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana by Government of India. It is also selected as a smart city in the "fast-track competition", which makes it eligible for additional investment to improve...
@Tezz It was defeated by Delhi Sultanate.
@Tezz No. I saw reviews and they told movie was utter waste of time.
@Tezz funny things is name "Mohenjadaro". It has bad meaning.
@TheDestroyer haha...
Mohenjodaro is name of civilization...
@Tezz How was the movie?
What bad meaning does it have...?
08:44
Mound of the Dead in Sindhi language.
@TheDestroyer it's somewhat like waste of time... based on western indologist concept....
@Tezz Did they show Pasupata seals?
@TheDestroyer yes they showed..
@Tezz ok. Bollywood is killing history of India and Mythology.
But they only call it as seal... not Pasupati seal..
08:46
@Tezz Was it Shiva seal ?
@TheDestroyer in news it was that Hritik Roshan fled due to loss in that movie...
@TheDestroyer yes, It's Shiva seal... but some indologist debate....
@Tezz where did he flee?
@TheDestroyer I don't know... I read on Kantipura due to that director is suffering loss of 12 Lakhs per day...
@Tezz haha. Why did they select mohenjadaro at fiirst place? It is very difficult to make such films.
@TheDestroyer actually the fim was of 140 crore...
I think it earned about only 100 crores...
Loss of about 40 crores...
08:55
@TheDestroyer @Tezz sorry for the late reply.
@Tezz if you are interested, watch Through the wormhole series by Morgan freeman. It has some interesting episodes on Consciousness much like our Hindu concepts.
@KrishnShweta haha.. No matter..
I rarely watch movies. And Rudrama Devi, I didn't watched.
Sorry for the uneducated question but is true that classic Hinduism view of time is like a cycle that repeats every year, but each repetition leads to decay instead of better things.
That meaning that something is perfect the moment it is created, and gets worse with time
@Tezz I was just asking if you are using. It's a business/social network.
08:57
I see this get quoted on several places, mostly from Alan Watts talks
@KrishnShweta oh yes.. you told before you rarely watch movies...
@Tezz They even say that the world is illusion much like Advaita.
@VladimirVasilev welcome to the chat room....
@VladimirVasilev Yes. Like entropy.
@VladimirVasilev I don't understand your question... however perfect creation takes place in nexy cycle... see my answer here...

Q: Where does Rig Veda states about Cyclical Nature of Creation?

TezzIt is a common belief in Hinduism that the nature of creation is cyclic. Continuous creation and destruction happens in certain intervals of time. Most of such ideas are found in Puranas and also in Bhagvad Gita. But do the Vedas also state about Cyclical nature of Creation? I've heard there is ...

@VladimirVasilev and it doesn't repeat in every year...
It takes billions of year to repeat...
@VladimirVasilev but still doesn't repeat exactly like present... slight deviations takes place..
For eg. Ramayana which was before present Ramayana was different slightly... It's explained in Padma Purana...
@Pandya what can we do on that?...
09:03
@VladimirVasilev Creation and destruction take place continuously. Brahma creates Universe, Vishnu preserves it and Shiva or Rudra destroys it and then Brahma again creates it.. this is never ending cycle. Whatever once created must get destroyed. that is ultimate law of nature.
@Tezz you can connect/follows people/groups and vice-versa, read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LinkedIn#Membership
@Pandya oh let it be then... I don't have even Twitter account also... as social networking Site I use only Facebook... and Viber..
@TheDestroyer Why is it then that I see a lot of worshipers put offerings to the Gods (also meanwhile requesting things for themselves)? Doesn't it defeat this idea since anything is going to get destroyed
@VladimirVasilev people don't commit suicide knowing that they will die one day... same case...
@VladimirVasilev Some people think Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are allegorical. People interpreted Vedas (main books of Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma) and we have 6 schools in Hinduism based on how people understood Vedas. Some say Logic is best, Some say devotion is best.. etc..
09:07
Btw, how about this? should I accept the answer? @Tezz @TheDestroyer
@Pandya although it may not exactly answer question you may accept...
I meant that giving offerings and requesting something means you want to make an impact and change the world. Doesn't this bring more Karma to you (doesn't matter good/bad) and bind you more to this world
You can change accepted answer if you find better answer than that...
@VladimirVasilev Yes. But people are interested in this world. They have desires. desires make sometimes forget the ultimate fact that one day universe is destroyed. To escape from karma, we have a thing called MOKSHA. Liberation.
@VladimirVasilev yes, requesting other than Liberation certainly binds... but people want to enjoy this world...
09:10
I've not read any Samhita part of Veda (except Isha Upanishad) and hence I don't know whether Dharma is defined in Samhita. That's why I'm unsure.
@VladimirVasilev Moksha is mingling with eternal consciousness. No karma. No birth and no death. Actually according to Advaita, world with creation, preservation and destruction itself is not real.
@Tezz Have you read any (of four) Samhita part of Veda?
@VladimirVasilev Everything is Maya.
@Pandya by the way... I'm confused whether I should accept your answer or not.. I have upvoted it... but yet not accepted... hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/11250/…
@Pandya I have read various parts of Samhita like Vishnu Sukta and Rudra Sukta of RigVeda, Nasadiya Sukta, Purush Sukta of RigVeda, Sri Rudram, Bhu Sukta of Yajurveda, Adhyatma Sukta, Skambha Sukta, Kaala Sukta and Kaama Sukta of Atharvaveda..
@VladimirVasilev Nirguna Brahman is pure Consciousness. It is eternal and exist from infinite time. (Actually it is very difficult explain all that here. You can read Questions and answers here.
09:14
@VladimirVasilev There is neither dissolution nor creation, none in bondage and none practicing disciplines. There is none seeking Liberation and none liberated. This is the absolute truth. [Gaudapada Karika Chapter 2 verse 32]
@Tezz Yes I can understand that it is difficult to judge the part of Bhagavad Gita by Arjuna and specially by others like Dhritarastra etc...
@Tezz Good!
@TheDestroyer @Tezz Disclaimer : I have only really basic knowledge of Hinduism. I've read more about Buddhism, and the devotion part of Hinduism is what I don't understand. In Buddhism you "try" (confusingly without trying) to get rid of desire and the roots that cause it.
While in my view of Hinduism the sacrifices/offerings/daily praying contradicts this viewpoint since it expects results from the actions
@VladimirVasilev if you are interested in Advaita part you can read my answer here:...
5
A: According to ShankarAchArya in Advaita, is the universe "unreal" or "unworthy"?

TezzThere is a common popular misconception in People that according to Advaita World doesn't exist at all. It is not true. When we are deciding reality of things as per Advaita. Then, Advaita itself gives three level of reality to us: 1)Paramarthika Satyam/ Absolute Reality level 2)Vyavahar...

And also here:..

Q: What is the Position of Maya(illusion) as per Advaita doctrine? (Or According to Advaita is Maya superior to Supreme brahman?)

Vishal prabhu lawandeAs per Advaita school of Vedanta; living entity is identical to supreme brahman. Advaitins generally interpret 'Aham Brahmasmi' as 'I'm supreme Brahman'(please correct me if i'm wrong). We are Brahman but right now covered by ignorance(Maya). so my question is 1.Does that mean Maya is superior...

@VladimirVasilev Yeah. They want to live happily (but they live only temporarily) by doing these rituals. But fact here doesn't change. They will die one day and will be born according to Karma.
@VladimirVasilev "While in my view of Hinduism the sacrifices/offerings/daily praying contradicts this viewpoint since it expects results from the actions." This is explained by Law Of Karma... If they do ritualistic action they should get fruit of their action...
09:19
@VladimirVasilev We can act wisely here. If we do these rituals and offering and at same time if we try for Moksha, we won't get birth again and even we live happily till our death,
@VladimirVasilev We don't have concrete philosophy here. Many sages expanded their consciousness and understood some speck of Ultimate truth and made them available. There are many philosophies in Hinduism. Definitely, Brahman (Supreme God) is beyond our mind.
@Tezz @TheDestroyer But then again it seems that rituals are kind of a loophole where you can "farm" 100% good karma (because if you wish for some better life for yourself, there is always the risk that this clashes with another person's life in a bad way, in this way generating negative karma).
There's also the powerplay part - if you're a part of the eternal consciousness, why do you need to sacrifice food that you can enjoy, in order to give it as a gift to the representations of this consciousness (i.e. again - yourself)
@VladimirVasilev what you are evaluating is only part of Hindu philosophy... and what people most follow...
@VladimirVasilev among six school of Hinduism... Sankhya says there is no god..
@VladimirVasilev State of mind also plays a important role. Simply, taking dip in Ganga with pervert mind won't make anyone a saint nor Shiva is a fool to forgive him.
Mimamsa says Gods of Vedas are only Allegorical... and Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas are fictional...
@Tezz Yes I understand. I have the same problem with chinese buddhism where people go and worship Buddha by sacrificing insence/food and expecting good things to happen to them
09:26
Most of people (including Wikipedia) write it as Samkhya (instead of Shankhya). I also think why they do not write Shankhya because it's pronunciation is Shankhya like Shankara. What do you think @Tezz
@VladimirVasilev yes, Very few want Nirvana among present Buddhist... thats why Vajrayana Tantra in Buddhism got developed to fulfill desires in this life...
You take a heavy spiritual framework, take its idols and start offering things to them, which seems nothing short of mindless idolizing
@Pandya I don't know why they write it... haha...
@VladimirVasilev They are not simple Idols. We invoke Consciousness into it.
@Tezz Do you write Shankhya every-time?
09:28
@VladimirVasilev
Prana pratistha refers to the rite or ceremony by which a murti (image of a god) is consecrated in a Hindu temple, wherein hymns and mantra are recited to invite the deity to be resident guest, and the idol's eye is opened for the first time. This ritual is practiced in the temples of Hinduism and Jainism. The ritual is considered to have infused life into the Hindu temple, and brought the numinous presence of divinity and spirituality to the Hindu temple. According to Gavin Flood, "A ritual of consecration in which the consciousness or power of the deity is brought into the image awakens the icon...
@VladimirVasilev what you think idol is Pure consciousness in absolute sense... this is core concept of Vedas...
@VladimirVasilev see my answer here:

Q: Kali and Kaliyug

Arunachala KarthikWhat is the connection between Kali and Kaliyug? Kaalii is the goddess that takes the darkness away (Kali) but which scripture does it come from? And is there an explanation of the close connection of the the two words? Thanks

@Pandya no, I sometimes write Samkhya and Sometimes Sankhya..
@VladimirVasilev Non Hindus have no knowledge or misconception about Idol worship.
@TheDestroyer @Tezz Thanks, it more or less cleared it out for me
@VladimirVasilev ok... if you have any confusion in Hinduism... you can always ask question here...
@VladimirVasilev by the way which religion do you practice...?...
@Tezz Actually none, in the post-soviet block we had a forced atheism
09:32
@VladimirVasilev Western Science wants to validate all things by Senses: by seeing, touching, hearing. but most powerful weapon is mind. Nothing can beat mind. And God is beyond mind, that's the problem, we can't understand Him/Her/It completely.
@Tezz My father is a daoist, and I started reading about Buddhism mostly in the last two years
@VladimirVasilev so people can't practice religion there...?
@Tezz This is because of communism i think.
@Tezz the official one is orthodox christianity but it's broken down to only going to church 1-2 times a year and lighting a candle for the dead
@VladimirVasilev actually you can practice Hinduism or Buddhism just by mind only also...
For eg... Yoga in Patanjali Yoga Sutra means "Controlling fluctuations of Mind"...
You can begin with Yoga practices.. controlling mind...
09:35
@VladimirVasilev Even true teaching of Jesus are not followed now-a-days. Church is killing true teachings of Jesus.
@Tezz yeah I know. The problem with Hinduism is that it's really hard to get the core concepts easily - the amount of written text is really immense, while Buddhism is trending in the west and there are more sources that can give its ideas synthesized to you
of course, there's also the barrier of actually understanding them
@VladimirVasilev Yes. It took 2 years for me to understand but still i have lot to study.
@VladimirVasilev Buddhism and Hinduism are similar in many concept... like Concept of Samsara, concept of Karma, concept of reincarnation, divinity of Omkara, non-eternity of Brahma,... etc...
@TheDestroyer Weird enough this view starts to crumble even in the west.
@Tezz That the only valid method of exploring the world is by the scientific experiment
@VladimirVasilev which view?...
09:39
@VladimirVasilev view on church? According to some Kashmiris Hindus, Jesus learned teachings from Hindu Sages. Some modern Hindu sages do accept this.
@VladimirVasilev At that we don't have name for Hinduism. It's simply called Dharma or Sanatana Dharma.
@VladimirVasilev yes, it is one of the Valid method... but not the only valid method...
@VladimirVasilev Yeah. But Science is limited to sense organs. It is also one of the ways.
@VladimirVasilev finally every people will come in path of sprituality... some should take many births to achieve this...
Sorry people, when I rerun what I wrote in my previous lines I kind of seem like an angsty atheist. The problem is that I like Hinduism since it's really close to Buddhism (not trying to start and egg'n'hen argument here). Even just aesthetically it's worth to study. But it's really hard to get started on it in my country - I don't know any Hindu people, and also Ayurveda is kind of a fashion trend here so this also prevents me
@VladimirVasilev even i was atheist like you turned to theist after studying Hinduism. It is very close to science. I mean recent advances in Physics.
09:45
For Buddhism there are nicely synthesized books - e.g. "Mastering the core teachings of the Buddha" that are really informationally dense and can explain in 200 pages the core features
@VladimirVasilev we don't have any problem with atheist also.... one can only believe in God if God wants him to believe in him... and he becomes athiest if God wants it...
@VladimirVasilev

A: What is the relationship between Hinduism and atheism?

Be HappyAtheism is not the pillar of Hinduism, but only a part of Hinduism. Moreover, the term nastika (atheist) means different in Hinduism than its usual meaning. Generally atheist means a person who doesn't believe in God, afterlife, etc. But in Hinduism atheist means a person who doesn't accept the a...

@VladimirVasilev actually Buddhist Tripitak are also large... They are as 12 times voluminous as Bible...
See this answer you know difference between Atheism in other religions and Hinduism.
@VladimirVasilev actually present day Physics is = Vaishesika School of Hinduism minus Soul...
There is no God... Atoms only do everything... in it...
@VladimirVasilev for eg. They even formulated Gravity in their doctrine... see my answer here:
7
A: Are there any references to Gravity in Hindu Scriptures?

TezzDue to the dominance of Vedanta school in present time, Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) is often seen only in the light of Vedanta. If we go with respect to doctrines, Vedanta is only a small part of philosophies of Sanatana Dharma. Sanatana Dharma is mainly represented by six philosophies like Vedan...

10:01
@Tezz Thanks, now I have a lot of things to catch up on
@Tezz can you recommend me something short that explains the concept of Maya and Brahmin in Hinduism
@VladimirVasilev ok... You are welcome...
@VladimirVasilev Brahman or Brahmin?
@VladimirVasilev it's not Brahmin its Brahman
...
@Tezz Typo, sorry
@VladimirVasilev well you can read Gaudapada Karika...
@Pandya give link... I think you have...
10:04
@Tezz I tried reading Bhagavad Gita, but what confused me there was that it explained a lot more about war than spiritual parts
@Tezz for Gaudapada Karika?
@Pandya yes...
@VladimirVasilev you can also read Avadhuta Gita... it's really short... but interesting... It was composed by Lord Dattatreya...
in Hinduism, Jun 8 at 5:57, by Pandya
I've searched; you can read it (in English) from http://www.swamij.com/upanishad-mandukya-karika.htm or Sanskrit-English book is available at https://archive.org/details/Gaudapada-Karika.English
@VladimirVasilev here is Avadhuta Gita:
@Pandya I couldn't see what you wrote...
@Tezz Does @VladimirVasilev believe in Advaita?
10:11
@Pandya yes, because he is interested in Buddhism... which also states World is illusion...
@Tezz that was not but the link for Mandukya Karia that's already written
@VladimirVasilev isn't it?
@Tezz Btw, have you completed Aparokshanubhuti?
@Pandya No, I haven't read it yet...
10:15
@Pandya presently I was reading Vaisheshika Sutras and Mimamsa Sutras...
Though I think I can answer it, I've just revised very old question by including term Advaita (Because at the time of posting question, I don't know Advaita Exactly!)
@Pandya so you should answer it...
@Tezz @Pandya I had to google it but yes. And thanks for the book, I will read it the following days
@VladimirVasilev ok... all the best...
@Tezz I think let give chance other (Advaitin) to answer. You're also welcome to answer which can help other people to understand such terminology (According to Advaita)
10:27
@Pandya aren't Avidya and Ignorance same?...

14:05
@KeshavSrinivasan I had read your question... but I have no idea who are being referred to...
@KeshavSrinivasan Maybe Avadhutas are being refrenced...
@Tezz I think Avidya is individual ignorance.
@TheDestroyer so you mean there is another Universal ignorance....
@Tezz No. Avidya varies with person to person.
@Tezz Well, give me exact definitions.
@Tezz I read them in Yoga Vasista and a Autobiography.
@TheDestroyer Avidya varies from person to person... but at present situation due to our infinite births the Samskaras of Avidya in our mind is so deeply rooted that nearly everyone has same level of Avidya... so we think Avidya as real...
As we think we get Pramana from others...
@Tezz Well, but I've never heard of Brahma founding a sect of Avadhutas. And it doesn't describe the Visaraga Yogis being naked or transgressing rules of society or anything like that.
14:17
Eg. We say He also sees apple as round... She also... They also... Now if some transcendent comes and states it is formless... people think he is mad... because a bunch of people with same level of Avidya are in agreement... and they refer each other as Pramana..
@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know why are they called Visaraga Yogi... who will keep the name of own sect as Visha Raaga...
@Tezz What does Visaraga mean?
@Tezz It could be a pejorative name given by others.
@KeshavSrinivasan Visha means Poison Raaga means Jealousness...
@Tezz typo error I wanted to say, "let me give".
@TheDestroyer ok... no problem...
@Tezz Oh ok
14:22
@KeshavSrinivasan or it's for Vamamargis?
But it also has no connection with Brahma...
@Tezz The mortifying the body part sounds like Jainism. But then again, the Visaraga Yogis do devatarchana, i.e. Puja of statues, as a substitute for meditation, so they can't be Jains.
@KeshavSrinivasan how Brahma established Ashtanga Yoga?...
@Tezz By the way, interestingly earlier on the Vaikhanasa Dharma Sutras classify Saranga Yogis into two subcategories: bad Saranga Yogis who follow Ashtanga Yoga, and good Saranga Yogis who follow only six of the 8 Angas.
@KeshavSrinivasan which 2 Angas do they condemn...?
@Tezz "There are diverse kinds of cults, O royal sage, that go by diverse names such as Sankhya, Yoga, the Pancha-ratra, Vedas, and Pasupati. The promulgator of Sankhya cult is said to be the great Rishi Kapila. The primeval Hiranyagarbha, and none else, is the promulgator of the Yoga system. The Rishi Apantaratamas is said to be the preceptor of the Vedas, some call that Rishi by the name of Prachina-garbha." sacred-texts.com/hin/m12/m12c049.htm
@Tezz Niyama and Asana are condemned, I'm not sure why.
14:32
@KeshavSrinivasan Condemning Aasana is actually Deva Ninda... Vishnu is in sleeping position in specific Aasana... Mahadeva is in his own Aasana in meditation... Brahma in his own Aasana... Raama is also referred as Padmasanastham many times....
@Tezz Well, it doesn't say anything about the Asanas of the gods, it just condemns Asana being one of the Angas of Yoga.
@KeshavSrinivasan ok...
@Tezz Here's what it says about Ashtanga Yoga: "Those who follow the wrong path, whilst bringing into practice the 'eight members of Yoga' viz. yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharma, dhyana and samadhi, go against even (the God) on whom there must be contemplation."
@KeshavSrinivasan I don't understand how they think one can do Pranayama, Dhyana and reach Samadhi without sitting in Aasana....
@Tezz Yeah, it's weird. I also don't know what they have against Niyamas.
14:40
@KeshavSrinivasan yes Niyama just means self purification... how can one have problem with self purification...
@Tezz Vaikhanasas are strange, haha
@KeshavSrinivasan haha... now I'm fully convinced Vaikhanasas are fully strange....
@Tezz By the way, you may be interested in the Vaikhanasa Dharma Sutras' discussion of Ekarshya Yogis. It talks about Pingala Nadi and the middle of the eyebrows and all that.
@KeshavSrinivasan how much old texts are "Vaikhasana Dharma Sutras"...?
@KeshavSrinivasan so do they condemn Ekarshya yogis or not....?
@Tezz Wikipedia says "Surviving Vaikhanasa sutras are no older than the fourth century CE." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaikhanasas
@Tezz No, they don't say anything negative about Ekarshya Yogis, they only condemn some Saranga Yogis and all Visaraga Yogis.
14:49
@KeshavSrinivasan so what do they tell about Nadis Chakras... can you give me pdf...?
@KeshavSrinivasan so if Wikipedia dates it 4th century AD then it is as old As Mahabharata (at least)... because the before sentence in wiki says Narayaniya is not older than 3rd century AD....
@Tezz Well, but Western Indologists can't be trusted to get even the order of events right.
@KeshavSrinivasan that's what I'm saying...
@Tezz Here is the part of the Vaikhanasa Dharma Sutras discussing Yogis: gdurl.com/0nZp
If Wikipedia says it's before 7th century AD... then there is very high chance that ... that text is actually BC...
@Tezz And here is a PDF containing all the Vaikhanasa Sutra texts if you're interested: gdurl.com/dQOe/download
14:55
@KeshavSrinivasan oh thank you for that... now actually I can add some points to the answer... .... Is Kundalini concept Alien to Vaishnavism?...
@KeshavSrinivasan aren't there Pancharatra Sutras like Vaikhasana Sutras?....
@Tezz No, unfortunately there aren't. The Pancharatra Agamas originate from the Ekayana Shakha of the Shukla Yajur Veda, and the Vaikhanasa Agamas originate from the Vaikhanasa Shakha of the Krishna Yajur Veda. The Ekayana Shakha is completely lost, whereas the Vaikhanasa Shakha is only partially lost. It still has its Sutra texts intact.
@KeshavSrinivasan so it means There were Pancharatra Sutras but they were lost?...
@KeshavSrinivasan I think Vaikhasana criticizes Vedanta school... Is it..?
@Tezz Yes, there must have been Sutra texts associated with the Ekayana Shakha, but they're lost. Even in Yamunacharya's time the families associated with the Ekayana Shakha were using the Katyayana Grihya Sutras because they had lost their own Grihya Sutras.
@Tezz No, Vaikhanasas believe in the Vedanta school. I posted a question here about the Vaikhanasa commentary on the Brahma Sutras:
1
Q: Is the Vaikhanasa commentary on the Brahma Sutras available in English?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this answer, one of the early movements that was important in the development of Vaishnavism was the ancient Pancharatra movement, whose sacred texts consisted of detailed procedures to worship the sage Narayana, an ancient incarnation of Vishnu. Since the Pancharatra texts origin...

@Tezz The commentary was written by Srinivasa Dikshitar, the chief priest of Tirupati who gave that Srimad Bhagavatam quote I discussed in a recent question.
@Tezz What is true is that Vaikhanasas pay more attention to rituals, construction of idols, etc. and they don't spend as much time focusing on Vedantic philosophy compared to mainstream Vaishnavas. But they still believe in Vedanta.
16:01
@KeshavSrinivasan ok... Thanks for information....

@TheDestroyer - Yes , just little correction " जन्म" 👍
17:25
@SwiftPushkar @Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan To whom Swamiji gave reply in patriotic question?
@TheDestroyer I found something relevant to you in the Vaikhanasa Grihya Sutras: gdurl.com/h5Wi It's about rituals you can do to be able to do Upanayana if you've crossed the age limits.
@SwiftPushkar I didn't see this mistake.
@SwiftPushkar i copied from this question.

Q: Is 'Janani Janmabhumischa Swargadapi Gariyasi' wrongly attributed to Rama? Is it even part of Valmiki Ramayana?

sv.Unlike what I've heard from many before, it doesn't look like Rama is the one who said this shloka; instead sage Bharadwaja says it to Rama in a different setting (Bharadwaja ashram and not Lanka). मित्राणि धन धान्यानि प्रजानां सम्मतानिव | जननी नन्म भूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी || ६-१२४-१७ ...

@TheDestroyer I think he gave reply to Amit Saxena...
@KeshavSrinivasan Thanks. I will see that.
@TheDestroyer - in my post , i typed it , not you :)
17:28
@SwiftPushkar Even valimiki ramayan site has spelling mistake. They have "na" instead of "ja".
@TheDestroyer - जन्म = birth , ohh its janma
@SwiftPushkar yeah. I know. In telugu we use janmam for birth. birthday is janma dinam.
It uses नन्म । it's just spell mistake....
@TheDestroyer - yes , it's mistake on the site , sorry :)
@Tezz yeah. Typo mistake.
@SwiftPushkar No problem. I should have seen it.
