The Nature of Svarupajnana is as follows:
1) It is self luminous and its nature is knowledge
2) svarupajnana possesses Pratyaktva i.e., subjective self illumination

@LakshmiNarayanan I don't remember too much about Dharmabhuta Jnana and Swarupa Jnana, but yeah that looks right. Dharmabhutajnana is how you get knowledge of the world around you and Swarupa Jnana is the knowledge of yourself.

The relation between the two is that Dharmabhoota jnana when triggered, triggers both awareness of identity of dharmabhoota jnana and the knowledge of the object of desire as well as pratyaktva.

Now, my hypothesis is that when this attributive knowledge or DBJ is triggered, it doesn't distinguish between Atma as object and atma as subject since it lacks pratyaktva! Therefore, svarupajnana when seeking knowledge of another atma results in Pratyaktva in the atma that is the object of observation as well and triggers awareness of DBJ in the object atma! @LakshmiNarayanan But Atmas can't detect each other at all. You can't use perception to obtain knowledge that someone else's Atma exists.

@LakshmiNarayanan I don't quite understand what you're saying. You seem to be saying that Atma A can use its consciousness to detect Atma B, and then Atma B will somehow be able to find out that it's being detected. But how will Atma A detect Atma B in the first place?

@LakshmiNarayanan From what I remember Dharmabhuta Jnana is about detecting matter, not detecting Atmas.

@LakshmiNarayanan If Atma A perceives the body of Atma B, how does Atma B perceive that the body that he is associated with is being perceived?

@KeshavSrinivasan because of the activation of DBJ which is an attribute of all atma and pervasive in its illumination, atma recognises DBJ. Atma B thus, perceives that DBJ is triggered without cognising an object which means that DBJ is due to another atma's cognising.

@KeshavSrinivasan In any case, the book says this as well, "Though Svarupajnana and DBJ are luminous by themselves, they are capable of being apprehended by other forms of knowledge which are endowed with attributes like being eternal"

@KeshavSrinivasan since DBJ is both eternal and pervasive, I think trivially this statement applies.

@LakshmiNarayanan I think Dharmabhuta Jnana doesn't extend to subtle matter for a person in Samsara. But like I said, I don't remember that much about Dharmabhuta Jnana and Swarupa Jnana.
