@SreeCharan Oh ok. Yeah, I also know it as Sadari primarily. I've never heard anyone say Sadagopam or Sadagopuram in real life.
@KeshavSrinivasan I know sadagopam, sadari. But Sadagopuram.... I am not sure. Soda menas ego. kopam- anger. Sadakopan one who has overcome the ego by anger on it. (by a huumkara). Sada-ari- Enemy of the ego. What is the meaning of Sadagopuram?
@TheDestroyer Shata means the vital air. By which the baby in the womb which is realized and conscious forgets everything. Nammazhwar conquered the shata. Hence he conquered the ego, hunger etc., . He did not weep when we was out of the womb. He did not eat anything and speak for 16 years. He spoke his first words after 6 years when Sri Madhura kavi azhwar came up to him.
@Tezz @TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan There was some other person who conquered the maya. I couldn't recollect the name. Who is he?I have read it in some upanishadic story.
@Tezz The three oldest surviving commentaries on the Brahma Sutras are Adi Shankaracharya's commentary, Bhaskara's commentary, and Ramanujacharya's commentary.
@KeshavSrinivasan when is of Srikantha Bhasya.. ?..
@SreeCharan his name is Svetasvatara...
@SreeCharan what is Bhaskaras commentary... (ie. Which philosophy?)...
@SreeCharan or you might be thinking of Vamadeva as described in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: "I-iv-10: This self was indeed Brahman in the beginning. It knew only Itself as, ‘I am Brahman’. Therefore It became all. And whoever among the gods knew It also became That; and the same with sages and men. The sage Vamadeva, while realising this (self) as That, knew, ‘I was Manu, and the sun’. And to this day whoever in like manner knows It as, ‘I am Brahman’, becomes all this (universe).
Even the gods cannot prevail against him, for he becomes their self. While he who worships another god thinking, ‘He is one, and I am another’, does not know. He is like an animal to the gods. As many animals serve a man, so does each man serve the gods. Even if one animal is taken away, it causes anguish, what should one say of many animals ? Therefore it is not liked by them that men should know this.
@Tezz Srikantha Shivacharya's exact time period isn't known, in fact we know very little about him. We just know he lived after Ramanujacharya and before Sripati Pandita, the Lingayat commentator on the Brahma Sutra Bhashya.
As I discuss in this question, by far the most popular school of Hindu philosophy is the Vedanta school, which bases its tenets on the doctrines laid out in the Brahma Sutras, a work by the sage Vyasa that summarizes and systematizes the philosophical teachings of the Upanishads. You can read the...
@Tezz Not much is known about him. We know he was a Tridandi Sanyasi, which is what Ramanujacharya was. He wasn't an Ekadandi Sanyasi like Adi Shankaracharya.
Not just Chinna Jeeyar Swami, but all Sri Vaishnava Acharyas carry these three sticks. They are called the Tridanda, and they are carried by those who have taken up Tridandi Sanyasa, which is the type of Sanyasa that Sri Vaishnavas follow. The appearance of Sanyasis in general is described in t...
@Tezz By the way, Gaudiya Vaishnavas interpret the Brahmavaivarta Purana's prohibition of Sanyasa during the Kali Yuga as only prohibiting Ekadanda Sanyasa, not Tridanda Sanyasa.
@Tezz By the way, there were other commentaries on the Brahma Sutras between Adi Shankaracharya's time and Ramanujacharya's time, but they're now lost. For instance Yadava Prakasha, who was Ramanujacharya's guru before Ramanujacharya became a Sri Vaishnava, wrote a commentary on the Brahma Sutras written from the viewpoint of Svabhavika Bhedabheda, which is different than Bhaskara's philosophy of Aupadhika Bhedabheda.
@Tezz And of course there were tons of commentators on the Brahma Sutras before the time of Adi Shankaracharya, as I discussed with you earlier:
@Tezz @Pandya You two may be interested in this quote from a Mimamsa work called the Prapancha Hridaya, listing various pre-Shankara Mimamsa and Vedanta commentators: "The Mimamsa Shastra is contained in a text of 20 chapters. Of these, the first 16 chapters constitute the Purva Mimamsa. In this Mimamsa Shastra, the Purvakanda deals on issues of Dharma, and is compiled by Jaimini. The last 4 chapters constitute the Uttara Kanda or the Uttara Mimamsa and are compiled by Vyasa for dealing with the nature of Brahman. On this Mimamsa Shastra of 20 chapters, Bodhayana wrote a Bhashya that bore t…
@AmitSaxena I follow Shiava Philosophy where everything can be viewed as union of Male and female. All females are aspects of Supreme Prakriti Adi Shakti and All Purushas are amsas of Supreme Purusha Shiva. Similarly, Soul is Purusha and insentient matter or prakriti is feminine. So, i believe homosexuality as meaningless and mere disorder. If you give me any authentic and proper sources of Sanatana Dharma with proper interpretations supporting it and then I have no problem with homosexuality.
@TheDestroyer Shaiva to advaitan. మార్పు మంచిదే :D
@SreeCharan i started reading Hindu scriptures with Mahabharata and Ramayana but abridged by Sri Rajagoapalachari. But later after coming here read Shiva Purana as i had no knowledge about Shiva. I felt shiva very interesting and intriguing.
@SreeCharan No more now. I stopped completely taking debates with them. Also, i think there are no such fanatics now.
@SreeCharan I learned most of Advaita from Yoga Vasista. It says everything is Maya. I liked the narration of Yoga Vasista. Later, learned from Swami Vishwananda's answers and Tezz answers too.
@SreeCharan But these philosophies shouldn't be taken seriously. If we adhere to them, we forget about God and try to indulge in debates which i feel there is no use. A devotee can follow the path he likes but if anyone sticks to philosphy, he/she will try to demean other philosophies which is dangerous.
@SreeCharan heard for first time. I think he is mentioned in Vedas.
@TheDestroyer What? Philosophies help to realise God easily. This is what I understand. There is no need to demean other philosophies. Just I don't accept other philosophies.
@TheDestroyer Yes.Prathah sandhavandanam. Madhyahnikam if time permits.
@SreeCharan it's fine if it helps to realize God. But, let's see what ISKCON does. It demeans Parameswara and Parashakti. How does their philosphy support it? ISKCON is cult. I went to ISKCON Temple in Chennai, a Swamiji called Shiva "Rascal". I stopped visiting ISKCON thereafter. You can also see this behaviour on online sources.
@TheDestroyer Upanayanam has become a nominal thing for many people even in Brahmin community. Many perform upanayanam just before few days before marriage.
@SreeCharan kakunuri Suryanarana murthy said there's no use in Upanayana if it is performed after 23 years.
@SreeCharan Also, my mom said our families won't wear any scared thread. We celebrate "Panchela Panduga" instead of Uanayana. But i don't get any spiritual reason behind "Panchela Panduga".
@SreeCharan I also mailed Sri M, who met Mahatavar Babaji. Even he didn't reply. I don't want to irritate them by sending mail multiple times. I generally do that if anyone doesn't respond but they being Acharyas i don't want to irritate them.
it is very hard to find the pran pratishta and stapana mantras online.
i have asked pundits in my area they are not willing to give the mantras saying
that only brahmans are qualified to do the sthapanas etc. told them i was a brahman but not a kramkandi yet.
What is purpose/reason of using Thiruman katti for making Urdhwapundra or Namam, What is relation of Thiruman to Shriman Narayana? How is it holy clay?
@TheDestroyer "I was bit afraid after knowing Tvasta Story.".... haha... I'm also all aware that I'm doing wrong when I chant Sri Rudram (as without initiation)....but I still chant it... because I believe I earn more Punya from chanting it.. then the sin I occur it by chanting without being initiated....
@TheDestroyer while chanting Sri Rudram we prononounce name like Rudra, Bhava, Sarva Pashupati etc... and these names are powerfull to overcome any negative effects generated through mantra.. More importantly Sri Rudram also contains "Namaha Shivaya."...
@TheDestroyer Shiva Purana says that when one chants name "Shiva" just once in a lifetime then also he earns more merit then all the sins he can do for his lifetime (don't take it as a license to commit sin haha..)...anyway the point is Such powerful is the name of Shiva... that we need not need to fear...
@TheDestroyer and moreover Shiva can directly understand our intentions... Rudram is not like other Vedic mantras like Indra Suktas.. ir chanting of Tvashta... Shiva is Paramatman who is directly seated in everything. Yajurveda says "Yo Rudro Agnau Apsu Yo Aausadhisu Yo Rudro Vishwa Bhuvanavivesa Tasmai Rudraya Namo Aastu"... ie. "The Rudra in the fires, in the water, in the plants,... salutations to that Rudra who has entered the whole world."...
@TheDestroyer furthermore you can also pronounce the names of AshtaMurty "Rudra, Sharva, Pashupati, Ugra, Ashani, Bhava, Mahadeva, Ishana.".. pronouncing these names can remove any sin... Even Prajapati removed his sin by pronouncing these names in Vedas....
@TheDestroyer also remember the statement of Adi Shankaracharya "The commandments and prohibitions of scriptures are applicable to men in ignorance who live with the deep-rooted conviction that their body is their self. In the case of one who has realised even here that the Self, which is called 'he', is without all contacts and is the relationless
and eternally pure spirit-of one who is established in this supreme teaching of the Vedanta-the commandments and prohibitions of Sastras' have no application.
@TheDestroyer anyways... these all above is just my Personal Analysis...😊😊
@SreeCharan @Tezz btw, i got wierd dream day before yesterday. I saw earth falling into ocean. I also saw movement (falling down) of earth among different galaxies. LOL...I thought to see Adisesha and Vishnu on ocean, but suddenly thought i couldn't see as it was staying on earth and should have been killed. And i woke up.
I say do it. Why?
Because you lose nothing, and gain a lot
People on beta sites tend to lose interest after a while - there seems to be a natural drive to get the 'beta' label off the site. It almost feels like a bad thing, and people start asking what they need to do to get rid of it. More imp...

@TheDestroyer Once I have seen a dream in which I went to a temple. I went to the topmost floor of a temple. there, a pisacha got hold of my neck and starting to push me to the ground. But then I realised that ghosts are afraid of Hanuman and I started to chant the verse "Anjaneyam mahaveeryam .......ramadutam namamyaham..." But it tried to stop my voice by holding it tightly when i took the name of Hanuman. Then I shouted Lakshmi Narasimha as louder I could.
@KrishnShweta @TheDestroyer All this time, I was falling from great height. Hearing the name of Narasimha swamy, the ghost disappeared. I fell down with my feet landing. I didn't experience any pain or got hurt in the dream.
@SreeCharan same thing happened to me in dream. I was sitting in bsck seat of car and all doors and windows were locked. I was suffocating. Then i started shouting Shiva and name of my kula devata, Ankamma. But i realized it couldn't be true and i woke up.
