I personally find it a lot easier to vote down than to vote up, at least for answers. I'm not an expert in most fields of Islamic study, so it's really hard for me to tell when something's actually correct and/or useful in most cases. But it's often super easy to tell when someone's just speaking without knowledge.
Which is unfortunately way too many people.
For questions, i can be more lenient. the sad truth is that "low-effort and easily researchable" is about the bar where too many lay-Muslims are stuck these days, in part because of how much conflicting information there is out there nowadays.
i probably wouldn't upvote them unless i did my own cursory research through Shaykh Google and still couldn't find anything conclusive.
but if i downvote a question, it's usually because it demonstrates such a severe lack of critical skills that i honestly doubt they'd even be able to understand any answer we give them.
which often overlaps with people reading some garbage anti-Islamic blog post and letting themselves get confused by whatever rhetorical fallacious nonsense they were fed.
but honest questions by people who were just never taught the fundamentals of the religion, i think those still have a place here.
