Q: wordpress theme install failing

codeomnitrixI am trying to install wordpress theme on my site, but is failing with message Could not copy file. catch-responsive/404.php Folder permissions are as - ftp user is owner of the whole wordpress folder permissions are set as 755 for the wordpress folder When I start theme installation, it dow...

Did you try to upload the theme manually via FTP? You can upload the zip file and then create a PHP script to unzip it.
Yes I tried manuallyl uploading with ftp account (which i am trying for wordpress) and its working fine
OK, so if it is working fine, what's the problem?
I am not able to install automatically via wordpress, I mean from ftp I can install but from wordpress itself i can't
Is it possible that the upload_max_filesize PHP settings is set to a value lower than the file's size?

Its set to 20MB
Hi Yoav
Hi there
Hey Yoav
What is the size of the zip file?
actually i think there is small confusion with question
the zip size is just 800kp
*kb
Lol... OK, so it's not that

I am trying to install via wordpress add theme option but I am getting error as screencloud.net/v/6zRz
however I have logged in with that user on my aws server and there I am able to do anything on the wp-content directory
Please have a look at the permissions screencloud.net/v/wacp
Hmmm... interesting
Just wondering, if you remove this specific file from the package, does it let you upload?
Also, try setting the permissions of wp-content to 777
I tried
didn't work
Is this a theme that I can download from somewhere?
05:28
yes let me give you the link
btw small update in upgrade folder only folders are created no files there
have a quick look at this screencloud.net/v/ri3J
I am sorry but I am new to wordpress
Shouldn't this go into the themes folder?
I was able to install it, so that rules out a theme issue. It must be related to file permissions.
Sorry, but i'm not sure what you are trying to do. If you were able to upload it manually, why do you want to upload it using WordPress?
I want to do it automatically, coz everytime manual upload is difficult
also same issue happens with plugins
I am not sure if I have cleared my doubt properly
let me ask it differently -
I am trying to install a theme via wordpress screencloud.net/v/xjr5
here when i click proceed it creates a folder in upgrade directory
with the theme name
This is not how you install themes in wordpress
I am sorry
I mean thats the standard process na
Honestly I haven't seen this screen before, and I've been working with WordPress for years...
05:38
Ok over here on this screen I click install button
You are suppose to go to Appearance->Themes and then click on "Add New"
and it goes to the screen screencloud.net/v/xjr5
yes I am there only yoav
The last link didn't work (for the screenshot)
Do you want to give me access to your site? It might be easier for me to see what's going on
05:41
hmm sure
let me check for the password
username - root
password - marmadarch0d
OK, I see. It looks like WordPress don't have permissions to create new files in the system. Do you have access to the server configuration, or is this a shared hosting?
its aws
OK, I found this:

Q: WordPress on EC2 Requires FTP Credentials to Install Plugins

AnthonyI just installed WordPress 3.5.2 on an Amazon Linux AMI EC2 micro instance. When I tried to install the wp-db-backup plugin (Plugins -> Add New), I was prompted for a Hostname, FTP Username, FTP Password and Connection Type. The answer to this question recommended that passwd be done at the comm...

the complete file structure with permissions screencloud.net/v/r4cm
This is a known issue. Take a look at the question, they have the explanation there I think.
This is only in AWS. I have never experienced this before.
05:48
but the owner is already the ftp user
I think you need apache to have access
Because this is not usually done through FTP. It is only done through FTP since apache doesn't have access.
there is no user named apache
apache is the server
I mean to say when I run this command sudo chown -R apache:apache /var/www/html
it says no user named apache
I see. Honestly I don't know how amazon run their servers
Did you try to add define('FS_METHOD', 'direct');
05:54
Ok great its done
thanks a lot yoav
