18:00
i ended up getting chicken biryani and onion bhaji and paneer pakora
I exclusively use Windows 3 as my OS
@question_asker I had dinner half an hour ago and I am feeling hungry again after listening to this menu.
you should eat those things
@GordonAllocman Shift and click the refresh button, that's a total reset, not just a refresh.
@question_asker I have certainly eaten paneer pakoda and onion bhaji. But not chicken biryani.
18:02
it's kheyli khoshmaze
but the biryani I get from the cart is better than the one I'm eating now
ttyl...have the food first.
@feelinferrety didn't do anything, but good to know in case I have to do that in the future
(ctrl-shift-R also works if you, like me, are too lazy to move your mouse)
facepalm
If you open developer tools in chrome (F12) and right click reload, you can empty cache and hard reload all in one go
18:08
q_a I would have said that, but from Gordon's previous response, I assumed he's got some custom shortcuts going on
@Will :O As someone who uses the inspector every damn day, HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS
lol
If you ever did web page QA, you'd have figured it out, eventually, I promise =D
I'm a developer at a small firm. We don't QA. We just push and wait for complaints. XD
Yeah, my new company doesn't have QA - it's a bit odd, but I check what I do anyways, so my goal was always to make there be n othing for QA to find.
in chrome dev tools, there's also a setting to disable cache when dev tools is open
Seriously though, almost everything works in all modern browsers, and our contracts say we don't support anything older, so meh.
Can i haz upload... btn?
OH, it only works when empty.
IGNORE ME.
18:12
Doing the empty cache hard reload does not cause the icon to change btw

Did you guys plan this?
hahaha
@manshu @question_asker
q_a's pic could also work to the left of Will's
Now if we could just get f" to speak in some order with them
18:14
I suppose I should leave, f"" should leave and rejoin
I should probably get a pic ...
It's not join order, it's post order
er no nevermind that won't do it
Me and Will together would be funny
It's actually activity order - joining puts you to the front, as does posting something or editing something (proof)
18:14
lol
Yeah, that.
hahaha
quick manshu, talk
what
18:15
why
ha
cr0
cr0
ha
xD
Did you see what feelinferrity commented, manshu?
@Will, @feelinferrety, @cr0, All your base, are belong to us?
18:15
@Khale_Kitha ofcourse I did. ;)
@Khale_Kitha XD XD XD
excellent work today everyone
Woo! Stars :3
4
@question_asker Agreed. Now shut up so I can get real-world work done.
@feelinferrety no
18:17
:P
It needs 3 stars, to match his emoticon.
There we go
B'awww, thanks guys
don't increase the number of stars on that message now
3 stars looks great for that
That's like telling people not to upvote something that already has a score of 69 or 666.
18:18
You said don't increase
ROFL, and someone added one as I put mine back
HAHAHAH
dammit
oops.
Looks like I was a trend setter
18:19
:P
Fk me, I'm losing it over this stupid star battle
STAR WARS
I posted a screenshot of my "recent transactions" to instagram the other day because it was $69.69
who is playing stars-stars?
...As i put a star on feelinferrity's img link, then have to click it to find out what I starred.
18:21
gahhhh why is istock being a b*tch today
being a BTech?
three threes
B*Witched
@Will that's what I was talking about at that time
18:21
Does that work like flickr, or is it all just stock images that some arbitrary person puts up?
It's run by Getty, so they're quality
ah
watermarked?
Then again, it looks like it's a sub site, so probably not
@Will And now this has 3 stars. My work here is done. 8)

18:24
3meta5me
I have soooo many pictures with the name "sdfsdfsdf"
lol
See, that's why I have a printscreen tool that puts all images in a folder and autonames them - and I set the folder to show me things by modified date =D
@manshu Time to start naming them lkjlkjlkj
I used to have one of those, then it stopped working. Now I use Lightshot.
My hand doesn't reach that far.
Maybe I'll delete some of them. :p
18:26
@manshu How far can this go?
@manshu when I'm not naming my files "poop_ass" or similar, I'm naming them asfqwfq
2
Yeah, I just use Gadwin Printscreen (the new version is trash - just don't), because it's lightweight and works, nicely
my screenshots are all named [email protected](1)

just to asdfg...and as my little finger doesn't type too much, so leave the "a" as well
a famous man once told me that he liked my song but was annoyed that he had to publicly praise something called "fartsong two"
I have a problem, in my brain
18:28
DAMMIT I CAN'T LEAVE NOW
I seriously have to launch this website today
Places laptop into rocket Turns key Presses 'Launch' button
I gotta leave now..I have to wake up in five and half hours if I sleep now (which I prolly won't).
Hacks website and places picture of Launch, from Dragonball, all over it Website Launched.

18:30
good luck manshu! I almost typed 'good lunch manshu'!
hahaha
Good launch, manshu!
lmao @ "launched"
thanks
hahahahaha, manshu's picture just dropped off the sidebar, only to be immediately replaced by manshu's picture
@manshu You keep using this word. I do not think it means...what you think it means.
18:32
it's the chatroom version of just staying within the confines of a revolving door
haha
Manshu is our Austin Powers
Thank god there is nobody in the open-space part of the office but me
f''
f''
the entire sidebar is from the last 20 minutes
I have had so many unexplainable outbursts of laughter this afternoon
18:33
Haha, true, f"
Good thing I'm WFH today.
I get the notification and what the duck I see.
Okay, lunch ordering time. That description of the pakora and bhaji and biryani has inspired me.
I work within delivery distance of Chicago's IndoPak area. :D
I really want to know the "real" answer to the graph puzzle
Which one? If it's been posted in the last 2 days, I've not gotten to it yet. u_u
I have a plastic bag answer for you...
The answer is red, because he copied his answers from the teacher's key.

Q: A case of academic misconduct?

cpjA friend of mine is a professor at a nearby university. Last week, he gave three of his students a simple assignment: conduct an experiment (all three of them separately and independently from each other), and record the development of a single value over time. And indeed, a few days later, all o...

@Khale_Kitha lol
the only decent answers tend to make assumptions about where exactly the data points lie
and they might be the intended answer, but... unless the puzzle tells us, there's no reason to make that assumption
Judging by recent comments....hmm
The numbers may be arbitrary
these new clarifications are weird
18:47
I wonder - did I ever change my strange profile text?
hah, nope
@BenBraun given the clarifications, it seems strange for him to say "well they're all integers except yellow has some x.5 values"
Maybe the key is trying to figure out what that "single value" is
So I think I made some progress on that opposites question, but I still feel no closer to an actual answer :/
Might not be a number, but something actually observable
Yeah, saw it, just now, Gordon
@Khale_Kitha That was my original assumption
18:49
Stands to reason, at least, since he says this is an experiment they're monitoring
and that was the reason I answered the way I did (though I'm not convinced of my answer - it definitely sets that dataset apart from the others, but it's not enough to make me actually suspicious)
Though this puzzle is annoying...
The added clues make me think this might end up being a "d'uh" puzzle, when it's done.
the graph puzzle?
this puzzle makes me want to do another look alike
18:51
Clearly, I can't prove it, but still
I like the concept of this puzzle and I think there's a lot of cool ways to do it
haha
yeah
I agree
I liked deusovi's idea, the other day, about rehabing old "looked cool but ended up sucking" puzzles
One thing to note...
All of the lines go up, down, up, down, etc...
Except that...
Blue ONLY goes up, down, up, down, etc
And red/yellow both have a repeated direction, at least once
yeah QA gave this as an answer
I think it's one of the better answers floating around but the question asker didn't like it
Ah, never saw the update - haven't looked at the questoin recently
18:54
wouldn't it be red?
theyre all lazy people
yet red recorded his data at perfect intervals
I wondered that, too, Wesley
Red did more measuring
yeah
the other ones would forget to record data
I think this is a missing-information puzzle
like
I think that seems reasonable, Wesley
He's the only one with exact intervals
had anyone posted that solution? theres so many answers i dont want to read through them all lol
18:56
there are too many potentially correct answers (and also, note that the actual question is vague - "which student OR STUDENTS would this professor maybe think about calling into his office and why")
Tab Alleman did
yes that was posted, something about red having very consistent measurement intervals
but it hasn't been responded to
I'm surprised there aren't any too broad CVs on that one tbh
18:56
A lot fewer people can VTC now
@Will to be fair, I don't think it was obvious that it was too broad until just recently
I think the answer is a combination of Tab's and f"'s.
Red is cheating as he picked numbers from 0-36 and placed them, randomly, at a perfect interval through the whole experiment.
But really - without knowing what the experiment is, we can only speculate.
I don't understand all the energy getting put into this puzzle
a lot of info is missing - we didn't even know that a) the values were integers (except for some of yellow's) or b) that integer values weren't suspicious until we were told
19:00
I gave up on it a long time ago, but q_a dragged me back - closed it again :P
all of the lines are different in their own way
it's a "guess what I'm thinking" situation
Especially since we don't even know that only 1 student cheated
2 or 3 could have
19:01
in which case. "He calls all three of them in, because he told them to monitor the height of a flower over a month's time, and they gave random numbers."
THAT is explicit in the question, that it could be zero or all of the students
he doesn't call in any of them because he's just as lazy as they are
As I toss on that new puzzle before someone tries to brute force it anyways. LoL
f''
f''
@Khale_Kitha there are places where blue's line goes in the same direction twice, they're just hard to see
Since the answer is: 650+68782+68782==138214
Between the 4th and 5th vertex?
I wasn't sure
f''
f''
19:06
yeah, that line is bent
f''
f''
also there should be one near the right that's actually two segments with the same slope
Then Tab(iirc?)'s answer is most likely given the current information (combined, possibly, with yours regarding 0-36), imo
f''
f''
8-11-14 just looks like 8-14 with no number in the middle
Is it bad that I just got a random, amusing, idea for a puzzle from one with -10 votes in the review queue?
19:17
@f'' Where are you getting the values from?
(question_answerer, you watching?)
@f'' as in, how on earth would you guess that 8-11-14 isn't 8-14?
@humn What should I be watching!!!
f''
f''
@question_asker it makes all the intervals the same length, and also makes the values a continuous range
q_a, i have a whimsical puzzle based on something you said
f''
f''
I assume that's what the OP intended
19:19
ah, OK
and wanted you to have a chance when i post it
still... more assumptions
(here goes....)
(which, btw, is not a knock against you, @f'', just the OP for making us guess what he or she is thinking)
@humn cool thank you!

Q: The lists of Adrian Puzzlinger

humnAdrian Puzzlinger has gone missing. Even worse for puzzle lovers, the puzzle that Adrian was solving is missing as well. Detectives are puzzled by the imprint of staggered lists of numbers on a notepad on the desk in the puzzle room of Adrian Puzzlinger. $$\small \boxed{ \begin{matrix} ...

(sorry to interrupt, couldn't resist) [back to "work"]
19:27
fudge!
Butter, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, ......oh sorry.
Sorry, @humn - Couldn't resist.
gosh I'm going to be annoyed when someone who isn't met gets this puzzle
oh my god mathnet
19:36
KK I was literally just thinking about that the other day
Yeah, I've thought about it, a few times, on this site =D
there was an episode where someone's name was Li (or Lee) So
and the main guy said something like "that ain't necessary, Lee So"
and that awful fucking pun stuck with me for the rest of my life
I'm missing it.
(also there was once a character named D. John Mutard)
"It Ain't Necessarily So" is a popular song with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song comes from the Gershwins' opera Porgy and Bess (1935) where it is sung by the character Sportin' Life, a drug dealer, who expresses his doubt about several statements in the Bible. == Melody == In the song, the melody for the words "It ain't necessarily so" resembles the melody for the words "Bar'chu et adonai ham'vorach", at the beginning of the aliyah blessing before reading from the Torah. == Versions == The role of Sportin' Life was created by John W. Bubbles. Other notable...
necessarily - ah - yeah, Never eard the song =D
or heard it.
Rofl @humn
@humn I think, normally, the tag is used for trying to figure out a puzzle, but, given its description, I don't see why it cannot be used for this purpose.
19:42
yeah - I think the term I'd seen used for puzzles like this was "reverse puzzling"
but tagging it with Puzzle Identification works just as well as far as I'm concerned
All of those integer series show up in theOEIS
Though not together
and not vertically
the difference between the numbers in the first two rows is (3, 4, 5, ... 8)
and the difference between the numbers in the 3rd and 4th rows is (7, 6, 5,...2)
gah, you confused me
19:45
and the last row... obviously is just a sequence counting up
there are 25 unique numbers present
I see what you're trying to say
40 is the only unique number in the last row
Can't find any useful information on what type of puzzle it is, yet
Though the pattern in your image is
33 77 1
19:47
for reference - the lighter color is the original numbers, the darker bg is the differences between (horizontally) adjacent numbers
+1, +1, -1, -1, 1
So the next number in each series is easily deducable, if we cared
since the differences would be 9, 9, 1, 1, 1
a worthwhile question might be: are we working down from the top or up from the bottom?
technically, 36 and 37 are a bit out of place
The other question is: Are these numbers slanted, or were they interpreted incorrectly during the rubbing?
The 3rd question is: Do either of those questions matter?
i think they're purposefully staggered
I am going to make the assumption that they are meant to be staggered
which is what made me think of "differences"
like you'd have a list of numbers and write the differences between them offset slightly
19:51
Well..
Also keep in mind...
These aren't the numbers he was using, very likely
Whatever was on the paper he used, we can't see - this is the portions that he wrote on that paper
well right
these seem like they represent some kind of relationship between whatever (numbers? I assume) was on the original page
I mostly showed the differences to show that, whatever these numbers are, they have a certain progression about them
Presumably, the puzzle he was working didn't get solved.
or he solved it and has gone out on a trip to find that treasure
19:54
I do feel like the staggering implies that there should be something "between" the numbers
Yeah, it feels like he wrote these numbers between existing numbers for a specific reason
the only time i've used staggering would be to find the formula of a sequence of numbers
maybe they were on a checker board drawing =D
that also crossed my mind
but, here's the thing:
it's nearly 4PM on a friday
which means I need to leave work now
I'll be thinking about this on the train home and checking the site and this chat to see if anybody has made progress and/or solved it
20:01
Interesting that there's no number sequence tag on it
did you see the answer to the alphametic?
No, I didn't look
...
The fact that no one can vote to delete answers is awesome...
I feel bad downvoting it
I just flagged it
He made a random comment that's not even an attempt at an answer.
20:18
it is his attempt at an answer, but I guess it's his fault for not understanding an alphametic before posting a solution to one
20:30
Did a comment get deleted or something? I don't see what you guys mean (looking at mobile app now)
