We could hash it out in this room, but not everybody is always on.
@Jivings I'll post an answer, yeah
Questions that are "useful to your community but not strictly on-topic."
@Shog9 God. Stop posting quality messages. We are running out of pin space! D=>
@Shog9 Thanks for your help.
'k... I'm about to post something on MSO that strongly relates to this, after which I'll answer that meta question with some specific recommendations
21:01
@Shog9 Yes. You have been very helpful.
@Jivings So. How do you propose we decide a question as FAQ?
I say we ask a question that people answer with the question.
@Shog9 Interesting.
Then people vote on it and after a week we'll see if it has garnered enough support?
> I say we ask a question that people answer with the question.

What does this mean?
Like this one question.

Q: Stack Overflow clones

AndrijaListed here are clones of the Stack Exchange sites model.

People then post answers of what questions should be FAQ.
That way we can utilize the normal voting process to determine whether the community agrees with the answerer.
Yes, that's probably the best way.
21:04
Cool. I'll ask the question.
Should we have a barrier for it?
Like a proposal needs +5 votes to be accepted?
Perhaps the question should pose that question to the group also.
And make a suggestion.
Pose that question to the group?
In the question you are writing, just say there needs to be consensus of opinion. Upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. >0 means the majority agree imo.
I have that.
I'm wondering though if there should be a minimum requirement of upvotes.
Minimum number of votes maybe.
21:10
Kinda like an amendment to the US constitution needing 2/3 instead of 1/2.
Sorry for the Americanism.
Heh
Just details anyway, see what the community says.
Okay. We'll just do absolute majority then.
Why can't I make the question CW?
Ahh.

Q: Community Wiki checkbox missing in action

OdedIt looks like the Community Wiki checkbox is no longer appearing on the ask/edit question page, making it difficult to mark questions Community Wiki. Where is it, and how is one supposed to mark a question as CW now?

I see
Here is the question.

Q: What questions should be FAQ?

dunsmorebWhat questions should be made FAQ? Post your proposals as answers. The rules are. A proposal shall be voted on for one week. After one week the proposal shall be evaluated. If the proposal has more upvotes than downvotes the proposed question shall be made FAQ. Remember! Your votes are what ...

Let's move away from the FAQ terminology and just say protected?
21:17
How about.
> Community questions
protected community questions? :)
Sure. Why not?
I mean, we are... THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF THE PI!!!
Changed.

Q: What questions should be protected, community questions?

dunsmorebWhat questions should be made protected, community questions? Post your proposals as answers. The rules are. A proposal shall be voted on for one week. Nice one.
@Jivings Can't you handle flags?
Sorry?
What flags?
21:22
I flagged the post for CW. Just wondering if you can do that?
I cannot, only moderators I think.
Argh.
Can I reject your faq wiki?
Si.
What about the proposed FAQ?

A: What should the FAQ contain?

jandjorgensenQuestions about the following things are on-topic: The Raspberry Pi hardware. Raspberry Pi peripherals. Software that runs on the Raspberry Pi. Operating systems that run on the Raspberry Pi. Questions about the following things are off-topic: The ordering and/or purchasing of the Raspberry...

@Jivings I must say, I'm enjoying our new name. =P
Yes, this should link to our faq tags. The faq tags link to protected answers.
For example the FAQ can say.
For questions on X, see this guide.
So:
21:30
Sorry.
I'm back.
If you have a question about installing software on your Raspberry Pi, please fist check the beginners guide.
Or something to that effect.
Hmm...
How about.
> If your question relates to using Linux on the Raspberry Pi, please check the beginner's guide first.
> please fist check the beginners guide.
Haha. Priceless.
:-|
That's a bit too diverse.
Or maybe not...
I know.
Maybe we should just bring this up as it comes up?
Something to discuss in that question.
Heh, yes exactly.
21:34
What was I going to say...
I don't know because you didn't say it.
@Jivings You silly dog, you. =P
:)
+262 rep today and I only answered 2 questions.
God.
+58 today.
lol
People just upvote because I'm a groovy guy.
Why is this above the other answer?

A: How do I connect/disconnect a flash drive from the command line?

JivingsIf you're interested in the drives mounting automatically when you plug them in then you can try installing usbmount: sudo apt-get install usbmount When you insert a flash drive it will detect and mount it to /media/usb[0-7] and will unmount it when it is removed.

21:40
How are you displaying it?
The other one is much better.
I have mine sorted by votes.
I mean why does my answer have more votes.
Would you like me to downvote yours and upvote the other one? =P
Just upvote the other :P
Mine doesn't really answer the question though.
21:42
@Jivings It doesn't?!?!?! D=>
Not as well.
Anyway, that question should be protected.
I want to read @Shog9 question on Meta Stack Overflow...
Yes indeed. Where is this question he's posting...
@Jivings It's there now. Deleted, being reviewed by my teammates ;-)
21:45
@Shog9 Deleted?
@Shog9 Wow. Really? Get my hopes you will you...
@Jivings There's no "share a draft" feature on SE, so posting and then quickly deleting is a... bit of a hack to accomplish the same.
Ah I see.
So sad...
if you had 10K on MSO, you could be reading it right now!
21:47
I have 1,078...
ALMOST THERE!
That is like 300 less than my Stack Overflow rep. Lol.
JUST ANOTHER 900 SUPPORT QUESTIONS!
Haha. I have 108
I'm so not meta enough
21:50
How does meta rep work?
@Jivings What do you mean?
I was just confused about my meta rep for Raspberry Pi Meta
@Jivings Your Raspberry Pi Meta rep is the same as your Raspberry Pi rep.
It's 30 points different.
It can take a while to sync.
22:09
Got another 15 rep just then. That question I asked you about.
Which question?
@Shog9 When are you going to post it?
The one I said was a rubbish answer.
Oh. I know which one you are talking about now.
God.
I really wish @Shog9 would post it.
Haha chill out.
It's being vetted.
I know...

Q: Can I attach a SATA controller?

AlexI would like to use my Raspberry Pi as a file server (NAS/SMB). Will I be able to attach a SATA/RAID controller?

2
Q: How can I use a HDD to extend the life of my SD Card?

Andrew FoggHow can I set up a HDD to extend the life of my SD Card and maximize the performance of my Raspberry Pi? Related: How can I extend the life of my SD card?

Are those related? I don't get it :D
No.
I don't think so at least...
No, not related.
Why?
Ok. Good
I don't know. I guess I assumed attaching a HDD somewhat implies the need for a SATA controller. But there are of course other options (like USB).
The second question isn't about attaching a HDD.
I don't know, when I read that second question I felt like it was a dupe of the first. But I guess I just don't understand it :D
Oh
22:24
Don't worry about it.
@OliverSalzburg He does specify USB HDD in the question.
@Jivings @dunsmoreb just edited that in :P
Haha oh right.
@Jivings @OliverSalzburg It's true. =P
@OliverSalzburg What do you think of the new room name?
I like it :)
22:27
I love being room owner. =P
lol..
Sometimes I wish people were more active...
22:44
It's not too bad, people come and go. I'm looking forward to some new faces in public beta though.
@Jivings Ikr?
Don't we go into public beta tomorrow?
Shit I hope so.
It says we have been in beta six days.

Raspberry Piraspberrypi.stackexchange.com

Beta Q&A site for users and developers of hardware and software for Raspberry Pi.

Currently in private beta.

I thought after one week we go into public.
22:47
I guess @Shog9 will be the one deciding what happens.
I don't know about you @Jivings but @Shog9 is my favorite moderator. ;P
Haha
@dunsmoreb That would be tomorrow. And yes, you should be going public. Start sweeping the floors and getting the place looking neat.
Amazing.
I'm excited.
AWESOME! =D
Let me eat dinner I'm so excited!
22:53
You don't have time for that. There are more wikis for you to edit.
23:10
I'm leader of The Supreme Council of the Pi.
I think I have the time. =P
Argh! I hate Sundown...
I can't figure how to include it from libsundown.so.
Never used it. What are you making?
I'm trying to convert Markdown to HTML.
I've used Ruby's RedCarpet before, so I figured I used Sundown.
23:35
@Shog9 Almost done?
Nice to know there's always entertainment to be had from reviewing flags :-)

Q: PHP Member Script+

KeybordPiano459Does anyone know of a php script that has all that member area and stuff, but I can give users points that they can redeem, sorta like how sites give users points for doing things. If there's a way where they put in codes to get points (gift card method) that works too.

Are people that ignorant?
Call me a troll but that kind of post always makes me laugh, and I've always been tempted to create an anonymous account just to post a question like that and see the reaction :-)
(never have though)
Yet...
Here's a good one.

Q: TD Style + Class

KeybordPiano459I want my td tag to have a class as well as a style. How can I do that? Currently I have a td with a style, but I want to add a class to it as well. I tried this: <td style="background-color:#000000;width:125px;text-align:center;"> But without the class, because whenever I tried it, it ...

I still haven't completely figured out what you are supposed to do with bad questions (if you are not a moderator.) There are so many options...
Flag as spam/offensive (I've never seen a spam question)
Flag as VLQ (I do that when I do not understand anything in the question)
Close (I do that when I think I understand the question but it is inappropriate for some reason)
Downvote (I do that when I understand it but it is just badly written)
23:46
I would VTC & Downvote.
I'll bet SE's moderation system is one of the most complicated in the world
The javascript tag is full of terrible questions
or rather, most complicated on a public website (likely some blue chip companies and government departments have more complicated systems on their intranets)
