This is a general discussion room, but please feel free to create more subject-specific rooms (a single room with every possible discussion isn't very helpful)

Well this all seems to be working nicely :)
Yeah. Lots of stuff going on :D

Excellent community starting.

Raspberry Piraspberrypi.stackexchange.com

Beta Q&A site for users and developers of hardware and software for Raspberry Pi.

Currently in private beta.

I'm very interested in those numbers tomorrow
Same.
Ah, I was looking for that page, thanks!
I don't want too see our unanswered question rate though.
23:42
@dunsmoreb Heheh
I was looking through those questions earler.
But I've already seen a couple of questions I was wondering about myself.
I'm just too untalented. =P
Yeah, it will get better tomorrow when more people wake up and browse around
23:43
Very happy to see people are already picking up on those :D
This one here is a really good question that I want to see answered.

Q: Touchscreen compatibility

Till BI want to attach a touchscreen to my Raspberry Pi. While doing some internet search about this, I found out that this is not trivial, because not all touchscreens are compatible. How do I find out, whether a touchscreen is compatible to the Raspberry Pi? I am not looking for recommendations or ...

Do you guys think this would work: cross-lfs.org/view/clfs-embedded/arm?

Q: Is there a Linux From Scratch (LFS) ARM equivalent

popeyI'd like to demonstrate how it's possible to 'bootstrap' up from a near-bare installation of Linux to something useful and productive. The Tiny Core and LFS projects demonstrate this well. However they are specific images for x86 based systems Is there a similar project based around ARM based sy...

thats just one of those questions where you have to have done it to know
Ooh! that looks interesting!
I am off to bed, will look tomorrow
I was hoping to have a Pi by the time the beta starts :(
nn all
@popey Sleep tight!
23:45
Good night @popey.
@OliverSalzburg Same. I haven't been even able to buy one yet...
So we decided on meta that this question is off-topic.

Q: If I go on the waiting list to buy a RPi, do I have to buy one? Can I add myself to both waiting lists?

Highly IrregularIf I sign up for waiting lists at both Farnell and RS Components to try to get my RPi slightly sooner, will it cause any problems? Am I committing to buy one when I go on the waiting list? When are the waiting lists expected to be cleared?

Yet, somebody answered.

A: If I go on the waiting list to buy a RPi, do I have to buy one? Can I add myself to both waiting lists?

berry120One of my friends signed up to grab a Pi from both Farnell and RS, he received both without any problems. I'm not sure if this is technically allowed, but I doubt you'd have any grief - especially if you're registering interest now when the availability isn't anywhere near as scarce as it was a f...

@dunsmoreb I preordered the second I got the notification mail :P
Do you guys have any idea how we can get the word about meta out?
it's linked at the top of the page
@OliverSalzburg I didn't sign up for about a month in, I think?
hard to miss it :)
also, mentioning it when appropriate in answer to questions
now, really, bed...
23:48
Maybe a dancing llama that points to it every 15 minutes?
hah
I even hardly educated myself about any specifics regarding the device. I just want to have it and play with it :P
Somehow I feel about this like it was completely new technology
I concur.
@OliverSalzburg I'd like to "star" you on meta.

A: Should we enforce consistent abbreviating?

Oliver SalzburgYes, we should be consistent. No, we shouldn't abbreviate. I would prefer to replace all those instances with the proper trademark.

@dunsmoreb :D
Abbreviations often lead to ambiguity in the grown-up phases of SE sites. Best not to start with it ;)
@dunsmoreb That happens a lot. Nothing much you can do about it. Just make sure the questions get closed/migrated and people will learn.

Why can't I edit this?!?! Makes me tingle...

Q: Is it safe to operate a Rasp Pi on any dry surface?

foocodeThe Raspberry Pi does not come with a case. Is it safe to rest the device on any dry surface during operation? For example, would it be safe to place a case-less Rasp Pi directly on the floor of a metal comms cabinet? Would resting the Rasp Pi upon a conductive surface cause problems or prove d...

I can't edit either.
@Jivings Me neither
Do we really need a tag?
Noticed it on an answer earlier as well.
Must be some special beta rules
I think you can create any tag you want during private beta.
23:53
@dunsmoreb Hard to say, but I would say it's covered by
I really wish that I could retag it at least...
Haha. I mention a made up post by this exact same title in my meta post.
2
Q: What do I need to consider when creating a case?

Highly IrregularDoes it need ventilation? Do I need to use fire-proof materials?

I feel like it is related to upvotes
It appears that two people want to close it as a duplicate of a question asked later...
@dunsmoreb In beta, I think that's cool. It helps to shape the site.
Keep the question that's more to the point.
@OliverSalzburg Do you think it should be closed?
23:56
...I answered both questions. Is that wrong?
Haha.
@dunsmoreb Yes. I VTC'd
Well I voted to close it to.
Me too
It seems like the other question is more specific and more "well-rounded."
23:57
To my understanding, it's perfectly fine to ask variations of existing questions in the beta phase.
This helps to build a good base of questions.
Sounds good to me.
I prefer the earlier one. The other was just about ventilation.
If anyone has an invite to the beta - I'd appreciate one :-)
But try to VTC towards a question that has the highest value, of course :)
I wasn't questioning the variation.
@bmike email?
23:58
Is that an earlier post can be considered a "duplicate" of a later post. Found it funny.
@bmike email?
Let me jump on this bandwagon.
@bmike email?
@dunsmoreb :D
Hah I didn't see the other
In my profile
@OliverSalzburg see above
23:59
Bamn!
Sent. =P
Beat me
@bmike Now you get 3 ;)
That is the only thing I win at. D=>
