@MartinSleziak The tag was removed and then created again: math.stackexchange.com/posts/3742667/revisions
@MartinSleziak The tag now has also a tag-excerpt and a tag-info.
Once the synonyms are created, they might be more difficult to find. So maybe it makes sense to save somewhere the tag-info of the other tags.

It was probably created here: math.stackexchange.com/questions/502825/…
The query found this as the oldest question: Can the ceiling function be used to prove the Archimedean property? But the tag was removed on the same day: math.stackexchange.com/posts/431493/revisions

Q: How much is $\lceil\frac{1}{\infty}\rceil$?

Erel Segal-HaleviHow much is $\lceil\frac{1}{\infty}\rceil$ ? On one hand, $\frac{1}{\infty}=0$, so its ceiling is also $0$. On the other hand, for all $x\geq 1$, $\lceil\frac{1}{x}\rceil = 1$, so, when $x$ goes to infinity, the function should remain with the same value...

Q: Is it possible to truncate a number just with Arithmetic operations?

wutzebaerHi is it possible to truncate a number just with Arithmetic operations? For example if i have 2.5 i want to get "2" without using modulo or something other which can't be rewritten in formulas. i could calculate 2.5 * 0.8 = 2 but this just works for "2" what i want to do: 2^x-trunc(2^x...

Q: Solving for variable in quotient of ceil function

Nicholas KinarGiven $k=\lceil\frac m {n}\rceil$, I would like to solve for $m$ given $k$ and $n$ as positive integers. How do I solve for $m$, and is there a single solution for $m$? Perhaps one way to do this might be to split $n$ up into cases depending on whether it is even or odd? However, I've noticed ...

Q: A book has a few pages on which page numbers are written. Someone has torn one page out of it and now average of all page numbers is $\frac{105}{4}$

SimarI couldn't relate this question to any of the topics specifically , I found this in a miscellaneous math problems book(non-calculus) . Here's how it goes, A book has a few pages on which page numbers are written. Someone has torn one page out of it and now average of all page numbers is $\frac{1...

@MartinSleziak The tag-creator left this comment concerning on meta:
Update: I have created the tag and am updating some of my old posts to include it (apologies for the front-page notifications). As soon as I get 5 rep, I will propose the synonyms. — Integrand yesterday

@XanderHenderson OTOH, I would consider asking on meta before creating the tag a step in positive direction.
This user creates a lot of tags, usually without a previous discussion on meta: chat.stackexchange.com/search?q=rodrigo&room=3740 data.stackexchange.com/math/query/1229810/…
And certainly Asaf's comments can be quite harsh sometimes. Although clearly the OP escalated that much further. (We do not see the comments which were deleted - I am pretty sure there was at least one, maybe more.)
All I am trying to say: In my opinion, it would be nice if this user was willing to come to meta to discuss tag sometimes. I'd hope that this case didn't scare him of.

@MartinSleziak Yeah, that was my point, though I guess I didn't communicate it well.
This person had a reasonable idea, but just did things very much wrongly.
@MartinSleziak No argument here.

@XanderHenderson I still don't fully see the need for this tag.

@AsafKaragila I'm not sure that I do, either---I wouldn't upvote the answer (though I wouldn't downvote it, either).
However, I think that the proposal deserves a fair hearing, hopefully without the weird behaviour of the original proposer.

@XanderHenderson I have no complaints about having a proper discussion about this. It is very hard to convince me that new tags are needed, but it's not impossible.

@AsafKaragila I think we are in nearly complete agreement.

@XanderHenderson Maybe it would be better to spell the tag name in the deleted post in full - as political-sciences?
In any case, the shortcut is probably "poli sci" and not "poli sci". (At least that seems more natural to meta. Although I am not a native speaker.)
Actually, the deleted question was about (political-science). I somehow mixed it up and made plural out of it.
But the main point was about poly vs. poli.

Maybe spell it as Polizei? At least in conjunction with mathematical german...

@AsafKaragila What do you think about the tag proposed here: math.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/31103/tag-management-2020/…
Update: I have created the tag and am updating some of my old posts to include it (apologies for the front-page notifications). As soon as I get 5 rep, I will propose the synonyms. — Integrand yesterday
Creating the synonym through voting might take a long time - since the users need score +5 and at the moment there are almost no questions with the proposed master tag.

@MartinSleziak I'm not sure that it matters, but I've edited it.

Thanks for the edit!

@MartinSleziak I can see why these tags could be merged.

So if the mods consider support for this tag synonym already sufficient, maybe a moderator could create the synonym. (I suppose, probably you'd like to discuss this with the other moderators first. But since you happened to be in this room, I have asked.)

6:33 PM
@MartinSleziak Maybe they will.

I will note that I started my mathematical career as an archaeologist, and came to mathematics from the point of view of probability theory (my goal was to learn statistics real güd). So I might be more sympathetic than most to a social sciences tag.

Basically, all past experience with the tag synonyms says that creating them through voting of regular users typically takes a long time and it is quite difficult.

@XanderHenderson My goal is to become a geologist. Although in the set theoretic sense of the word. :P

This makes me believe that the proposal will be voted down, at which point we have something to point to in order to say "Hey, we've talked about this before, and the community said 'no thanks'."

@MartinSleziak Well. I think we can concentrate all the data into a single place, and then we can just do all the synonyms at once.

6:35 PM
@AsafKaragila I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds like fun!

As far as I can tell, only 26 synonyms have been approved without any moderator intervention: https://data.stackexchange.com/math/query/1241631/synonyms-approved-by-non-moderators
Re: concentrate all the data into a single place. Well, that's the purpose of the tag management thread, isn't it?

I have to go now. But let's do this synonyms thing soon. We can go over the list and see what has reasonable community support, and then we can move forward with this.
@MartinSleziak Yes. :-)

See you later!
