6:04 PM
Though of course, I know very well exactly who the current mods are and how active they are, etc. Not all users voting will though, and perhaps they'll vote via their ideals like you said

I don't have enough reputation to become mod :(
Will nominate myself next year, though.

@Solver Only 300 points are required. There's still time.

@Doorknob yep, you're right - someone did drop out. now we're back down to 10 noms. Who dropped out?

Downgoat

Oh, didn't notice.

6:15 PM
oh, why?

@Dennis oh, right
thats a surprise

I am definitely reelecting our current active mods (as I like them a lot), but that leaves 1 spot open

No it doesn't. :PP

4 pro-tems, 4 spots.

6:16 PM
active is the key word

Hence the whole discussion above.

@NathanMerrill No. Martin, Dennis, Alex, and Doorknob are all current and all active

Dennis, Martin, Doorknob, Alex are all very active (in no particular order)

oh, hmm. then what about Chris-Jester?
I thought he was one of the 4?

He's one of the 6.

gnibbler and Chris-Jester are the other two.

ah ok

They are inactive

gnibbler is active a little bit with mod things.

6:18 PM
I had no idea that gnibbler was a user on our site, let alone a mod

I am definitely going to be voting for Dennis and Doorknob.

@quartata Really? Maybe Chris is too since he just nominated himself, but those two are hardly as visibly active as the 4

Alex told me he still handles flags

CJY and Gn are both around some. I don't think anyone could argue that D, A, M and D are more active though

I don't know about CJY though.

6:20 PM
ha, we're DAMD with the current mods ;-)

We'd be MADD to reelect them

@HelkaHomba You got my reply to your question right

Apologies everyone else, I've only been around,
since, I don't know, a week?

well, there you go...

6:21 PM
hi @MartinBüttner when are you posting your nomination
:)

@quartata Yes

My first question was terrible, (minus 13) and the rest are okay

@HelkaHomba k

28 secs ago, by Martin Büttner
well, there you go...

(+10 and +15)

6:22 PM
@MartinBüttner Wait, really?

@MartinBüttner vtc, not clear

But...

@Solver you're still eligible to vote :)

Yes, I know.
I'm excited.

okay, time to read up on this transcript...

6:23 PM
It'd be great if election posts didn't show the diamond

Why?

Bias.

Ah, yes.
Makes sense

Although personally I don't think that would help much since most people should know who the mods are + they'll probably say in their nomination post
It's not like it's that bad of a thing anyways.

@NathanMerrill Not a bad idea, though its generally pretty clear after reading the first sentence of each mod-nom who the current mods are

6:24 PM
true, but it means that reading is required

Well I don't know half of them, since, as I mentioned, I've only been around a week :(

also, for those that vote based on the statistics chart, it doesn't bias them

I vote based on personality. :P

@Solver I guess I won't get your vote then - I have very little of that ;-)

@DigitalTrauma You just proved yourself wrong. :D
I need to get a profile picture that is something different to the default.
Hmm, I'll do that now...

6:28 PM
Martin's in
I guess the rest of us can just go home now ;-)

I don't even know Martin yet, so don't give up yet ;)

maybe I'll make a "I commit to considering all of the applicants" meta post

So much for not quoting stats... :D

@NathanMerrill I'll +1 it

@MartinBüttner context?

6:32 PM
Helka's comment on my nomination

Anonymous
@MartinBüttner I may edit mine to not quote stats either - I was unhappy that quoting my stats left me with no room for other stuff

I'm thinking of composing a mother meta post to up the character limit on nominations from 1200 to 2000.

Pssh. Golf em down!

@quartata I think the limit is a good thing.

@MartinBüttner Hey, you should be proud of me for getting over that fact that you have more medals :P

6:34 PM
Oh yes, I'm very proud. :)

@MartinBüttner wow, I had no idea, so thanks @HelkaHomba

I agree that there should be a limit but I feel that the current one is far too restrictive.
1500 might be good.

Prevents filibusters

....not sure if you're joking or not... :P

I ended up cutting some stuff, and I'm quite happy I had to. 1200 characters seems just about enough to get your point across, but really means you'll have to condense it to the important things.

6:35 PM
Filibusters aren't just saying a lot; they're saying so much that a vote doesn't happen.

The limit is fine imo. If I have to read 30+ nominations, I'd rather they not be all that long. It's easy enough to look up candidates I don't know enough about on their profile page.

If I ran for moderator, I wouldn't have anything to say, so the limit is good :D

@El'endiaStarman kinda :P. I mean if the limit was 30k like posts, people might just blab on forever so no one has time to read anyone else

It's so easy to ignore them though...

That's not a good tactic
I just scroll straight past the long ones.

6:36 PM
yes, I found it difficult getting it into 1200, but on reflection I think its a good limit

maybe I'll vote based on length of post

@NathanMerrill Noooooooo!

if you can convince me in 100 words what others take 1200 words to do...

18 hours ago, by Helka Homba
We need to make it so the shortest mod wins instead. Agreed?

I would win anytime if that rule was there.

6:38 PM
@NathanMerrill I was happy to get mine to exactly 1200 characters :)

Actually, I take that back. I don't have +300 rep yet :(

@NathanMerrill "Hello, I'm El'endia Starman. I'm already an elected mod on another site. People like me there and they like me here. Vote for me!"
That's sure to get me first place.

> People like me there

nah, your name isn't golfed enough
you'd have to do a name change
:)

Anonymous
6:40 PM
Clearly I should be elected mod, because my username is the shortest (and has never been changed)

@Mego Wouldn't be hard to do that.

If you named yourself El people might mistake you for a Kryptonian

Or God.

@Mego obviously.

Also we need more birds controlling moderating the site

Also we need more birds controlling moderating the site
Very funny :D

I'm actually most interested on how people answer the questions
this site has some pretty unique challenges

I don't have enough skills to answer any.
:(
Actually, I'll give it a shot now.
Wish me luck!

@NathanMerrill hue hue hue

@Mego
Why isn't your avatar the Linux penguin?
:D

@Mego But your avatar has. Who knows what kind of penguin you'll be tomorrow?

6:44 PM
@Solver everyone here answered their first question at some point - give it a shot - you might not beat Dennis, but none of the rest of us do either :)

Anonymous
@Solver Because this penguin is more recognizable as a penguin at smaller resolutions, like in chat

@DigitalTrauma Thanks for the encouragement :D

its a penguin? I though it was a fat airplane

Anonymous
@HelkaHomba Tomorrow I'll be a monochrome penguin

Y'all can't trust someone who changes their face on a whim!

6:46 PM
@Mego I'm allergic to monochrome.
@El'endiaStarman I can!

@Mego Woah, you might technically be a gorilla:

Anonymous
@HelkaHomba I meant with transparency :P

Invert colors and remove beak/feet

@Solver Also my love of penguins began before my love of Linux

Penguins rule!
Goodbye.
Off on a mission to answer a question.

@NathanMerrill Wrong chatroom

^

ah thanks

1 hour later…
8:14 PM
After the election, what will happen to current moderators who are not reelected?

They go poof.

@BentNeeHumor They lose their diamonds.

And sent on the long walk into the cursed earth

@El'endiaStarman Does that apply to most elections?

This is how the first election of a newly graduated site like ours works, since the current moderators were never officially elected by the community. Starting after this one, all mods will keep their diamonds until the decease, resign or get kicked out.

8:23 PM
^
Future elections will add moderators.

@Dennis I'm pretty sure SE has technology to let moderators mod after death
Trap your soul in eternal flag review

> I'm pretty

>_>

there'll be a tier 4: not ad supported, but flag review supported

8:35 PM
@NathanMerrill This is mildly terrifying.

its one of my favorites :)

8:47 PM
@HelkaHomba Hermann Hesse - Stufen (usually translated as Steps or Stages if you wanna go look for it, but I don't know any single translation that really captures the tone of the original)

poems are usually language specific
actually, that begs the question: does lojban have poems?

re ctuca is also fun

1 hour later…
9:53 PM
It's really nice to see the moderators vouching for each other

I agree.

Hey @El'endiaStarman, are you planning to run?

Still thinking about it.
A couple people have said that they would vote for me.

IDK
I might.
