@PeterTamaroff It's rare for a publisher or developer to just sell license keys. Your best bet is to just buy the disc and use it as a coaster or something.

@MichaelGreinecker A bit of both? At this point, there have been several meta threads going back and forth about Qiaochu's and Bill' actions, with support and disdain voiced for both. I think at t his point it's best to let things settle a bit. If you think there's productive discussion to be had, the best place for it would be in a dedicated meta post, not in the comments on something unrelated.

In principle... Asking a friend = only you get help. Asking on the internet = everyone in the course gets help.

Of course, people could also ask questions on the internet about assignments. ;)

But one could not pass a course that way, without somehow knowing the material anyway.

@JasperLoy The current mod team is completely disfunctional, as the recent events show. That one mod could think that he has the power to single-handedly delete roughly 150 posts without consulting anyone else speaks quite clearly for how bad it is.

@amWhy I think the most important thing that needs to be done now is to keep tension off the main site. Try to flag stuff quickly to get it moved to meta. Try to keep folks focused on issues and away from personal flames. If everyone helps out much of the tension can be avoided.
