8:00 PM
that's tough. i bet there are dozens of them but not in a way that is amenable to search terms.

@robjohn Ok thanks!

8:13 PM
@robjohn Looky See!!! The flagged mean squared!!! I was going to suggest you do something like this, but I'm proud you came up with it on your own!!! Next challenge: Toga, toga, toga!! ;P

i don't see a flag?

@robjohn That's perfectly normal; the problem is when you talk to yourself, but have to pause, to ask yourself, "What did you just say"?

scratch that, i was looking on the right

looks like england is going to win this

8:20 PM
^^^ hmm, kind of portrays a disgruntled patriot!! Can you, just for 24 hours, use happy eyes? and a smile??

just an idea
looking at it, i realize that it might be more horrific than the original art

i like the eyes :-)

england scored again

who?

henderson

8:29 PM
sorry, it was a bad, entirely inappropriate joke.

you've been warned about those.

my bad behaviour is sadly ingrained

there ought to be some asterisks or something. warning, irish ancestry, may talk lots of s---.

my daughter was complaining that when she was 18 i was concerned about her walking home from Bart around midnight (a mile or so away) but I showed no concern about my son who is now 18.
he is 6'3" and has a black belt. that argument did not sway her.

el cerrito plaza is no joke.

8:33 PM
i know it is a bit sexist, but if something happened...
i did let her walk home, but asked her not to walk along the bart path

my wife, also a black belt, broke somebody's nose once. in some kind of competition. they asked her to apologize and she said "i don't see what i've done wrong."

@leslietownes Perfect!!!!! ;D

fair enough. one of my brothers broke some toes on someone's head during a full contact karate thingy.

they were playing upon the idea that a woman needs to apologize. i don't think they would have done it with a male competitor.
so yes, i agree entirely with her position.

when i say "i let her walk home" that really is just me fooling myself into thinking i might have some marginal influence.
yeah, that sort of crap bothers me.
i mean because she is f.
but i am obviously guilt of same in different circumstance

8:37 PM
she never apologized.

good for her
then again, i have never 'let' my son ride on the back of a motorcycle with no hands in jakarta

karate in competitions is somewhat formulaic and routinized. but the person she was sparring with had a history of pushing the boundaries and relying upon other people to hold back.
so she got an elbow in her nose and maybe doesn't do that anymore.
i don't think my wife intended any of it, but the elbow was out there and maybe don't walk right into it.

i wanted my daughter to take tkd or something, but she wasn't having any of it. i think the self defense classes do not teach much useful in the way of physical skills.
what your wife did was well within the norms of such fighting.
lunch time, then my son wan;t to go to vallejo to scout out the dmv area

i took aikido classes from a guy who did about four months of standard aikido and then it was just street fighting.
i stopped taking the classes because it was kind of scary.
we did a lot of stuff with wooden knives and staffs. i fractured my collarbone in that class.

@amWhy It is the same avatar for Memorial Day.
@leslietownes long ago, I realized that "turning the frown upside down" made it look evil vs grumpy.

8:45 PM
it definitely did not have the intended effect.
'zodiac' is a good feature film with scenes set in vallejo.

street fights are never the movie bruce lee variety.messy stuff, knees to the nuts & heads, gouging, etc.and almost always badly one sided. best avoided.

i can't actually think of another film with vallejo as a setting.

@robjohn But I like @leslietownes version!! Just for 24 hours, pretty please!

our aikido guy was all about throwing stuff in people's faces and then gouging the eyes out.

yeah, i vote for the eyes * smile
@leslietownes that sort of stuff only works if you are willing to go first
but that is much harder than most realise

8:48 PM
my dad was working at a newspaper when the zodiac killer, or someone who knew a lot about zodiac killings, phoned the local police and taunted them from the parking lot. they found the phone swinging.
whoever it was knew way more than had been publicly released about the lake berryessa killing.

wow.

@amWhy sorry.

i enjoyed stylized fighting like judo, but real fights are best avoided.

my dad's office was across the street from the police station. they had a scanner going constantly. the dispatcher was like, this is some other crank, blah blah, whatever. then the guy started going off on details and it became important to know where the call was coming from.
and he'd phoned from the public phone next to the police station.

@robjohn You live up to your name, meanie! ;P

8:51 PM
it's the first killing in 'zodiac'

scary stuff

i don't think anybody will ever know who did it
zodiac is a good movie. they did a lot of the footage in the LA area but did capture what the north bay looked like in the 1970s.

@ExercisingMathematician thanks !! will look at your post about prime twins

9:19 PM
@copper.hat It should be there now. It just takes a while for the caches to catch up.

9:43 PM
@Thorgott when I was a kid I was sure abel ruffini was wrong and found many ways to solve the general quintic using radicals

we all made mistakes in our youth

10:26 PM
speak for ur self

im using the royal we

thorgott's got blue blood
@Thorgott what have you been up to lately?
Developing a taste for mett, I see.

10:42 PM
wtf

I never could get past the raw part.
Completely turned me off of the food. Entirely.
Raw eggs though---completely okay.

how

@BalarkaSen how what?

raw eggs are full of e coli and salmonella bacterium
i do not want to get simultaneous Typhoid and UTI

The chances of contracting anything from raw eggs is pretty low.
If you buy pasteurized eggs, even lower.

10:45 PM
hm
also depends on your immune system i guess
as someone who's on an antibiotic high right now i will probably pass this russian roulette offer

eats Balarka's share of the bibimbap enthusiastically.

bounty !!

my roommate went to china and ate all kinds of raw meat
and eggs
he said it was p good
this was way before COVID

They have some excellent vegetarian food in china, too.
And surrounding countries, of course.

aha
im a wuss i prefer eating super fried shit

10:51 PM
Like what dishes?

dont even eat beef actually because it made me sick way back in my childhood

I don't know if feces is better fried...

@mick what about $e^z$?

@anakhro lol idk. i have been eating doubly fried pomfrets recently, they're good.
not much of a dish but good for health or whatever maybe
just fry it twice so that it becomes like a biscuit

Doubly fried and healthy, interesting. :P

10:54 PM
actually we use very little oil

Oh so you just mean heated, not like deep fried twice.

yeah lmfao

Double frying around here is doubly deep fried.

yeah im using nonstandard terminology pretty sure. most people understand frying to be dipping the thing in liters of oil

Common to make things extra crispy because after the first frying, the stuff inside is soggier and the water leeches to the fried outside. Then if you fry it again, it gets rid of this after it has sat awhile.

10:56 PM
yeah

Tastes pretty amazing, but yeah, uses lots of oil and not as healthy as it could be.

just doing some math here and there, getting along, nothing spectacular

need to relocate to a place where there's no bacteria
probably oymyakon
bacterium probably do not survive -70C or whatever

extremophiles probably love it there.

i like me some chilly weather
a little bit of cold yknow

11:07 PM
Do you live in a cold part of India?

alas no
its boiling always here
theres microbes everywhere man. even in cold weather you have fucking norovirus
what a fucking nightmare

Are you now a germaphobe?

who likes disease

There is a difference in fearing or showing an intense dislike of microbes/bacteria/viruses vs. disease.

well those are the fuckers who cause most of em
id get rid of diseases altogether if i had the chance to be clear

11:11 PM
They are also the ones which help you digest stuff.

Oh yeah I agree I am not discriminating against all microbes
but i also think our digestion system is a bit of a shoddy business
tbh i hate the human configuration

Found out you are lactose intolerant?

look im not speaking in defense of my own personal insecurities
these are objective claims
humans are fragile
the biology is a net i seek to fly past

These seem to be relative statements.

the only way out is quantum computers

11:14 PM
Is that where you are heading math-wise now?

gotta upload the mind stream into them so that we can leave this shell of a body
no math is a game to distract yourself from this daily misery
it is not a solution

Solution to what problem?

the problem of human suffering

@robjohn bingo, needed to do a full refresh :-)

the only solution to human suffering is via liquidation of the human biology
we have to abolish this soft machine

11:16 PM
balarka quit smoking and now is onto drinking. :((((

need to upload ourselves into the metaverse

it is central to the human condition...
drinking, that is

@copper.hat Now I can sing the Star Spangled Banner

:-) i'm listening. will be flying the flag tmr. somewhere along the way i lost my full size Irish flag

@anakhro I had a friend who went the other way. They quit smoking and drank more to make up for it.
@copper.hat I looked up the precise specs for the American flag. I programmed it into Mathematica and that is what I used for this avatar.

11:21 PM
@robjohn :-) i wonder what the rules are for 'handling' a virtual flag.

@Thorgott correct

@copper.hat don't let it touch the ground

@anakhro nah, im too weak in the stomach for that
anyway im off to sleep

@copper.hat all the electrons will bleed away

@robjohn virtual ground...

11:22 PM
@BalarkaSen enjoy your soft bodied sleep while the rest of us hard boys stay up late
clicks mandibles.
Okay now I need to go do something productive.
Enjoy your evening/morningz.
