So kids in such nomadic societies learn to count, but they don't get hung up on concepts like "a million". However, they do learn about other mathematical structures. Years ago, I was told that (in the old days, before modern standardised education) that a 5 year old kid in Central Australia may not be able to count beyond 20. But he can easily verbalise the tree of his kin and the
moiety of all of the people in that tree, to 5 or 6 generations.
