the title asks for continuity, the 2nd paragraph says you want to know if E is convex, and what you really want is to find extrema...

Maybe people have trouble understanding what you want?

The second section, which starts with «Is this right???» does not have any words apart from those? What is that supposed to be? Explain what you wrote there, help others help you.

The last part is long, and contains a «please ignore» which I do not know what it refers to.

I don't understand what $H\left(\phi\right)=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{\pi}\arctan\left(\phi\right)$ could possibly mean

(If you want something to be ignored, simple delete it)
