There are people "of no importance" that are not "worthless."
May I ask for a bit of guidance on a math question? (Matrices)
Askaway
@Danu Not sure what you mean.
(Sorry, was away)
@KarlKronenfeld lol!
23:18
@BalarkaSen Are you suggesting that I should view my remark as funny too? :)
user174558
@Danu It is always best to check a proper, authoritative dictionary.
Have you used visual thesaurus?
@JohnNash We appear to have a ghost in the chat room. (And I don't exist at all)
@KarlKronenfeld Yes, precisely.
user174558
@KarlKronenfeld You certainly exist, or you won't be able to type what you just did.
23:23
"I type therefore I am"
@JohnNash Who says I am typing?
The fact that I am able to doubt my existence is sufficient (a la Descartes)
Sufficient for what?
user174558
I just posted two answers, please upvote them!
@BalarkaSen To deduce my existence. As you referenced, "I think, therefore I am"
Sufficient for the possibility of not existing.
23:25
More trivially, that.
@KarlKronenfeld But how does one deduce non-existent? Is there a converse?
this is the question: http://i.imgur.com/kHBuae1.jpg (part ii)

I got the answer k = +/- 6.5.

However, I don't really understand the logic behind the method - I don't understand why I am doing the method that I am doing.

Area of T × Area scale factor = 364 (Area of T')
So, Area scale factor = Determinant (transformation matrix)
Det = (6 × 2) - (-2 × 1) = 14
Area of T = 1/2 (Base × Height)
Area of T = 1/2 (8 × k) = 14k

14 k = 364
k = +/- 6.5

Could you explain what I am actually doing?

I know that I could simply take Det = 14 and divide it by the area of T' then, divide it by 4k (the are
@skillpatrol ^
holy crap, the size of that message.
@OFFSHARING I'm sorry to hear that that happened. I hope that it is not as you perceive and simply a coincidence, but there is probably no way to really know.
@BalarkaSen sorry haha :D

@BalarkaSen (In western thought) You have to accept the law of contradiction, then you have to actually derive a contradiction.
Sorry, I am an intuitionist.
There's nothing called the law of contradiction.
Nothing both is and isn't.
If you want to have some fun, 'nothing' both is and isn't.
This discussion is confuzzling me.
Ok, I understood that statement, after some struggle.
This article uses forms of logical notation. For a concise description of the symbols used in this notation, see List of logic symbols. In classical logic, the law of non-contradiction (LNC) (or the law of contradiction (PM) or the principle of non-contradiction (PNC), or the principle of contradiction) is the second of the three classic laws of thought. It states that contradictory statements cannot both be true in the same sense at the same time, e.g. the two propositions "A is B" and "A is not B" are mutually exclusive. The principle was stated as a theorem of propositional logic by Russell...

@robjohn Indeed, it's hard. Then I feel an undescribable taste because of that, and I also mentioned that in mathematics I'm not a Christian anymore.
However, I'm glad I always protected my top research, a positive thing in the whole story, but that matters a lot.
The "dispute" earlier on in here, sounds very subtle compared to that of which, I start xD 'Biosphere', got heated the other day. Flags everywhere :P
We produce subtle dramas, indeed.
yea i had worse days
Anyway -- is anybody able to provide me with some formulae for my question above? :P
@KarlKronenfeld Are there connections between logic and topology? An exchange of ideas? (exclude HoTT and topoi)
