Questions posted about pi today got me. Can someone tell me what is pi? Not historically, but what does modern mathematics has to say about it (anything beyond cirumference diameter ratio, or it showing up in integrals and limits of infinite series)
PS: I have read the wikipedia article.

I'm looking for a synonym for a top left point in a rectangle. Does this have a name?

Call it an upper left corner and be done with it.

What does the double vertacle bar mean? as in ||x|| (not the OR operator)
20:12
@OghmaOsiris That is the symbol for the norm of x.
20:31
Huh. I guess I'll learn about that in Calc 3
Or linear algebra
21:25
ARGGGH! Why can't people read?! A really large portion of questions tagged (graph) should be tagged (graph-theory), and a small portion in reverse. The Wiki for (graph) clearly states that the tag is to be used for graphs of functions, and to please use (graph-theory) for the kind of graphs formed by vertices and paths!
21:35
@WillieWong They probably can read, but don't bother to read the tag wiki.
@OghmaOsiris If in any of those courses, it will be in linear algebra.
21:50
@WillieWong 83% of the questions originally tagged under (set-theory) should be tagged as something else. Be it (elementary-set-theory) in 60% of these cases, and something completely unrelated to set theory in the others.
-sigh- What we really need is users who diligently retag things. But it is so easy for something like graph versus graph-theory to slip through, if users in general aren't familiar with the different tag meanings
I do my best in set theoretic tags.
About 6% of my comments is "I don't see where the set theory comes in..." followed by the usual reply "You are correct, I have retagged the question."
@WillieWong: You did not reply to my email yet...
fire @Wil
lulz. I love puns.
What e-mail. You mean the one about the lonesome tag?
Yeah.
I replied to you this morning.
21:58
Right, but wasn't my explanation already clear? Why bother touching it if the software will touch it in less than a month? And that way it won't be bumpe?
Huh, fireworks going on outside. I wonder why?
Oh, you mean that link to meta.SO? I don't think it is your explanation per se :-D
I'm always a bit freaked out that they feel perfectly comfortable setting off fireworks in Britain away from a body of water.
@AsafKaragila My explanation consists of giving you the link. =)
Okay, now that's just odd, the fireworks stopped abruptly. I wonder if it has anything to do with the suddenly pouring rain. ;-)
@WillieWong I'm not sure I would be happy as a student of yours... "I explained it in class... "/ "But professor Wong, you only told us the DOI number of a paper referencing a paper which has an unclear explanation..." ;-)
And Jeff practically says there that the tags will be removed. If you remove both of them you are going to end up with an orphan question... then what?
@AsafKaragila It becomes "untagged".
@WillieWong Yes. And then what?
Also, are you going to write on the meta thread I started?
22:06
What do you mean by "then what"?
Then we have a bunch of questions tagged as untagged.
@AsafKaragila Also, you really haven't had any professors what just give a reference? I had one who gave a reference to a book which he said is excellent. I couldn't find it in the library, the librarian said it is long overdue and presumed lost. Two months later I saw that book in the same professor's office...
@WillieWong I had many, none of them claimed to have explained the topic in class :-)
@AsafKaragila So? For questions which isn't a good match to this site (which is why they become untagged in the first place), that is a pretty dignified way to die.
@AsafKaragila You mean the yearling one? I'll wait my 34 days before i comment.
Are these questions deleted by software? Get hidden? Form a group and sing a musical number?
@WillieWong That is really mature, I didn't say you have to have a yearling badge. I will edit that in, to clarify my point! >]
22:10
@AsafKaragila Depends. If it has negative score and no answers, it gets purged. Else I think the last option is the one.
@WillieWong So in this case a musical number is going to occur here in about five and a half months? That is a long time to wait, not to mention newcomers might find it appropriate and add more under these tags.
@AsafKaragila Well, I am not a yearling yet... so I don't know why you are looking at me with an expectation of maturity. =)
@AsafKaragila The cleanup is monthly, no?
@WillieWong But it only removed single tags over six months old, no?
@WillieWong Neither am I, and even if I had five yearling badges. So what? :P
Oh hah, I misread the post. Sorry 'bout that.
Okay. Hum... well, the hope is no-one else will be stupid enough to try that stunt. I guess I'll deal with the problem if it becomes a problem.
Very well then.
22:18
Also, I don't really feel comfortable manually retagging something untagged...
I am going to sleep. By the time I wake up I want to see an apology in the form of scotch being sent as a present. Also, write your views on the year that has passed you lazy bum ;-)
@WillieWong I opt for this question to be deleted altogether.
I think you should post that as a meta question
You know that high rep users can vote for deletion, right?
Should you or should you not post in the yearling thing?
I am still 799 points away from that vote =]
@AsafKaragila I will possibly write something later. Though my thoughts are a bit mixed, and it is hard to summarise.
@AsafKaragila There are > 10 (15?) users with the requisite deletion powers. Furthermore, if you post it on meta, I can gauge the community momentum a bit better.
@WillieWong Very well then.
I will do both things tomorrow.
22:22
There used to be also a Meta thread on moderator cleanup... you may want to check the arguments in there.
Instead of working on my assignment :-D
Anyhow, g'night
