@fredsbend It doesn't follow naturally that the clients are ok with this, if they are happy to pay the price for the product. You cannot always quality assure everything you buy - If I buy a used car, I also want to know its real age and not just "you are happy how it drives, so pay the full price" - I don't think the clients peer review every bit of code they buy. So they make some assumptions on the code quality they will receive!
And these assumptions are based on competence of the developer multiplied by the time he spend working on the piece of code! Just because the code somehow works right now doesn't say it will break down with the next change, because insted of a senior dev working 20 hours, a newbiew spend 1 hour to build something that somehow works. - The customer will be happy now, but they might regret it later.
