@Nathaniel Sad indeed. I'm not sure what effects bounties have on the site yet. The most active users see all questions anyway, and probably answer if they can. There are not that many users who see the bounty but would not otherwise notice the question.

Bounties are not worthless, but I just wonder how well they typically work at this stage.

@JoonasIlmavirta Perhaps the best use is awarding already existing, high-quality answers that haven't received enough votes/attention. But hopefully this case was an anomaly.

@Nathaniel I hope so, too. Some questions are just too tricky for anyone to answer properly, even if many are interested in it. It's hard to tell which questions are that way.
