10:00 PM
I got the mini, so the size is pretty much the same as my 6. With the time I spend on my computer and iPad, I just don't need an oversized phone.

need to upgrade to Mojave so that I can xfer stuff to the new computer

LOL ... you are sticking with ancient OS :) I'm on the second BigSur.

I have a laptop and a phone. No iPad, so I like having a big phone (it helps me to compensate ;-)
@TedShifrin I need to use that OS to xfer stuff, then I can move up.
Ahhh... I just installed ChatJax on my wife's computer.

I already warned you about all the software that becomes dead. I upgraded to Mathematica 12.2 (for a bunch of money) because Wolfram told me I had to, only to find that 12.0 still boots fine. Grr.

i got kicked out of crude today.

10:05 PM
Were you being childish?

that is the problem with paid for software. it really is rental.
i am always childish
when you move to another computer it is usually much more convenient to just pay for the upgrade instead of going through the whole transfer mess.

I think I can put my hard drive onto most computers and it will boot

@copper.hat I really hate that move. Adobe was one of the first to do that

@robjohn i understand the realities, but it truly is a pain, especially if you only use some stuff sporadically.

@copper.hat Pay for all the upgrades for the next year for something you may use once or twice

10:12 PM
yep.
i have been using a pdf annotation product for decades, but every time i get a new laptop it is just more convenient to buy another license than to go through the process.

When I use Photoshop, I grind it hard. But then there are long periods where I don't use it at all.

at least you are using it and it is a pretty good tool.
i sign pdfs maybe 10 times a year now. that's $7/signature :-)

No. Last upgrade was when they went subscription and my computer could not use the old version (processor was too new). So I stopped using it.

uurgh. there should be some sort of cumulative value accumulated :-)

I pay for a Mma license, but that is because I use it ALL the time

10:15 PM
that is fair.

It's a home license. I think I looked and the Academic pricing was not too much better.

it is a reality of software, unfortunately. i never thought of having my kids buy my software (jk).
thankfully i don't need to upgrade my henckles knives every year.
i did send one to a guy (bob) in seattle to regrind my chef's knife because the heel was no longer convex.
so i suppose there are running costs there too

1 hour later…
11:36 PM
tea is my main running cost
