I'm confused on neighboorhoods and limit points.
you don't want neighbors, anyhow, @UserX
@TedShifrin If a neighboorhood can be made arbitrary small, why isn't it a tautology with limit points?
A neighboorhood is a set around a point of another set that's included in the set
@UserX, sorry, but it is getting worse.
23:02
@UserX I wish I could reduce my neighbors sometimes ... :/
I would have thought all your neighbors would have fled to another country, @Hippa.
@TedShifrin They don't need that to flee France :c
well, it's more motivation, @Hippa.
@TedShifrin, Chris wants to know what day the probability test is :P
@TedShifrin They don't know it, but I am the N1 cause of suicide
23:03
Tell him to f*** off, @Kaj.
LOL, sure thing
Uhm uhm uhm
@TedShifrin is that intuitive definition of neighboorhood BS?
@UserX As in Beautifully Stated ?
:D
@Rafflesiaarnoldii That question of the RH is pure stupidity
@UserX: A neighborhood of $x$ is an open set containing $x$. $x$ is a limit point of a set $A$ if every neighborhood of $x$ intersects $A$ in some point other than $x$.
23:05
Same for the answers, and the comments all upvoted three times ... :/
@Hippalectryon Yeah, that was predictable. The SOW thing still needs one downvote before 20K users can vote to delete it. (Hint, hint)
I have already down/upvoted what was to down/up vote there :/
@TedShifrin The hard part is that the upper triangulars are conjugate to any "nilpotent subspace" of maximal dimension, yes. My difficulty was that I saw a potential line of attack and it was the wrong one.
(Closed questions at -3 or less can be deleted without waiting 48 hours)
@Hippalectryon So did I.
Yeah, @Mike, I thought something like that (plus arbitrary field). @Hippa was making a much weaker allegation.
23:06
I know. I don't think I ever alleged that one should need the full power of that paper I linked!
Cuz i'm weak |﹏☉)
I was just confirming the suspicions that the maximal dimension was the hypothesized one.
vraiment, sans doute @Hippa.
@TedShifrin wait a sec. Don't we require neighboorhoods to be relatively small sets?
nope, @UserX, although one usually has that intuition.
23:07
@TedShifrin cries in a corner
computes integrals while crying
don't forget to explode your laptop while crying @Hippa
@TedShifrin Oh good idea !
Someone in this chatroom wants me dead. Can you find out who it is ?
Hint : he eats infants
@Hippa, tu veux bien que je parte :)
In retrospect, my line of attack would have given me the full result (in characteristic 0), so it was definitely working too hard no matter what.
It's me, @Hippa
@TedShifrin Nooon :/
@MikeMiller ┬──┬◡ლ(ಥಿAಥ ლ)
@TedShifrin You're probably (ie for sure) more useful here than I am :-)
23:11
I'm tired of being useful.
Time for dinner ... have fun.
See ya.
Enjoy it, since I can't.
Maths are always fun
23:12
@TedShifrin Try to limit your food to a countable number of ingredients or you won't loose any weight :P
Don't be mean, @Hippa
@MikeMiller I'm not being mean. He was talking about that some hours ago
I wouldn't say that out of the blues :/
Has anyone here seen the movie Interstellar yet? (I am new here)
@TedShifrin say we got a closed set and an arbitrary element of that set. Can a neighboorhood of that element be the same set without boundaries?
@MrSquer Only the soundtrack :P
The soundtrack is good
23:15
Yes, @MrSquer
yea
listening to it now
@MrSquer I prefer the mountains one
@UserX I don't think I understand your question. But in an arbitrary topology, open sets can be very weird. I think you're learning from Wikipedia again and chasing down online links, which isn't going to learn anything in the end :)
@MikeMiller Have you already done your duty on this Thierno M. Sow post?
@DanielFischer Ages ago.
Find something you're interested in and learn it more rigorously from a book or good lecture notes!
@TedShifrin Can we convince you to downvote the above?
@MikeMiller yup link vortex is engulfing me once again... I have read some basic topology from books though.
@Daniel I asked a friend, I'll ping you when he comes through.
@evinda Yes.
There's no way the comment on the answer down below isn't breaking loads of rules, @DanielF
23:19
@MikeMiller Misusing one of Einstein's (alleged) quotes?
It's down to -3, can you kill it now?
Kill it with fire...
@Hippalectryon What I really thought was interesting in the movie is how they wanted to send the human race to a planet near a potentially dangerous black hole :L
@Rafflesiaarnoldii It's at -3.
@MikeMiller I've cast my vote, two to go.
@MrSquer I have no idea what happens in the movie :-)
23:20
@Hippalectryon Oh, the human race is in a dust bowl sort of situation and they need to find a new planet for the human race (which is near a black hole)
Added mine. (I strategically left one delete vote in reserve today. :)
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Well done.
Thierno M. Sow vs the world
@MrSquer No spoilers for those who haven't seen it!
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Who is M.Sow exactly ?
@MikeMiller They all die at the end
@MikeMiller They meet Nyan cat in space
23:24
I've seen it, @Hippa
@MikeMiller I haven't xD
So it needs to have an aggregate of -3, or it needs to have a total of -7 downvotes, to get 20k deleted?
Anyone can answer this question? math.stackexchange.com/questions/1028372/…
@MikeMiller Score of -3.

@bjb568 xkcd oneboxes. Every time you post a cartoon without oneboxing, Jim Davis kills Garfield.
Coincidence should've been "correlation $\neq$ causation" but it's still funny
NOOO GARFIELD
What's oneboxing?
^ there, saved him.
23:30
@Rafflesiaarnoldii I owe you one
Anyone have a graduate degree of math here?
I bet Ted does
Ted is away
Eating
@Victor I guess you can still ask and ping him
He might answer when he comes back
23:31
@TedShifrin - May you take a look of this question? math.stackexchange.com/questions/1028372/…
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Who is that Brown guy exactly ?
Mine seems oneboxed too lol
@UserX Garfield does not approve
@UserX No, it does not have title-text, for one thing. Takes a bit out of xkcd comics.
What Brown guy?
@Hippalectryon - Thank you, is that the Ted you are refer to?
23:33
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Sorry I meant the Sow guy
Ohhh I can onebox by linking directly the comic
@Victor I was referring to @TedShifrin
No idea. I know there was a bunch of crankish posts with that name, and more recently a bunch of clones upvoting each other.
23:34
@Hippalectryon - Good, i pinged him!
If your questions are about probability, I'm afraid Ted might not be the person to ask; he worked in geometry, and I think is learning probability this quarter.
@MikeMiller - Who are specialized in stochastic thing and probability?
I dunno.
I could have asked my close friend G., too bed he died some days ago :PPP
How to avoid getting laid 101
23:40
illuminati
"Especially you mouseover-text readers. You're the best. <3" wat
This one goes for @MikeMiller
And all his graduate peers
Deleted my comment since your updated question addressed my complaint @Victor
My father says he has those dreams... And he is old
Quick question; Does anybody else here program in C++ or use Blender to animate?
Garfield on the starred board e_e
I thought this was a math chat
23:46
I was trying to change the subject :P
Good night people
Good night.
Just something I think you people should know, I am 11 years old.
So no explicit stuff please.
Since everyone is posting images
(well, actually only UserX, it seems)
Is there anyone who would be so kind to see this trifle?

Jeez, just a moment
@Hippalectryon I improved the form of it.
It might still be wrong, in which case I'd like some one to point out the error, even because I should be sleeping but I won't, so I'm dying :v

*someone
@VincenzoOliva What does $a\sim b$ even mean ? $\sim$ is used between functions
HARRO PEEPS.
@DanielFischer
Today at Complex Analysis we saw the Weiertrass factorization theorem.
Pretty darn awesome.
@PedroTamaroff It is.
The problem is that it is a generalization of a situation $p_l \sim \log SA_m$, where $p_l$ is the largest prime factor of the m-th superabundant $SA_m$
@Hippalectryon
@PedroTamaroff Hey there.
23:58
Hadamard factorization is slightly cooler, @Pedro. You should look it up.
@VincenzoOliva Oh I can' t help then
@DanielFischer So we took $E_p(z)=(1-z)e^{z+\cdots+z^p/p}$ and showed that if $|z|\leqslant 1$, $|E_p(z)-1|\leqslant |z|^{p+1}$. And then everything went down swimmingly.
What's with the mod showdown?
